I am 49 years old and have had a surgery for myxoma in the left atrium of my heart almost 10 years back. What are the chances of the myxoma re-growing? thank you!

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
Hi thanks for the query don't get overly worried as chances of recurrence after four year of surgery is very minimal. The main postop complication is arrhythmia which occurs immediately and recurrence later on. If there is incomplete removal of myxoma the recurrence rate in first three years is 1-2.5% only. I would recommend you to get an echocardiography done to see the recurrence if it is there. Regards.

How to prevent heart deceases? Or heart attack? Any preventive measures are there to avoid it? Pls advice.
Hello, Healthy diet, regular physical activity, and not using tobacco products are the keys to prevention. Eat a healthy diet: A balanced diet is crucial to a healthy heart and circulation system. This should include plenty of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish and pulses, and restricted salt, sugar and fat intake. Take regular physical activity: At least 30 minutes of regular physical activity every day helps to maintain cardiovascular fitness; at least 60 minutes on most days helps to maintain healthy weight. Avoid tobacco use: Tobacco in every form is very harmful to health - cigarettes, cigars, pipes, or chewable tobacco. Exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke is also dangerous. The risk of heart attack and stroke starts to drop immediately after a person stops using tobacco products, and can drop by as much as half after one year. Check and control your cardiovascular risk:

Hello, start giving her Rauvolfia 1x, 2 tabs in the morning and 1 tab in the evening. Home remedies to Control high BP:-1. Bananas are one fruit that people with high blood pressure can eat regularly to control it. Bananas are a rich source of potassium, which lessens the effect of sodium. So, try to eat one or two bananas daily. Along with bananas, you can try dried apricots, raisins, orange juice, spinach, baked sweet potatoes. 2. Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. You can simply crush them with your hands. Crushing garlic cloves creates hydrogen sulfide, a compound that promotes good blood flow, removes gas and reduces the pressure on the heart. If you do not like eating raw garlic or if it causes a burning sensation, then take it along with a cup of milk. You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day.

Yes he need pacemaker. As his heart beat is below the lower limit. So consult with a cardiologist and follow his instructions. Bt before that do some test like holter monitor, tmt, thyroid profile, blood sugar. And you can contact me after doing this. If the reports are Normal then we can try to cure it by proper homeopathic medicine.

Also, make sure you keep a proper gap between you meals and sleep time and drink lots of hot water before your meal and before sleeping. Fennel seeds can give you relief from other indigestion symptoms like gas and bloating, too. •Add one teaspoon of crushed fennel seeds to a cup of hot water and let it steep for eight to 10 minutes. Remove from heat, allow it to cool and strain it. Add a little honey and drink it slowly. Also take Colocynth 30 - one dose for pain when required.

Sir please prescribe diet and exercise plan for prediabetes and high cholesterol.
Skip the sugary drinks. No sweet tea. No juice. No soda. No sweetened lemonade. Don't drink your sugar, Sugary drinks provide nothing more than empty calories, and they won't help you feel full. "All the sugary drinks out there are a real risk factor for obesity, You still can eat many of the foods you like, just have smaller amounts of them, Cut out high-calorie, junky snacks. Remember that even healthy foods can lead to weight gain if you eat too much of them, and being overweight is a primary risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Fill up on fiber. Eat plenty of high-fiber foods, including vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains. Fiber helps you feel fuller longer and can help you eat less to avoid weight gain. At least half your plate should be fruits and vegetables that have been steamed or sauteed in healthy fats. Those veggies can be fresh, frozen, or canned. Just skip the canned vegetables with added salt. Be choosy about fats. Your diet should have some fat, but opt for the healthiest sources: olive and vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and avocado. Buy low-fat or fat-free dairy products such as reduced-fat cheeses, non-fat or low-fat yogurt, and skim milk. Drink alcohol only in moderation. Men should have no more than two drinks a day, women no more than one. Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water. People often mistake thirst for hunger, which can lead to overeating and weight gain. "You feel better when you're hydrated "Staying hydrated helps to lower your blood sugar, which you should do anyway.
