You need better counselling..do meditation daily for atleast 30 minutes..practice some kind of breathing excercises..indulge yourself in some outdoor games..when theres a urge of smoking talk to people you love or listen to your fav so g that time.. It cant be stopped on of a sudden..start stopping it slowly like decreasing the smoking day by day..or smoking alternate day..and stop it entirely one day..as sudden stoppage may lead to withtdrawl symptoms if you are smoking since long time..

Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately. Try some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing. Indulge in hobbies. Spend time with people close to you.

I am from a decent family with good culture. I am in relation with a girl of 17 years from past 3 years. She used to cheat me and flirt with guys at the starting of relationship. I changed her and explained that it is not good. The problem is that whenever I see her with any guy talking or texting. I get the same feeling that she has started her old habit of flirting. I am so passive. I can't bear it. From this I can't concentrate on studies! feeling lonely always. She just want to enjoy her life with other guys more. She just escapes giving reasons that her mom is permitting and she is forcing to go with others. So please help me how to control myself and being sad and unsatisfying always. I just don't wanna be passive!

It is good that she is social with other boys but not that she is flirting with them. If you think she has genuinely changed then you must learn to trust her. You see you cannot forever keep a tab on your girl and live a life of suspicion and insecurity. On the other hand there is a saying that a ‘leopard cannot change its spots’. If you want this girl, you must accept her the way she is, otherwise give her up. If you have to control and keep an eye on her, life can become very miserable, like it has already become for you. It may be in her culture or her mother’s culture to be playful and mix around freely but quite innocently. If you think that that could be risky behavior and that some boys will mistake her for a fast girl, then you could caution her and if she does not heed your advice, then she is going to be difficult to reason with. If you are brave or free enough why don’t you talk to her mother and find out the scenario and her take on the matter. She may give you an explanation that you or I may not understand or know about! The other problem is that there may be insecurities in you that may be the problem and as soon as you work that out, it could be a different scene altogether. Whatever happens you must be able to trust the girl; and if that is not there because of her or you, the relationship is not meant to be, period.

What to do to boost my memory. Whn m forgetting every thng that I m tryng to study, whn my brain is not available to capture any word or any thng elz!?

You need to look at what is disturbing you emotionally. Natural concentration is when the mind can hold a thought for a long time, when thoughts are under our own control. Without concentration the mind goes here, there and everywhere, jumping like a monkey from branch to branch, idea to idea. When there is a natural concentration, we can control our mind and there is peace. This one-pointed concentration on a thought, holding it for as long as we like, gradually collects strength in the mind and in the self. A strong mind is a mind that is peaceful, stable, satisfied and can remain in the deeper meaning of a thought. There is no waste caused by over-thinking, or the high speed of thought: These are the two greatest diseases of the mind these days, which is why there is so much stress and mental breakdown. Stress can foil concentration and learning ability. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Concentration precedes memory. If you are under stress your concentration will go for a toss, then naturally memory will be totally foiled. So meet with a counselor to take care of the stress and your memory will happily return. You can follow these simple rules in the meantime: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid all junk food.

My wife faces too much stress. She is telling she is hearing a sound some one speaking about her. She always telling that my neighbor house people is talking like that. She feels insecure feeling. We already went to psychologist and he given some tables to reduce stress after initial counseling. Doctor told me that some liquid in brain produced more. Nearly 4 weeks medicine she took, first two weeks she was in her sisters house, she feels better there, before one week we came to our house. Here also for first 5 - 6 days she was quit. But for last 2-3 days, she is telling the same. What I do now sir. I Know that no such sound is hearing by me. I want to bring out my wife from this situation. Please help me.

It sounds like there is more to this than has been identified so far. Please seek a second opinion from another psychiatrist and she must go for counseling too along with the medication. It is the combination of these two therapies that she can get the best results. She will need to take her parents along to identify any childhood influences and for genetic factors too. She will need a lot of your support and careful monitoring to really help her through this.

Hoarseness Of Voice - How Can It Be Treated?

Hoarseness in the simplest sense means, 'hoarse voice'. It may be defined as an abnormal voice change. It is experienced in the form of strained, rough, thick, harsh and grating voice. Variations can be felt even in the loudness and pitch of the voice.

Hoarseness is a temporary infection associated with the larynx, which is also known as the voice box in animals as well as humans. Vocal cords are present inside the voice box. Depending on the vibration of the vocal cord, different sounds are produced.

What are the general causes of hoarseness?

Hoarseness may be caused by common cold, viral infection, cough, irritation due to screaming, smoking, allergy, thyroid problem, acute laryngitis and benign tumor. In adults, the stomach asset comes up to the throat causing hoarseness. Heartburn can also be one of the causes.

When hoarseness arises due to common cold and cough, it will last for 2 to 3 days and will subside using cough suppressant and home remedies like salt water gargling, drinking hot milk with turmeric and pepper powder. As cough or cold suppress, hoarseness will also reduce.

When to see an Otolaryngologist (ENT specialist)?

ENT stands for ear, nose, throat. Serious infections in these areas are treated by an otolaryngologist. It is very essential to consult this specialist if hoarseness lasts for more than 2 to 3 weeks; pain in ENT is not due to cold or flu, coughing up blood, lump in the neck.

Evaluation

The medical specialist starts his diagnosis by physically examining the vocal cord. Flexible light weight fiber optic tube scope is also used to visually examine the larynx area. Videotaping, acoustic analysis is also done to study voice irregularities, airflow to guide treatment.

How can hoarseness be treated?

The mode of treatments depends on underlying the cause of the problem. The patient may be advised:

  1. In most cases, hoarseness can be treated just by resting your throat or modifying the use of your voice.
  2. To avoid smoking or passive smoking
  3. Referred to a speech therapist to improve sound of voice.
  4. In case of benign tumor the nodule or polyp is removed by surgery.

How can you prevent hoarseness?

We've all heard the phrase, 'prevention is better than cure'. Alas, it is. Preventing hoarse voice and throat is a much better option than treating it. Here are some tips on how to prevent hoarseness:

  • Avoid smoking
  • Avoid overconsumption of caffeine and alcohol.
  • Consume plenty of water
  • Avoid eating spicy food.
  • Avoid speaking loudly for long intervals of time.

Your son must be pretty old enough to be responsible about his own studies. Any amount of worrying will not help him. He has to realize and work on his issues. So let him be and just tell him to be committed to his studies. Even if he fails it may be for his own good. You will certainly sleep well if you seriously follow this advice. Now about your sleep: The lack of sleep, i.e. sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques at night will be tremendously useful. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.
