Whenever I think about the past I feel very angry and frustrated. And whenever I carry my positive thoughts I feel very excited and energetic... But it last only for few hours ... Then I start think about something else which gives me the negative thoughts and will become very angry

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
If you indulge in the past, you will definitely get angry because there will always be things that could have been done differently and that could have produced better results. So there will be regrets. Now we cannot turn back the clock back nor change the past. So that exercise is impossible and futile. But you can learn from them to better improve the present and future. By locking yourself in the past, you become a prisoner of it. The only way to look is, forward. And it looks like you are doing well with that. Learn to stay with the positive and strengthen that position. Because it is still a weak state in you, it will be quite easy to revert back to history and feel the regrets. It is a conscious effort and regular practice that will eventually win this battle. Perhaps there are some things that need to be dealt with about your past. Talk to a counselor and deal with them to completely eradicate it from your mind. Remember it is not possible to remove the memory but it is possible to purge the past memories of its negative energy or force. Keep me posted of your success.

Dear lybrate-user, masturbation is a normal physiological sign of you growing up. When your testosterone level is high when you mature to manhood, you feel the urge to masturbate. Though biologically mature at 16-18 years sociologically or economically you are mature to get married. So accept that masturbation proves that you are a man and it is a normal outlet before marriage. But you are suffering from depression which needs antidepressant treatment. Both rexipra and prothiaden are good antidepressant tablets. You can take them during examination also. It will give you mor confidence to give your best. Restart both tablets and go back to a psychiatrist - not neurologist. Depending on the improvement, he may increase the dose.

You can take her to a psychiatrist on the pretext of medical illness or ask her to accompany you for your illness (pseudo). But brief the psychiatrist before, they will be able to assess her without her knowing and suggest how to treat. All the best.

How To Deal With Depression?

How To Deal With Depression?

Depression is a very common phenomenon in contemporary times. It mostly affects those in their teenage and even those who are in their early thirties. Depression can be caused due to many reasons and must be treated quickly to prevent it from turning into a chronic illness with other side effects. Common symptoms of depression include less socialising, less talking with people and sitting at home or locked behind doors for long duration. At times, one even reduces the intake of food and remains in an agitated mood for a long period of time. When it becomes severe cases, medicines need to be administered to the patients to bring them out of their depression.

The interesting part of this condition is that the patient sometimes knows that he/she is suffering from depression and should try to get out of it.

Homeopathy for Depression and Anxiety

Homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity by using holistic approach. This is the only way through which a state of complete health can be regained by removing all the sign and symptoms from which the patient is suffering. The aim of homeopathy is not only to treat depression and anxiety but to address its underlying cause and individual susceptibility. As far as therapeutic medication is concerned, several medicines are available for depression treatment that can be selected on the basis of cause, condition, sensation and modalities of the complaints. For individualized remedy selection and treatment, the patient should consult a qualified homeopathic doctor in person. Some of the commonly indicated homeopathic medicines are listed here:

  1. Aurum Metallicum- This medicine helps recover from deep-seated depression. The patient requiring this medicine is likely to have lost interest in life. There is a sense of loathing for life, lack of joy, loss of smile, loss of hope. He may have seen a very hectic and even successful career; and due to some triggers, there would be a U-turn and the person falls into deep valley of depression.

  2. Manganese- This metal medicine has ample of gloominess, depression and sadness.

Here are some of the tips and tricks of coping with depression:

  1. Overcome your thoughts with positivity: When in depression, one feels lethargic, is overcome by negative thoughts and cannot focus on doing anything. This needs to be challenged and battled with. During this time, you need to repeatedly convince yourself that there will good and bad times and there is always a way to deal with it. The bad phase would disappear just as it had come, and there is no point sulking on it now. Don’t let the negativity lead to more depression, as a healthy person still lives inside you.

  2. Get fresh air daily: Going out for a walk or even sitting in the balcony to get some fresh air and morning sunlight can do wonders when you are suffering from depression. Light slowly eats away the darkness in you and helps you see the positive side of things.

  3. Eat healthy food: There is a tendency to either give up on food or to eat a lot of junk food like pizza, chocolate and ice cream during this phase. This must be avoided. What is seen as depression eating is actually binge eating and can have serious consequences on your health and weight. Instead, healthy and regular meals should be eaten and meals should not be skipped at all.

  4. Stay connected: You must stay connected with people, even if it means bringing a forced smile on your face. This can do wonders in helping you cope with your depression. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Homeopath.

Yes there is no harm in taking ashwagandha and brahmi. You should start meditation and relaxation exercises daily in the morning to avoid anxiety. Eat satwik food and avoid spicy oily and fried food items. Music therapy is also a good option.

Dear , you have not mentioned anything about any peculiar mental conditions your sister may have. If there is no mental health problems like anxiety depression, the problem can be cured through anger management therapy. I think one or two online counseling sessions should clear her problem. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

Hi Doctors, I am 36 yrs old. I am addicted to smoking for almost 15 years now and smoke 15-18 cigarettes daily. Need your help and consultation to get rid of smoking entirely forever. Can it be possible? Kindly also let me know about the treatment, how long will be the expected treatment duration and cost. Kindly let me know in case any further information is needed. Thanks! Deb.

I do not know where you live. So you will need to check with the local rehabilitation facilities offered there. Yes, of course you can give up smoking at any time. The desire to want to give it up is the first positive point in your favor. You are smoking too much anyway for your own good. Stopping is urgent and important. To break the habit you need to quit it for 21 days as the first phase ? this is the most difficult phase. You must continue abstinence for another 7 weeks to make it relatively easy. After 3 years of total abstinence you can be somewhat safe. Yes, there is medication to ease quitting smoking. Please consult a doctor for the same. You have been smoking for a long time now but you can reverse almost all the damage from it by quitting now. Just keep at it till you succeed. Quitting smoking is very difficult but not impossible due to the following reasons: smoking has certain conditions for the urge to be stimulated. These can vary throughout the day. You need to de-condition around the habit. There is a physical and psychological craving that has to be countered. There are some medicines that ease the craving, for which you will need to consult a doctor. Some measures you can take are: avoid people, activities, and places where the need to smoke is highest. There is also the time of day when the urge is greater; occupy yourself with planned, alternative, and interesting activities. During all these times do deep breathing exercises. Buy some chewing gum or nicotine gum or nicotine patches to tide over the urge. Replace the conditions or associations with new behaviors to affect the drive. Frequent ?no smoking zones? when in need. Tell the whole world that you have given up smoking, and ask for support from all of them. Your oral need may increase so ?pacify? it by indulging in eating, drinking health beverages, sucking on hard candy etc. Persevere in very difficult moments by sticking to your resolution because the impulse will disappear pretty fast. Get the support of an addiction counselor to process the resolution. You may never need institutional care but get the support of a Smokers Anonymous group.

How can I come out of depression.
Please help me come out of it.
Please reply fast.
Dear you should follow my these instructions seriously to make life free of depression -. * on getting up every morning, just stand in front of mirror and say you are happy and you can do anything. By saying these words, you get positive energy about yourself and that makes you feel better. * in morning and evening, take a little time for meditation. You just have to sit in a peaceful place, close your eyes and take long breaths in and out. While breathing just concentrate on breathing only and do it for atleast 10-15 minutes daily. * when ever anything make you feel stressed, do not try to hide it. Just go to your parents or the nearest person you trust most and talk to him/her about the problem and discuss it very clearly. It will solve the problem and make you feel that you are not alone in the world. *join the charity functions and help those persons which are so poor and can not afford their meal and other daily routine things. Helping other make you feel inspired and boost your confidence level. * go to the temple or any nearest religious place who you believe daily. Going to that place daily give you positive energy and bless your life by the grace of god. Apply these things in your life and I assure you that you feel that your life have changed completelyy and you live your life with full confidence.

I couldn't control my temper since last 3 years. I am 26 years age. I consult with many doctors but no result.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry, MBA (Healthcare)

Hi there ~ you are probably suffering from bipolar disorder with frequent manic episodes. Although some people may have only one episode, bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition that usually involves recurrent episodes. It's usually marked by episodes of mania or hypomania (low-grade highs) -- elevated mood and excessive energy and activity -- and depression, often with long periods of normalcy in between the mood swings. Doctors don't completely understand the causes of bipolar disorder, but they do understand the condition much better than they did 10 years ago. With that understanding has come targeted treatment. Although there is no cure, its symptoms can be managed effectively. Treating bipolar mania if you have bipolar disorder, you may be having an episode of mania if you suffer three or more of these symptoms most of the day -- nearly every day -- for one week or longer: increased activity need less sleep to feel rested and energetic excessively high, overly euphoric mood racing thoughts talking very fast or talking more than usual; speech is pressured, loud, and often difficult to interpret inflated self-esteem or grandiosity -- unrealistic beliefs in one's ability, intelligence, and powers; may be delusional increased reckless behaviors (such as lavish spending sprees, impulsive sexual indiscretions, abuse of alcohol or drugs, bad business decisions, or reckless driving) distractibility if you have four or more episodes of mania or depression in a year, it's known as" rapid cycling. If you are suffering from mania, your doctor may initially treat you with an antipsychotic drug or benzodiazepine, a sedative, to quickly control hyperactivity, sleeplessness, hostility, and irritability. Your doctor will also likely prescribe a mood stabilizer (antimanic drug). Mood stabilizers consist of a variety of drugs that help control mood swings, prevent recurrences, and reduce the risk of suicide. They are usually taken for a long time, sometimes indefinitely, and include lithium and certain anticonvulsant drugs like depakote, lamictal, or tegretol. Very close medical supervision and blood tests may be needed during this approach to rapidly control a manic episode. Hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely da.
