You may need cleaning, root canal treatment & capping. Until then apply clove oil on the decayed tooth. Rinse frequently with mouth wash. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

It's been 12 days since I got my upper right wisdom tooth extracted. It was a simple extraction. No sutures involved, wasn't painful later and bleeding stopped in a day. I am following a soft food diet until now. Can I resume having meat or chicken from now? Will it affect my clot and wound. How much more longer should I wait until I resume meat!

Yes you can easily resume eating watever you like. Nothing will happen. It will not affect the wound healing process. But continue with warm saline water rinse.

10 Reasons for Toothache

10 Reasons for Toothache

Toothache is a painful dental condition that affects many people worldwide. At times the excruciating pain can drive a normal person insane. Cavity and tooth decay contribute to toothache in a big way. However, toothache can also be an indication of some serious dental ailments that needs immediate attention. The following factors/reasons can equally contribute to toothache (mild or severe).

  1. Tooth decay: Tooth decay and cavities are synonymous to unhealthy teeth and toothache. Cavities can also give rise to awkward complications like bad breath. Thus, proper dental care and hygiene is of topmost priority. It is highly recommended to brush the teeth three times daily.
  2. Accidental falls: Accidents incurred during sports or games often go unnoticed and untreated. This can invite unwanted complications like broken teeth, infections or inflammations resulting in toothache.
  3. Unhealthy gums: Bleeding, painful and swollen gums and many other gum ailments can severely affect the teeth. At an advanced stage, this can lead to unbearable toothache.
  4. Bruxism: Many people knowingly or unknowingly indulge in Bruxism or tooth grinding. Bruxism can have serious dental implications. It exerts tremendous pressure on the teeth and the supporting tissues. Eventually the jaw muscles also get affected, with toothache being the inevitable consequence.
  5. Decaying enamel: Healthy enamel implies healthy teeth. Factors like excessive intake of sweets, drinks and chocolates play a significant role in enamel decay.  This can have a detrimental effect on the teeth resulting in toothache.
  6. Abscess, a serious dental ailment:  Abscess is the manifestation of dental infections, whereby pus formation takes place between the gum and a tooth. Pus formation can also take place at the base of a tooth resulting in toothache.
  7. Cracked tooth syndrome: A fractured tooth often acts as a catalyst, leading to toothache. The crack on the tooth is so small that even an x-ray fails to reveal it. Factors like bruxism, tooth decay, to name a few; contribute to the Cracked Tooth Syndrome.
  8. The wisdom mystery: Lucky are those whose wisdom teeth erupt completely, at a single go. Impacted wisdom teeth can give a person sleepless nights. Misaligned teeth are no better.
  9. Toothache and periodontal complications: It is a serious condition leading to shooting pain and inflammation. The inflammation and pain affects the root of the tooth immensely. It usually results from infections in plaque formations.
  10. Sinus infections: In many cases, it has been found that sinus infection can lead to toothache. Positioned close to the upper back teeth, the sinuses give rise to what is known as a dull ache.

Toothache can be an amalgamation of many factors. Thus, it is very important to go for periodical dental & full body check ups.

Ways in Which Dentures Can Improve a Person's Life?

Ways in Which Dentures Can Improve a Person's Life?

Dentures are prosthetic devices and their purpose is to replace missing teeth. Dentures are basically false teeth, which are supported by the tissues of the oral cavity. Most dentures are removable, while some are permanently fixed. Dentures are widely used by people all over the world, who have missing teeth.

Here are the ways in which dentures can improve a person's life:

  1. Speaking becomes clearer: Missing teeth make it difficult for a person to speak clearly. Using dentures will fix this problem and you will be able to speak clearly and properly as dentures take place of the natural teeth. It takes some time to get adjusted to dentures and many people practice pronunciation of difficult words in front of the mirror after getting dentures fitted in their mouth.
  2. You can eat normally again: Missing teeth cause difficulty in eating and you are unable to eat many of your favorite dishes, which require strong teeth. After getting a denture fitted, you can get back to eating all sorts of foods again and biting or chewing won't be difficult anymore. This too takes some time to adjust and in the beginning, you should eat soft foods by cutting them into small pieces. You should abstain from having chewing gums or hard food initially.
  3. Your self esteem gets improved: Losing teeth makes you look bad and many people feel embarrassed or ashamed because of missing teeth. A denture is a perfect remedy for this. After getting dentures, your teeth will be back and will look and feel natural. There is usually no worry about the dentures falling off or slipping out as they are fitted properly in the gums. You will look good, and the lost confidence will be back.
  4. You will have improved oral health: Missing teeth cause health problems, such as bone loss in the jaw area. To avoid this from happening, dentures should be used. These teeth implants will replace your old teeth, and bone loss will be prevented.
  5. You will appear younger: Missing teeth alter the structure of your face. Wrinkles might appear or the face may seem to look collapsed, then dentures can effectively support the structure of your face and make it appear to be more youthful with added fullness.

Dentures improve the quality of a person's life greatly with missing teeth. They should be taken care of properly, cleaned regularly and you should have regular dentist appointments to ensure a proper fit of the denture. If you wish to discuss about any specific dental problem, you can consult a specilized dentist and ask a free question.

You Loose tooth RCT success rate is very poor..if tooth is very loose then i feel RCT wnt work unnecessarily you are doing RCT.. If tooth is Loose then it means you have Periodontal problem, at first for periodontis treatment is needed. If periodontal problem is bit solved then RCT we can try. Your treatment will be depending upon your condition, after seeing the Xray we can say the the proper treatment plan.. But one thing if tooth is very loose then Extraction of that tooth is best option.

Teeth Grinding

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Teeth Grinding
Grinding your teeth or clenching your jaws? it's called bruxism, and often it happens as you sleep and is often caused by stress.

Teeth grinding can be caused not just by stress and anxiety but by sleep disorders, an abnormal bite or teeth that are missing or crooked. The symptoms of teeth grinding include:

Dull headaches
Jaw soreness
Teeth that are painful or loose
Fractured teeth
Your dentist can fit you with a mouth guard to protect your teeth during sleep. In some cases, your dentist or physician may recommend taking a muscle relaxant before bedtime. If stress is the cause you need to find a way to relax. Meditation, counseling and exercise can all help reduce stress and anxiety.

Teeth grinding is also common in children. However, because their teeth and jaws change and grow so quickly it is not usually a damaging habit that requires treatment and most outgrow it by adolescence.

Although in adults teeth grinding is often the result of stress, the same is not always true with children. Other possible causes of teeth grinding in children include:

Irritation in the mouth
Allergies
Misaligned teeth

Keep smiling
Be happy

From last 5 Months my tooth gum little swell up and it also shrink downward from teeth.
You have got infection in your gums which is why it's swollen and also receding from your teeth. The best course of treatment is to go to the dentist and get a scaling done. This will help eliminate your infection. Besides maintaining oral hygiene is of prime importance if you don't want your gum infection to recur.

Why do the doctors ask whether the patient has artificial tooth, while admitting him. Is there any connection between dental disease and heart problems.

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Why do the doctors ask whether the patient has artificial tooth, while admitting him. Is there any connection between...
Dear Lybrate user, the doctors usually ask for artificial teeth while admitting patients in the hospital with regards to removable partial or complete dentures. Any patient who requires oxygen mask or tubings through the mouth or neck area for breathing or nutrition or a patient who is unconscious has to get the denture plates removed because it involves the risk of aspiration/accidental swallowing. The link between poor oral hygiene and heart disease is limited to the fact that a person with poor oral health and bacteria in his mouth stands a risk of transfer of these bacteria to the heart via the blood stream. Otherwise, dentures, crowns/caps, bridges, fillings, implants etc do not have any role in causing heart problems.

I have yellow marks on teeth How get rid from it?
I think its is cause of fluoride mixd water
Suggest what should I do?
Hello. When brushing twice a day and flossing doesn't help improve your yellow teeth, it's time to consider other options. Teeth become yellow due to stains – both deep and surface-level – as well as other causes that sometimes aren't under our control. Although coffee and cigarettes leave stains on your teeth over time, thin tooth enamel also makes teeth look yellow. Tooth enamel is the hard, white surface of your teeth, and underneath it is a pale brown substance called dentin. Thick enamel looks white, but thin enamel allows dentin tones to show through, making teeth look yellow from the outside. Enamel naturally wears thin as people age, but acids from foods and drinks such as sour candies, oranges and soda also thin the enamel by eroding its surface. Saliva neutralizes acid and washes it away, but people suffering from dry mouth miss out on this protective effect. Other causes of yellow teeth include antibiotic use or excessive fluoride intake in young children, which can cause yellow-stained adult teeth later. Treatments for certain conditions can also affect tooth color. For example, head and neck radiation and chemotherapy can cause teeth discoloration. In addition, certain infections in pregnant mothers can cause tooth discoloration in the infant by affecting enamel development. Certain medication, mouth rinses can also causes yellow staining. Preventing Yellow Teeth: Avoiding smoking, coffee and soda helps prevent yellow teeth, or you can get into the habit of drinking those darker beverages through a straw. Drink milk or plain water after eating or drinking something acidic to help reduce the acid's eroding effect. Brushing and flossing also help, and avoiding snacks between meals allows your saliva to dilute the acids in your mouth too. Using over-the-counter whitening agents will also helps. Discolorations are generally responsive to bleaching procedures.

Brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride tooth paste using mouthwashes , dental floss on a daily basis not only improves Oral hygiene but also keeps your teeth strong. Prevention is better than cure so get yourself routinely checked up for cavities.

Sir, my rootcanal complete before 6 month but in this is small hole, now in want cap on teeth pls guide me this is correct or not & how may rs spend in this process?

BDS
Dentist, Dibrugarh
You would have gone through capping of the tooth at that time only. You can go for capping now also . Before that you should go for restoration of that cavity (hole) which is done after RCT. Make sure the RCT is in good condition. By xray you can get it checked. And cap rates vary according to material of cap.

I'm suffering from tooth ache and my head is paining badly please help me out with medicines or any other thing.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
I'm suffering from tooth ache and my head is paining badly please help me out with medicines or any other thing.
The type of treatment you have for toothache will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. • If your toothache is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. • If your toothache is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. • If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. • If your toothache can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.
