Pregnancy is the most important and happiest time of a woman’s life. Yet, there may be many conditions where this time can be marred with complications which may even lead to the possible termination of the pregnancy. A situation like an ectopic pregnancy can turn out to be a fatal situation where termination of the pregnancy is the only way out. So let us find out more about this kind of pregnancy.
Definition: By definition, an ectopic pregnancy is one where the fertilised egg does not implant itself in the main uterine cavity. This can lead to several complications and symptoms. This implantation may get stuck in the fallopian tubes from where the fertilised egg is supposed to travel into the uterine cavity or the womb where it attaches itself to the lining of the uterus. This kind of pregnancy is also known as a tubal pregnancy.
Symptoms: Initially, there may not be any signs and symptoms of this kind of pregnancy. A missed period and tenderness, as well as some amount of nausea, will be normal symptoms that one feels in any case, during any other kind of pregnancy as well. These symptoms can be reported to a doctor and one can even go through a pregnancy test, which will show a positive result in case the symptoms are due to pregnancy. Yet, this kind of pregnancy cannot progress as a normal pregnancy under any circumstances. The main symptoms will start to show up in the form of aches and pains in the abdomen region as well as light vaginal bleeding, which should be reported to a doctor on an immediate and urgent basis. Changes in the bowel movements and pain in the shoulder due to blood leakage from the fallopian tubes are also some symptoms of this kind of pregnancy.
Risk factors: When there is an infection that stops the travel of the egg all the way through the fallopian as well as inflammation and other fertility issues, then the lady is susceptible to this kind of pregnancy. The choice of contraceptive can also sometimes lead to this kind of pregnancy as an IUD device may lead to the blockage of the fertilised egg as well.
Treatment: Usually, early detection and treatment of this kind of pregnancy can help in guaranteeing that the future pregnancies will be safe and normal. To begin with, the doctor will carry out various tests and an ultrasound to find out whether or not it an ectopic pregnancy. If the egg is found outside the uterus, it cannot develop in a normal manner. Usually, a small laparoscopic procedure is carried out in order to terminate the pregnancy and remove the egg which is stuck, even as your HCG level is monitored. In some cases, if damage to the tube is widespread, it may also have to be removed.

Atherosclerosis is a disease in which plaque builds up inside your arteries. Plaque is a sticky substance made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood. Over time, plaque hardens and narrows your arteries. That limits the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your body.
Atherosclerosis can lead to serious problems, including:
- Coronary artery disease. These arteries supply blood to your heart. When they are blocked, you can suffer angina or a heart attack.
- Carotid artery disease. These arteries supply blood to your brain. When they are blocked you can suffer a stroke.
- Peripheral arterial disease. These arteries are in your arms, legs and pelvis. When they are blocked, you can suffer from numbness, pain and sometimes infections.
Atherosclerosis usually doesn't cause symptoms until it severely narrows or totally blocks an artery. Many people don't know they have it until they have a medical emergency.
A physical exam, imaging, and other diagnostic tests can tell if you have it. Medicines can slow the progress of plaque buildup. Your doctor may also recommend procedures such as angioplasty to open the arteries, or surgery on the coronary or carotid arteries. Lifestyle changes can also help. These include following a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, and managing stress
Sir, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries 3 years ago. I have done all the hormone tests and all the reports turned out to be normal. My gynaecologist confirmed that I don't have pcos but only polycystic ovaries. I have consulted 7-8 gynaecologists so far and everyone of them prescribed me with hormonal medicines which were unable to cure my problem. Now coming to my problem, I don't skip periods rather my bleeding doesn't stop until I take the hormonal medicines every month. Can my condition be treated with homeopathy because I desperately want to discontinue the hormonal therapy because of its severe side effects. If there is any homeopathic remedy for continuous bleeding with polycystic ovaries kindly do suggest.
My father is suffering from herpes. please can someone tell why this happens? What could be d actual cause of this disease to occur? & what r d precautions to be taken.
Breastfeeding is best for the baby and its benefits extend well beyond the paradigm of basic nutrition. Breast milk contains all the vital vitamins and nutrients, which a baby needs in the first six months of life. It is fully loaded with disease fighting substances, which protect baby from illness. Many international paediatric organisation recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and recent research reports have proven that breastfeeding is good for both mother and the baby.
Breastfeeding protects the baby from a long list of illnesses, such as ear infections, lower respiratory illnesses, stomach disorder and meningitis and are less severe when they do happen. Breast milk adapts as the baby grows to meet the changing needs. Breastfeeding builds a strong emotional bond between the mother and the baby and it has long term benefits lasting right into adulthood.
The first milk of the mother contains high concentrations of secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA), which guards against invading germs by forming a protective layer on the mucous membranes in baby's intestines, nose, and throat. Mother's body responds to pathogens (virus and bacteria) that are in her body and makes secretory IgA, which is specific to those pathogens, creating protection for the baby based on to whatever mother is exposed.
The antibodies in breast milk gives a baby's immune system a boost and also helps children avoid type 1 and type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and inflammatory bowel disease that strike later in life. Babies who were not breastfed run the risk of developing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Breastfeeding boosts child's intelligence. Surveys have shown that premature infants with extremely low birth weight who receive breast milk shortly after birth improved their scores of mental development at eighteen months when compared with premature infants who weren't given breast milk. The emotional bonding happening during breastfeeding contributes to some of the brainpower benefits. Breastfeeding lowers the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It reduces a child's risk of becoming obese as a teen or adult as the breast milk contains less insulin, which stimulates creation of fat. The high content of leptin in the milk regulates appetite and fat.
Breastfeeding triggers the release of the hormone oxytocin that promotes relaxation and nurturing. Oxytocin released while nursing also helps your uterus contract after birth, resulting in less postpartum bleeding. It reduces stress level and the risk of postpartum depression. Research studies show that breastfeeding results in changes in breast tissue and lactation reduces the production of oestrogen, which reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. It also reduces the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
