What are the symptoms of skin cancer. If a person suffer from the skin cancer. How can he will be safe from the skin cancer and what is the limit of the skin cancer.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Skin cancers present as ulceration or growth over skin, pigmentation or mole which starts increasing suddenly, lymph node enlargement or swelling etc. Since skin is external organ most problems are identified easily unless ignored. One of the risk factors is ultraviolet radiation exposure, one should avoid too much exposure and use sunscreen. Black skin people are naturally protected due to pigment melanin in our skin. Limit use of chemicals over skin directly and any ulceration or infection should be promptly treated.

My left breast lump is become larger during this period. Am i suspect the left breast lump cancer. I am afraid to a medical examine. Please give me a clarification.

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology
Oncologist,
Hi, it is normal for benign breast lumps to enlarge rapidly during pregnancy. They usually don't turn into cancer. They enlarge secondary to the hormonal changes durimg that time and may regress back later. But if you still have a large persistent lump, please do consult a surgeon in person as a clinical examination will reveal a lot more. And if needed you can get it removed. Most importantly, your doubt regardin cancer will be clarified. Hope his helps. Take care.

High serum ferritin and ldh indicates active disease, but single value can not be used to predict response. We need serial values to know if disease is improving by treatment. Meanwhile please continue chemotherapy as advised.

I am suffering from breast pain, as I consulted to our neighbouring doctors they said that, it is an hormonal variation & hence the pain occurs. But the pain is not stopped, what should I do further now?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
As you are only 16 years old, there is no chance that you r suffering from any major disease. It is common among your age group and is caused by hormonal changes. It will go after some time. In the mean time you should take pain killers. You will not need to show it to anyone for the same.

What are the symptoms of cancer? How we know that in our body at any part there are chances of cancer?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, cancer is caused by abnormal uncontrolled proliferation of cells which may lead to symptoms like palpable lump, ulceration, abnormal bleeding from Anywhere, prolonged fever, weakness, weight loss, change in voice, constipation or diarrhoea, difficulty in swallowing, change in size of preexisting mole etc. We must examine ourselves every month and go for annual health screening check up to diagnose it early. There no specific test to suggest if anyone is likely to suffer from cancer in future, as yet.

Dear , if your diagnosis is correct then given treatment is correct. However try to think back to see what was the cause of prostatitis. You see prostatitis is a difficult infection to get rid of. Usually it may be residual infection of uti most commonly urethritis. Dr. Kiran mehta.

It is not necessary for you to have cancer if your relative has it and whenever there is local involvement than it is stage 1 and if there is local lymphadenopathy than we can call it as stage 2 and if it has spread to other parts of the body we can call it as stage 3.

I had noticed blood traces at the beginning urination about one month back. I carried out a blood urine examination it said PSA as 7.69, Further scanning showed prostate is of normal size. I took ciplox 500 for a month and retestedt PSA and the result showed 7.67. The doctor said that a biopsy is needed. Since I am 74 years old, I don't intend to go for biopsy. If I leave it as is, will there be any complication later? Is there any medication available for high PSA?

Yes, go in for the biopsy. If a pathological specimen confirms the benign nature of the growth then you should not be worried. Medications usually help and if the psa is high even after surgery you may have to go in for a whole body scan. There may be other foci in the system that may be elevating the psa and this is called as false positive. I hope this helps.
