Dear lybrateuser, - To lower your bp, follow some precautions: - have a salt restricted diet, also avoid deep fried, processed & junk foods, restrict tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day, avoid alcohol & smoking if you do - have more of fruits, vegetables, whole grains instead of refined ones, low fat milk & dairy products & healthy fats as in olive, canola & sunflower oil for cooking, fish such as salmon, mackeral, tuna, nuts, almonds, walnuts, avocados, flax seeds - do regular exercise such as walking, jogging, swimming, yoga, meditation & deep breathing to keep fit - sleep well for 7-8 hrs at night, destress by reading, listening to music, playing a game, follow a hobby.

We do not need to draw blood while checking blood pressure. So there is no question of Clots here. Either you did not understand or you are not able to convey the problem properly. I will suggest you to go to a local physician and get your mother evaluated for a proper diagnosis.

I am 21 years old my blood pressure showed 139 and something 2 times after getting my bp checked at a doctor. He scared me alot by saying stuff like I should lose 10 kgs (im 75 right now) but he says I can not jog, I can not even walk or I might even get a heart attack then how am I supposed to lose any weight? My simple question is can my high blood pressure be cured totally after a certain period of time if I follow certain steps and medications? Yes or no just a simple answer I need.

You do not have too high BP and and both reading should be told to advise. You can do a TMT to decide if you can do exertion ad if ther is any heart issue /.You need to have diet plan based on your BMI & activities. Whatever we eat is metabolised by the body for the energy needed to do daily work and the excess is stored as fat. Abdomen is the first place to gain weight and last to disappear. In brief, Weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs / chest etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) Drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) Take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/2 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. And do aerobic exercises, running, jogging or at least walking briskly 3-5 KMs and swimming if possible, and in a gym if feasible. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise & dieting to take just as mush food as needed for your activities. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity. It is better to do some tests. One pound equals 3,500 calories. If you cut 500 a day from your diet, you'll lose a pound a week. People who lose weight slowly, about 1 to 2 pounds per week, are more successful at keeping the weight off. You'll also burn additional calories if you increase your physical activity. You weight-loss plan should do all of the following: •Emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. •Include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. •Contain foods low in saturated fats, avoid trans fats, and limit cholesterol and salt (sodium). •Avoid refined sugars and processed foods. Some tips to help you lose weight: •Keep a food diary. Writing down everything you eat is critical! Noting how you feel when you eat will help you identify emotional triggers that may cause you to overeat. Emotional eaters tend to overeat. •Eat when you're truly hungry rather than when you're tired, anxious or stressed. •Eat slowly. If you eat too fast, you eat more than you need to satisfy your hunger. Your brain needs time to catch up with your stomach. •Plan your meals ahead of time so you make healthy choices. When dining out, check the menu online and decide what you will order before you sit down. Ask for dressings on the side. Opt for foods that are baked, broiled or steamed versus fried or swimming in creamy sauces. Avoid chips and bread baskets—they add unnecessary calories. •Stay hydrated. People often mistake thirst for hunger. •Eat breakfast. If you skip this meal, you'll be starving by lunchtime. You'll have more difficulty making healthy choices throughout the day. •Find resources to help you keep track of your food choices and nutritional values, and that can offer additional support when you need it.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Triglycerides (TGL) 220 mg/100 ml, is not of any concern. There is really no need to take any treatment for that. However, since you are having hypothyroidism, it is necessary to achieve strict control of TSH, it should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L, to be free from any of the symptoms of that condition. Uncontrolled or poorly controlled hypothyroidism does affect lipid profile also. Good regulate exercise, weight control and avoiding saturated fats, will help in reducing TGL level. Thanks.

Start walking daily for 40-45 minutes. Drink a lot of water. Cut down on intake of salty or fried food. Junk food and processed foods should be avoided. One should take raw vegetables and fruits daily. Yoga and pranayamas are very effective in bringing blood pressure levels to normal. For maintaining bp to normal homoeopathic treatment plays best role. No side effects.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There are actually many causes of swelling in you lower limbs, it can simply be postural in nature wherein swelling decreases when you elevate your legs. But since you are a chronic hypertensive I will advise you to get yourself evaluated by a cardiologist since the swelling could be due to a cardiac cause as well. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

Daily cleansing with a gentle shampoo to reduce oiliness and skin cell buildup can often help mild dandruff. Shampooing with tea tree oil can also help eliminating dandruff. For severe dandruff antibacterial and antifungal shampoos as prescribed by me can reduce the fungus on your scalp that can cause dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. But never self treat fungal dandruff as it may develop resistance and cause lifelong probems do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.
