Just healthy diet will not be enough. He has to Live a Healthy Lifestyle Eat a healthy diet. Choosing healthful meal and snack options can help you avoid heart disease and its complications. Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating foods low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fiber can help prevent high blood cholesterol. Limiting salt or sodium in your diet can also lower your blood pressure. Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or obese can increase your risk for heart disease. To determine whether your weight is in a healthy range, doctors often calculate a number called the body mass index (BMI).  Exercise regularly. Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Don't smoke. Cigarette smoking greatly increases your risk for heart disease. So, if you don't smoke, don't start. If you do smoke, quitting will lower your risk for heart disease. Your doctor can suggest ways to help you quit. Limit alcohol use. Avoid drinking too much alcohol, which causes high blood pressure.  If you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or diabetes, there are steps you can take to lower your risk for heart disease. Have your cholesterol checked. Your health care provider should test your cholesterol levels at least once every five years. Talk with your doctor about this simple blood test. Monitor your blood pressure. High blood pressure has no symptoms, so be sure to have it checked on a regular basis. Manage your diabetes. If you have diabetes, closely monitor your blood sugar levels. Talk with your health care provider about treatment options. Take your medicine. If you're taking medication to treat high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or diabetes, follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Always ask questions if you don't understand something. Talk with your health care provider. You and your doctor can work together to prevent or treat the medical conditions that lead to heart disease. Discuss your treatment plan regularly and bring a list of questions to your appointments

Warning Signs Of Heart Blockage!

MBBS, MD - Medicine, DM - Cardiology, Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology
Cardiologist, Delhi
Warning Signs Of Heart Blockage!

Heart Blocks are a result of plaque buildup in your arteries, which blocks blood flow and circulation to the heart, causing heart muscle damage and heightens the risk for heart attack and stroke.
Arteries which have smooth and elastic walls become thick and restrict blood flow from the cholesterol deposits over the years. Blood clots can also block the arteries that supply oxygen rich blood to the heart. These can eventually lead to strokes and heart attacks.

Some warning signs that you may be at risk of heart blockage:

  1. Have you had a mild stroke: Plaque that accumulates in the carotid artery supplying oxygen rich blood to the brain can cause a stroke. People who have had strokes are more prone to heart attacks.
  2. Do you often feel fatigue and dizziness: Reduced oxygen from poor circulation and blood flow can result in fatigue and tiredness as well as dizziness.
  3. Experiencing shortness of breath: Poor blood flow can lead to shortness of breath from even mild forms of exercise or even from carrying out daily chores or walking.
  4. Sudden chest pain: Chest pain or angina result from reduced supply of blood to the heart. It can be felt as pressure, tightness in the chest, squeezing in the chest, numbness or burning.
  5. Unexplained lower back pain: This can result from pressure in the spine as a result of pinched nerves due to compressed vertebrae discs as a result of poor blood flow.
  6. Erectile dysfunction in men: If an erection becomes difficult or impossible, it could be a warning sign of clogged arteries. These arteries supply blood to the pelvis area and help achieve an erection.
  7. Calf pain: Blocked leg arteries can cause calf pain, especially in smokers . THis is an early sign of possible heart blocks.
  8. Painful, numb and cold hands and feet: Plaque build up in the arteries of the extremities can cause numbness and coldness in the hands and feet. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cardiologist.

Reduce salt to minimum. Reduce fats like transfats. Take some good fats like a spoon of desi ghee or butter and a katori of assorted nuts everyday to get protein and good fats. Take medicine but do exercise in moderation. Eat lots of seasonal vegetables and fruits plus eating according to constitution. Take more proteins like milk and curds. If no relief with the group of medicines you are taking your doctor might change the medicines and give you a trial with another group of medicine.

If you people have not been taking care about diet after surgery in 2007, start now, avoid oily food, take lots of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits, a glass of warm water with lemon juice + spoon of honey every morning on empty stomach. Some good fats like a katori of assorted nuts + a spoon of desighee/ butter every day to boost up good fats and to reduce bad fats, stay away from transfats like namkeens, burgers, pizzas, tinned food and make it a habit to take less salt, avoid chutneys, pickles, papads etc as salt is used as a preservative in all packed foods bought from market.

Kindly get an ecg done and consult a cardiologist. Gastric acid excess can also cause pain and burning sensation near the heart because of oesophageal irritation by the excess acid. You can try gelusil syrup or pantocid tabs if the pain is mild and no spread to the left shoulder. During the time you visit a cardiologist.

Always experiencing palpation on my heart during the mid of the night. Waking up from nightmare, throat feeling sore, feet feels on fire, stomach rumbling, and neck feels tight! Especially during a cold weather day, or after I am extremely tired during the day time. To me it's more like a heart attack, but I've even appeared in the emergency room, they told me my heart looked OK. This pattern has been repetitively occurred like a myth for four years without an accurate diagnose. All I can say is that I self- diagnose myself as Chronic fatigue syndrome for 4 years too. Could you tell me what is wrong with me (chances of anxiety is very low), I'm waiting for a more reasonable answer!

Always experiencing palpation on my heart during the mid of the night. Waking up from nightmare, throat feeling sore,...
To rule whether it is from heart or not, you will need a Stress Echo and for the palpitations a Electrophysiology Study, in this we study your heart rhythm to see if you are having any abnormally fast or slow heart beat and if we find any we can treat it. A mere ECg will not be able to diagnose all this. So my advise is that instead of self diagnosing yourself get your self properly evaluated. Get your TSH, lipid profile done as well.

Do not think of extreme conditions. Every time you fall sick it does not mean that you have cancer. You could still be having some residual infection in the chest or some times cough takes little longer to settle down. Consult your doctor again and if required a chest x ray and a blood test can be done and a corse of antibiotics should be given.
