You should be able to distinguish between disappointment and depression. Disappointment also brings on symptoms identical to depression but they are short lived. Were you disappointed in the near past? please post a private question to me with every detail. I will help you. Take care.

A friend of mine was healthy and problem free. He had an argument with someone very close to his heart and he is possessive about. My friend is very sensitive about that person and the person means a lot to him. Now after the argument my friend started sweating, had vomiting and passed 2-3 stools. I am really worried about him since distance does not permit me to go and see him. Is it some sign of cardiac arrest or something?

As details of age and medical background are not available, it is difficult to make an assumption. However to be on the safer side, get an ECG done. It will reduce your fears once it turns out to be normal. It is likely that the sweating, vomiting and passing of stools was an acute reaction to the stressful situation. Look for any other signs of infection (fever, loose motions, abdominal pain, etc) and consult a physician if required. If all of the above is normal, consider approaching a psychiatrist or counselor who will be able to help your friend cope with such situations.

Hi lybrate-user, it sure will take time for you feel normal again. There will be difficult times during this phase and relapse but stick with your medication and make lifestyle changes in your routine - proper sleep, eat healthy and exercise daily. Yoga and meditation will help you cope with feelings of hopelessness.

Dear lybrate-user: The patient needs to be assessed for underlying psychological factors. Developmental history and personality factors also need to be evaluated. If the anxiety attack seems sudden, with no apparent situational correlates, you need to check for signs of panic attack. If the diagnosis is panic attack, then treatment may be done either by a psychiatrist or by an experienced psychologist with therapeutic skills in managing anxiety disorder and panic attack.

4 Logical Ways to Save Your Relationship When You’re Depressed

M.Sc - Psychotherapy

4 Logical Ways to Save Your Relationship When You’re Depressed
Ways to Save Your Relationship When You’re Depressed

The foremost thing that you can do to save your relationship is get your spouse treated for depression. When you are depressed, whether it is because of your relationship with your partner or some other reason, you must make joint efforts to save your relationship. Non depressed spouse has to take the lead. A relationship cannot go further only with the patience of one partner. Efforts and care of both the partners go hand in hand.

However, there are few things you can do even when you or your partner is depressed.

1. Communication: Don’t stop communicating with your partner. It’s very important to understand your partner’s viewpoint and to make him understand your viewpoint. Until, both of you share your thoughts and concerns; you will not be able to save the relationship.

2. Think about your commitment: When you are depressed, you might make your partner responsible for all the wrong things. You need to be wise. Don’t let one bad moment spoil your years of relationship. Think of the commitment you have made to your partner and then you might handle the situation in a more loving way.

3. Don’t leave your partner alone for longer time: After presenting your viewpoint, you must give your partner some time to digest everything. What is easy for you might be difficult for him and what is difficult for you might be easy for him? In such a case, you need to leave him alone for some time but do take care that this silence shouldn’t continue for a longer time.

4. Don’t play blame games: If you are depressed, you shouldn’t let your partner suffer from that. Do not strain the relationship any further by playing blame games. That will not help. When your spouse says something that seems negative try not to personalize it, even if it's directed at you. Attribute it to the state of depression.

While this can be a very difficult time for both you and your spouse, you can weather this storm with compassion and empathy.

Birth and death is a process of nature and god. I know you love him/her very much but this is not necessary that if his/her time had finished his /her work and duties had complet in this world then your also has finished. Be practical live your life, love yourself but love your parents and other loved ones too. Whenever you feel sad and dipressed you can do breathing exercise. Or you can consult to a psychologist also. If you want to take any help from us you can contact us.

Whoever said that is quite wrong. Medicine and therapy in combination are ideal for a cure for depression. In her depressed state she may be frustrated with her weight gain and low moods and is probably looking for some excitement even if it is to irritate you. You need not take it too personally but her depression is serious and needs immediate attention. To handle her weight gain she will need to get on a weight-loss program along with medication and counseling.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. If the task is boring, it is natural that that person will sleep or feel sleepy. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Take care.

Hi you need some cognitive behavioral therapy to do reality testing of your thoughts. Its not a big problem and you will cope with it soon. One advice for time being is whenever you feel stressed or even before sleeping. Do some creative visualisation. Take deep breath and imagine yourself step by step achieving your goals. Take pride in your accomplishments.

Mental disorders are treatable just like other medical disorders. Take example of diabetes and hypertension. Medicines of bipolar affective disorder can be stopped 5 years after the last episode and should be stopped under supervision. And since you are experiencing hallucinations it is possibility that you are having flashes of events and also may be having episode of depression but before starting any treatment. You need to consult a psychiatrist. All the best.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Memory and mind power depends on three aspects. Understanding, retention and recollection. Recollection is easy if your retention is proper and flawless. Retention is possible when you are able understand what you read or learn. To understand you should have concentration. Concentration comes from effective learning techniques based on creative and active learning. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, socializing coupled with systematic learning improves your memory and mind power. Vegetables, fruits and nuts are perfect for memory. Brain games like sudoku and jigsaw puzzles helps too. Avocados, Beetroots, Blueberries, Broccoli. Celery, Coconut Oil, Dark Chocolate etc are good for improving concentration and memory. I suggest online education counseling. Take care.
