Common Hand Pain - Causes And Treatment

The hand is one of the most commonly used parts of our body and is susceptible to damage, wear and tear as well as injury. Pain in the hand can be attributed to numerous causes, including damage and other conditions that can affect the joints, cartilage, nerves and other parts of the hand. Causes:

De Quervain's tendinitis: This is also known as de Quervain's tendinosis. It causes pain on the thumb side of the wrist. The pain may grow slowly or suddenly. It can also spread to every part of the thumb and up the lower arm. On the off chance that you have de Quervain's tendinitis, you may experience pain while performing the following actions:

  • Clenching The fist
  • Handling on or holding objects
  • Turning the wrist

Treatment for this includes the following:

  • Wearing a prop to rest the thumb and wrist
  • Calming drugs
  • Cortisone infusions

Carpal tunnel disorder: This is common amongst the well-known nerve issues. It can cause pain in the following parts of the hand:

  • Palm and a few fingers
  • Wrist
  • Lower arm

The treatment methods includes the following:

  • Resting the hand and wrist
  • Painkillers
  • Wrist support
  • Steroid infusions
  • Active recuperation
  • Breaks

Fracture: It's a crack or break in a bone that can cause immense pain in the hand. Other than this, the hand may also experience the following:

  • Stiffness
  • Swelling
  • Loss of proper motion and movement

The kind of treatment depends on the kind of fracture. Braces are usually used for small fractures. Sticks, wires, or plates might be used to treat severe fractures. Likewise, surgery may also be recommended to set the broken bone properly.

Arthritis: This is a disease causing joint inflammation and stiffness of the joints. It causes the joints to lose the ligament that permits them to move easily against each other. This tears the ligament, giving rise to crippling pain and swelling.

In the hand, the regions where this regularly happens are as follows:

  • Base of the thumb
  • Center joint of one or more fingers
  • End joint, which is nearest to the fingertip

The treatment depends on the seriousness of the injury and the following may be used:

  • Painkillers
  • Props for the fingers or wrist
  • Heat
  • Non-intrusive treatment

Trigger finger: Also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, this defect causes the fingers or the thumb to bend. It can be difficult, particularly when bowing or fixing the influenced finger or thumb.

Your heel posture is not in right direction on weight bearing. Due to weak calf muscle, flat foot. Don't worry do these steps:- 1. For pain relief use hot water bottle take your foot on bottle and gentle push and move forward backward massage for 5min. 2. Stand on toes of both legs for 10 counts then relaxe do it for 15 times. 3. Ankle stretching by towel 5 times. 4. If arch of your foot soul is reduce then use arch orthotics.

Start with Physiotherapy treatment. Learn exercise for Spine and knee joint. Don't sit on floor. Don't lift heavy things. Apply volini cream before sleeping. Take Calcium; multivitamin and vitamin D 3 for 2 month.

I have pain in shoulder joint. I have got it checked from different doctors and they said it's a frozen shoulder issue. You can get treated by medicines. But I could not recover that pain. Any solution to it? Age is 30.

Doc pls pls help me my dad had a severe pain in right hand nearer to shoulder so after consult our doc we came to know its a single block in heart so we took medicine for that issue for past 4 months. But still he had severe pain in hand in xray doc told us there is a shadowy area in right hand. Our doc he is a radiologist told us its a calcium deficiency so now my dad taking calcium tablets also. He still had the pain. I am really afraid about this. Will it be a any serious disease like cancer? Pls clear my doubt. He is also afraid about this. Pls someone help me.

Its is not cancer. Firstly I request you to consult and take one secound opinion with any orthopaedic. As if you taking medicine for heart related problem pain should not b there now. And as pain is still there take all repoets and consult orthopaedic Dr. as he will tellu the reason. And tell your father stress is not good. Do yoga.

A month ago I had a severe fever that existed for 4 days. The temperature stayed between 102°F - 104°F. No infection was detected by the blood test but I seemed to be a viral fever. Soon after temp came down I had severe pain in my hands and feet. After this situation I am feeling pain in finger joints (both hands and feet), wrists, ankles and knees. Just after waking up in the morning the stiffness of fingers is highest. From past one week it's making me uncomfortable. Though some exercise helps to reduce pain and ease movement of joints. Are these symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis? If yes then how should I deal with it?

Symptoms are match to ra but you r suffering fever. Ok nw do a test of viral fever if that's positive then tk proper treatment and rest and avoid all exercise. Ok if viral fever is negative then test ra if positive then tk calcium supplements and gentle strength exercise of all joint avoid heavy strain.

And joint sounds can come and go, depending on how you position your body when you sit and sleep, and how you use your body when you move, One way to avoid creaking joints is to move as much as you can during the day the more your body lubricates itself, the sound will decrease. If it is associated with pain or swelling then its a point of concern. Otherwise its normal.

Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang asana -- lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

May be osteo arthritis. Let her try reduce wt. You can go for following remedy it will help you mix triphala powder in water. Keep it away for half an hour. Add a table spoon of pure honey. Have this in early morning daily. Raw onion dish eaten daily also can fix the matter. Have sweet soup made up of black gram. Combine black gram, rice, wheat and long pepper in equal quantities. Grind them to form powder. Fry the mixture in pure clarified butter so cook it with milk. Eat when adding sugar to that. Causes: consistent with ayurvedic concepts, nightfall is because of vata irritation. Hi Lybrate User... This pain is called sciatica pain. No need to worry. It will get OK.... Try doing some back stretching and strengthening exercises..... 1. Lie down face down and lift left leg and then right leg..... 2..Same position, lift both legs together for 5 seconds and drop.... 3. Lift left leg and right hand and then the opposit..... Basically if you practice back exercises regularly this pain will go. This is not a long term pain.
