I asked how will be our baby fair or dark in complexion so please tel me what should I take in my diet so that our baby will be surely fair because we both not fair and not dark also in the middle.

MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Ludhiana
Complexion of baby is not affected by your diet but depends on gene which baby receives from parents. Don't worry, even if both parents have average complexion, still there are some chances that your baby can be fair. More than complexion, health of baby should be important to you, so have healthy diet & stress free life.

I am having thick jelly like discharge no smelly no itching my period is due after 9 days what does this mean?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
No itching ,no smell, but a jelly like discarge sometimes happens due to cyclical harmonal changes happening in the body not only because of the monthly periods we have but also sometimes due to work stress, emotional turbulence, change of diet, change of surroundings ,sleep disorders, Sexual interaction and also due to essential nutrients deficiency. Advise you to wait for your periods to get over and see if it still continues or not based on which you can revert back to us for further advice. Healthy lifestyle, balanced diet, good sleep and dietary supplements for the deficiency you have should be able to resolve it.

Pcod is very common now. Don't worry about it. You reduce your weight at least 5%of your present weight which helps in conception. You first rule out pregnancy now. If pregnancy test is negative, you need to take tablets for withdrawal bleed. After your menses, go for hormonal evaluation and scan and start with infertility treatment.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
The New Sex Disease

Doctors used to think this STD threatened only women. Then the men started dying.
The culprit: Human papillomavirus (HPV), the same sexually transmitted infection associated with cervical cancer in women. A huge spike in the number of head and neck cancers linked to HPV over nearly two decades is raising alarms about the risk of the sexually contracted infections in a whole new population: men.

A study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology reports there?s been a 225 percent uptick in HPV-positive oropharynx cancers since 1998, according to data from three U.S. Cancer centers. The study also predicts that by 2020, oropharyngeal cancer will be the most common HPV-associated cancer in the U.S. Surpassing cervical cancer.

Previously, tobacco and alcohol use had been the main causes of these tumors, which occur in the tonsils, base of the tongue and upper throat. But over the past few years, studies have shown HPV is playing a role in these cancer rates, likely due to an increase in oral sex even as tobacco use has fallen.
While HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease, studies show women?s bodies usually clear the virus from the cervix quickly; only an infection that persists for years is a cancer risk. It?s not known if oral HPV acts in a similar way, nor is it clear if oral sex is the only way it?s transmitted,
Regardless, more than 11,000 cervical cancer cases will be diagnosed this year, a number that has been dropping steadily thanks to better Pap smears. The researchers calculated that annual cases of cervical cancer will drop to 7,700 by 2020 ? compared with about 8,700 cases of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer ? about 7,400 of them in men.

Can the vaccine that?s currently given to young women protect men against oral HIV?
HPV vaccination is approved for boys to prevent genital warts and anal cancer, additional problems caused by human papillomavirus. But protection against oral HPV hasn?t been studied in either gender, said report author Dr. Maura Gillison, a head-and-neck cancer specialist at Ohio State.
A spokeswoman for Merck & Co, maker of the HPV vaccine Gardasil, said the company has no plans to study the vaccine on oral cancer.
Regardless, the cancer society said the report suggests that patients with HPV-linked oral tumors have better survival odds than those with other types of this cancer, possibly because they tend to be younger.
Have a sore throat that lasts longer than two weeks? CONSULT PRIVATELY. Just because you?re not a smoker or drinker doesn?t mean you can?t get throat cancer.

Keep your spirits high. Lose more weight. For your height, you are still overweight. Oral contraceptive pills can be continued for some more time. Ask your doctor to evaluate you for hyperinsulinemia. You might need a few more drugs to control your hormonal imbalance. Myoinositol- d-chiro inositol along with vitamin D and chromium preparations are available in the market for treatment of PCOD. But the most important management option still remains to be weight loss.

4 Things to Know about Spine Surgeries

4 Things to Know about Spine Surgeries

The thought of going under the knife to treat your spine problem may give rise to a range of emotions; make you ponder over a number of things such as the recovery period, procedure and techniques involved and so on. Nonetheless, before opting for the surgery, there are certain points that you should go over and these are:

  • Be well aware of the cause of your pain - Identifying the cause that is behind your pain is vital in order to decide whether the surgery is going to prove beneficial in the long run or not. If the cause is not identified as the right one, the surgery may prove futile and you may not get the pain relief that you're looking for.
  • Gather detailed information about your spine surgeon - Before visiting the spine surgeon, you should collect detailed information about the specialist so as to be able to come up with appropriate questions concerning the surgery. From questions concerning about the surgeon's success and complication rates, numbers of surgeries performed to qualifications of the surgeon, these and much more should be part of your evaluation process.
  • Prepare yourself before a consultation - It's good to prepare yourself before a medical consultation. Whether it's researching about the surgery and your condition or being well aware of your family's medical history, or details about the pain that you experience, or your expectations from the surgery, every aspect should be covered so that you derive the maximum benefit from your meeting.
  • Carry out your own research - Carrying out your own research on the alternatives before opting for the surgery can put you on a better footing. It's imperative to compare the opinion put forward by the surgeon from genuine sources so that you're better able to understand the merits and demerits of the treatment.
