I am not able to sleep for last eight months due to stress of my child education. He is not studying and I am worried of his future. What should I do for sound sleep.

I am not able to sleep for last eight months due to stress of my child education. He is not studying and I am worried...
Your son must be pretty old enough to be responsible about his own studies. Any amount of worrying will not help him. He has to realize and work on his issues. So let him be and just tell him to be committed to his studies. Even if he fails it may be for his own good. You will certainly sleep well if you seriously follow this advice. Now about your sleep: The lack of sleep, i.e. sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques at night will be tremendously useful. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

I want to leave someone for my family. What should I do for that I am getting how can I do that I am getting depress ...
Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Loosing someone dear and near causes grief. Grief leads to disappointment. Grief related disappointment manifests symptoms as in the case of depression. But disappointment symptoms are far shorter in duration than depression. These symptoms will vanish in some days or weeks. Don’t worry. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, hobbies etc could help you divert your attention. I suggest cognitive therapy. Take care.

Hello, Practicing yoga with homoeopathic medication helps you in releasing the stress from your body. Brisk walk in a park will help you inhale more fresh air and oxygen for good functioning of the cells and tissues of the body. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Ignatia 200/ one dose daily and Kali Phos. 6x/ once at night. Yogasana: Practice the following poses if you don’t have any medical condition or pregnancy or else take an advice from your concern doctor and then only perform these. 1. Balasana: Sit on your heels with your big toes touching and hands resting on your thighs. Lower your belly and chest to rest between your knees, bringing your forehead to the floor. Relax your arms back beside your shins, palms facing up. Soften your breath by taking 5 to 10 long, deep inhalations and exhalations. 2. Savasana: lie back, letting your body sink into and open around the support. End in a supported pose on your back with a folded blanket under the length of the spine to help arch the upper and middle back, and lengthen the lower back. Move your arms a comfortable distance away from your body and anything else around you. Turn your palms to face up. Separate your legs a natural distance apart. Relax your feet and let them roll open. Finally, do a mental scan from head to toe: Where are you holding tension. Release it from every part of your body—including your heart and head.

Dear lybrate-user. Welcome to lybrate. I will advise you not to reduce your sleep. You must sleep at least 6 hours in a day and please maintain it. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user. I can understand. PANIC ATTACK a sudden overwhelming feeling of acute and disabling anxiety. Panic disorder is different from the normal fear and anxiety reactions to stressful events. Panic disorder is a serious condition that strikes without reason or warning. Symptoms of panic disorder include sudden attacks of fear and nervousness, as well as physical symptoms such as sweating and a racing heart. Panic attack always happens due to an underlying anxiety disorder. So you need to treat anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is treated with the help of counseling and psychotherapy. You should consult a psychologist. Take care.

Mental Illness - Treatment Options For It!

Mental illnesses refer to an extended range of health disorders related to the mental condition of an individual which affect the health, mood and behavior of that person. Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addictive behaviors, schizophrenia, etc. are the different types of mental illnesses.

Mental illnesses can create a lot of trouble in the normal functioning of the day-to-day activities of a person's life. Here are some of the common treatment options available for relieving mental illnesses.

  1. Medications:  Antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, mood-stabilizing medications, antipsychotic medications are some general types of psychiatric medications prescribed by the doctor, which can be consumed depending on the condition one is going through. Although these medications do not cure the person completely, it helps in improving the condition.
  2. Psychotherapy: This type of therapy involves talking to a mental health provider about your condition and other related issues. In other words, it is also called talk therapy. It helps a person to cope up with his/her stress. The duration of such a treatment varies. It may either take a few months or even longer, if required. This therapy can be carried out in a group, with family members or even face to face with the therapist.
  3. Brain-stimulation treatments: When the medications and psychotherapies fail to work in treating mental illness, this treatment is applied. It involves procedures such as electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation and vagus nerve stimulation.
  4. Hospital and residential treatment programs: In extreme cases of mental illness when a person becomes a threat to himself/herself, it is recommended that he/she be hospitalized to a psychiatric hospital.
  5. Substance abuse treatments: Substance abuse and mental illness go hand in hand. It worsens the condition of mental illness in an individual, if he/she cannot restrict the consumption of alcohol or drugs. In such circumstances, an individual needs to talk to the doctor regarding the treatment options for stopping substance abuse.
