Is there a medicine to improve hearing? or what are the ways to improve hearing longevity?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
Hearing loss may be conductive (due to ear drum perforation/ ear ossicle damage) or neural deafness. It can be diagnosed by audiometry ( hearing test). If it comes out as conductive deafness, can be corrected by surgery or if it comes out neural then hearing aid is only treatment.

HOW TO PRESERVE YOUR HEARING

Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (B.A.S.L.P)
Audiologist, Delhi

Now, today's world is suffering from many unknown ailments, due to our modern lifestyle, diet and many more. One of the most hazardous problems today's world is suffering from is ear related i. E ringing sound or tinnitus with vertigo and hearing loss. So as an audiologist my request and advice to all to avoid unwanted loud sound and protect your hearing by either wearing ear plugs or ear muffs or by avoiding such detrimental situations by wiseness, because tinnitus is mostly related to your duration of noise exposure. Because your health is in your hand. So you people decide.

First, you have to do a audiometry test to check the status of your ear. Im sure the problem must be in your middle ear system. So you continue medicine and consult your dr.

I, 65 years of age, is suffering from blocking /not able to hear clearly throughmy rightside ear for ten days. I am not having any pain. My doubt is, this is due to little cold I am having. I want to clear the trouble.

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
This could be due to blockage of eustachian tube that maintains pressure on both side of ear drum. When it is blocked due to any infection in nose/ throat it gives feeling of blocked ear and decreased hearing. Start tab. Sinarest twice a day and nasivion nasal drops 2-2-2-2 for 1 week. Do steam inhalation also.

Dear Yumnam, I am doing lot of work on Stem cells which are currently being used for blood disorders. Stem cells are also being used in Spinal cord injury, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke , Head injury etc only in the form of clinical trials. Stem cells have no role in curing Sensory Neural hearing loss as of today. Best wishes, Prof. Yashbir Dewan

I have hearing problem for the last few years. I hear at 50 to 60 dbs. I try to use hearing aids, but it helps just 20 or 30 %. Is there any permanent solution to cure this problem?

Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (B.A.S.L.P)

Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, I would suggest you to try out some good high end hearing aids which could really meet your expectations. You need to get done a proper audiometry test with speech discrimination scores, that would really help you in selecting and fitting a hearing aid.
