How To Prepare Yourself For A Surgery?

How To Prepare Yourself For A Surgery?

The thought of undergoing a major surgery worries most people as they stress about the possible surgical complications, outcomes of the procedure or just get scared with the idea of getting an incision. But, following a few simple steps before the surgery may enable you to not only lessen your fears but also accelerate the recovery process.

Here are some of the most effective tips to prepare yourself in a way that ensures a stress-free surgical procedure.

1. Acquire knowledge about the surgery beforehand

Keep yourself thoroughly informed about the surgical procedures you will undergo. Ask your surgeon about the time required for complete recovery, your stay at the hospital, hygiene standards of the hospital etc. Also, talk about the surgical complications that you may experience and the measures to be taken from your side to deal with them.

2. Inform the doctor about your prevalent health issues
Talk to your doctor if you are suffering from any medical conditions currently like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, arthritis etc. Also inform him if you are under any kind of medications or allergic to any particular drug.

3. Enquire about the types of anaesthesia available
Knowing about your anaesthesia choices always help you prepare better for an operation. While some surgery requires specific types of anaesthesia for other you can decide whether you want a local, regional or general anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia is used for affecting a small area while the regional one is used for numbing a larger part and general, your entire body.

4. Be prepared to deal with the post-surgery pain
You might experience post-surgery pain depending on the type of procedure followed. Ask your doctor for suggestions on the type of medicines you should do to curb this pain. Generally, most doctors recommend drugs, hot or cold therapy, massage etc.

5. Look for a caregiver in advance
You will require some support and care after the surgery while you recover. Seek the help of your family and friends in this regard and ensure that someone can stay with you for at least a day after you return from the hospital.

6. Follow the pre and post surgery instructions given by the doctor
Follow all the instructions given by the doctor regarding the kind of diet to be followed, restriction from consuming certain things like alcohol or any other lifestyle changes required to keep you healthy before and after the surgery.

Use of Lasers & Energy Based Devices (EBDs) in Dermatology!

MBBS, MD - Dermatology, venereology & Leprology, Fellowship in Cosmetology (MUHS)

Use of Lasers & Energy Based Devices (EBDs) in Dermatology!

The ability to do work is defined as Energy. It is categorized into different types. Light energy is considered as one of the most important forms of energy. As a matter of fact, life on earth evolved because of Sunlight (The light radiations reaching the surface of the earth are adequate to sustain life; which makes other planets devoid of life). Without sunlight, we cannot perform our routine activities. The use of light in the field of Dermatology has been an old concept, but earlier it was being used in limited indications. After a thorough research, it has been highlighted that Light energy, if used adequately can give unmatchable results in the field of Dermatology.

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) is one of the newer concepts in the field of Dermatology. Earlier it was termed as MASER (Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Amplification of Energy). Although the first Medical laser was discovered in 1961, it was approved for the use 2 decades later. Albert Einstein and many great scientists have contributed immensely for its inception. In the beginning, lasers were used exclusively in the industries. Advancement and curiosity in the scientific field led to its current scenario.

Laser in Industries and Medical field differ in their ionising properties. Industrial lasers are ionizing while the medical lasers are non ionizing. This makes them very safe to use (in human beings) and easy to handle (depending upon the expertise of the personnel). Another advantage associated with Lasers is their mode of action. They only act on the target tissue without affecting the surroundings. (Oral medicines affect the whole body. Topical medicines are unable to penetrate in most of the cases). An added advantage is the ‘Down Time’. With most of the lasers, there is no down time. Once the procedure is done, one can resume routine work. These are widely accepted in major cities as they are called as lunch time procedures (as the procedures do not require more than an hour; in most of the cases).

Unwanted hairs, Birth marks, Tattoos, Scars, keloids, Facial rejuvenation, Hair growth on scalp, Face lifts, Skin pigmentation, Skin conditions (Eczema, Psoriasis) and many more can be easily treated with Lasers.

Let us enter a new world of Dermatology where treatment options are designed to improve your general health. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.

1. Try to scrub the area daily and put vitamin e oil 2. You can also apply some castor oil to the stretch marks and gently massage the area in circular motions for 5 to 10 minutes 3. Use aloe vera gel on the area once a day 4. Use rich cocoa butter before going.

If you and your partner are planning to conceive, you should start taking folic acid before you get pregnant. Folic acid helps to provide the best health outcomes for your baby when it is growing. Taking folic acid daily before and during pregnancy also prevents the occurrence of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, in your baby. You? re most likely to get pregnant if you have sex within a day or so of ovulation (releasing an egg from the ovary). This is usually about 14 days after the first day of your last period. An egg lives for about 12-24 hours after it? s released. For pregnancy to happen, the egg must be fertilised by a sperm within this time. If you want to get pregnant, having sex every couple of days will mean there? s always sperm waiting in the fallopian tubes to meet the egg when it? s released. Any queries consult privately.

Hi doctor when i was trying to conceive. 1 week before getting periods if vagina gets dry. Do I have chances of getti...
If your periods are regular and normal then expect it to be at the right time. The dryness of the vagina does not affect the periods. It is advisable to visit a gynecologist for a general check up. Please discuss about your plans to concieve and let the doctor examine you and do some tests as a preventive measure. Counselling is very important (for both the couple) so that all the health parameters are looked into and to ensure safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery. Both of you should adapt a healthy lifestyle. You can also use Homeopathy if there is any problem. You can contact me for any further clarification.

Loving Your Kids The Right Way

MDS, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), BDS

Loving Your Kids The Right Way

Loving our children in a real way:

  • Loving my daughter/son comes so easily when
  • She/he wins a competition,
  • Gets high marks,
  • Listens to me,
  • Keeps her room clean,
  • Finishes her food,
  • Pays attention while studying,
  • Sleeps on time,
  • Never raises her voice and
  • Practices dance/singing/drawing without me reminding her.

That's the easy way to love.

However when I look back at my childhood I realize that the moments I really wanted love badly were when

  • I scored less marks,
  • Failed in a competition,
  • Couldn't fall asleep,
  • Didn't feel like studying,
  • Wanted to laze around,
  • Didn't finish the tiffin,
  • Didn't complete homework,
  • Forgot an important assignment,
  • Fought with a friend,
  • Had a heartbreak,
  • Committed a mistake,
  • Felt guilty,
  • Felt lonely.

These were the moments when I needed my parents the most, I needed their assurance that it is okay to be human, to fall, to get hurt and what I wanted to listen in those moments was" I know it hurts, but i'm here with you. Maybe we can't do anything about what happened, but i'm here with you. And I love you for what you are, always"

This is real and unconditional way to love!
Yes I wanted to hear" I love you" loud and clear. It was the only thing that could heal my heart. Love!

It's the moments when we lose control of ourselves that we want someone to hold us, isn't it? you don't need to be perfect. Just be real!

Do you chose love the easy way or the real, unconditional way?

Today no matter what your child does, choose love and see how it heals you as a parent.
