How can arteriosclerosis be diagnosed?
Is there any link between arteriosclerosis and cholesterol levels?
Dear lybrate-user Arteriosclerosis is a disease of the blood vessel walls; typically when they get brazed or hardened. Cholesterol is wrongly blamed as being a culprit of depositions causing blockages. Cholesterol gets deposited only in the presence of toxic free radicals in the blood. And this condition is also called Atherosclerosis. You can diagnose blood vessel condition with a Carotid Dopplar.

My age is 42. I have a bp 90 and 140 from last five years. Some doctor says it is ok and some says it is on the higher side. I took many precautions to make it down as I walk 30-40 min daily. I drink maximum fluids. I avoid salt. But still it remains the same. Is it harmful. Pls suggest how I can take it down if it is high. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, ideally bp should be systolic 120 to 130 (when heart is contracting), diastolic 60 to 80 mm hg, (when heart is relaxing. At your age it good to have bp as 130 / 80.131 to 139 and 81 to 89 is considered as prehypertension. So you will have to see that it is closer to 130 / 80 mm hg. One of the most important aspect is to reduce salt intake to just about 3 g a day. Avoid processed foods, deep fried foods and high fat foods.

Hello, I am giving some health tips for Migraine headache •1.You can turn off light for some time •2.Apply hot or cold compresses to your head or neck. •Ice packs have a numbing effect, which may dull the sensation of pain. •Hot packs and heating pads can relax tense muscles. •3.Warm showers or baths may have a similar effect. •4.You can take Tea or coffee( but not excess) 5.Sleep well Here are some tips to encourage sound sleep. Establish regular sleep hours. •Minimize distractions. •Your eating habits can influence your migraines. •Be consistent. Eat at about the same time every day. Don't skip meals. Fasting increases the risk of migraines Avoid foods that trigger migraines Kindly tell me your BP reading so that I can guide you further kindly consult Physician for further management

It seems these are on a higher side. While some have advised medications, I do not want to be under continued medication but willing to do some lifestyle changes and exercise regime. Kindly advise.

Dear lybrate user, crt or cardiac synchronisation therapy is useful for patients who fulfill certain criteria for potential benefit in case of end stage heart disease. It is beneficial for not only for increasing lifetime but also for improving quality of life. The assessment for benefiting a patient who is a potential candidate for crt is done on a case to case basis and as such without examining the patient and his previous records it is very difficult to ascertain anything.

I do not want to interfere in treatment but incidence of drug resistant TB is quite common in our country. I treat my patients by giving AKT4 for 2 months after doing Liver function tests (repeat after a month) AKT3 for 6 more months. I explain them to take liver friendly diet like it is given for Jaundice , lots of carbs + proteins like toned milk & milk products ,eggs but No heavy Non veg or other heavy foods. Total rest. No need to Isolate if it is Not an open case. Keep the person busy by teaching some crafts ,like knitting & embroidery for women but No exposure to kitchen heat/ sun. This is general rule for all , total cost comes to less than 1000/- yes one thousand only including tests. Why should a worker of my area travel to DOTS center? You have done the right thing for getting investigated and following the treatment so far. Talk to your doctors about your problem and do let us know.Lymph nodes in abdominal TB have also vanished after a month in one of our cases. In your case ,there is minimal fluid which does not need aspiration and removal,it will clear away and so will the other lymph nodes. After complete course of treatment for TB or during treatment ,some white shadows are seen ,may be these are healed patches but we have to go by totality 1) ESR coming down 2) no fever 3) appetite better 4) weight gain 5) improvement in general condition.
