I had done mri because Dr. Told he feel I having convulsion bt everything is normal except one thing 1) the right cerebellar tonsils is low lying and peg shaped What it means pls reply me and tell it is dangerous or critical thing.

MD - Homeopathy, BHMS
Homeopath, Ghaziabad
Well, it is a very classified finding that you have reported. In simple langauage if I say it will be like cerebellum is a part of brain and at the back of cerebellum there is a lobule like part known as Cerebellar Tonsil. In some people it gets shifted little down may be right from the birth it is like that and in some due to some reason it happens. At times most of the people does not have any problem but some might report problems like headache, pain in neck, vertigo, problems in maintaining balance etc. Convulsions or seizures could be another group of symptoms. It mostly is not dangerous but yes you to be under supervision of your Neurologist. With the help of medicines they might control things or if required they might opt for intervention depending upon the cause of this shifting of tonsils. It is believed that increase pressure inside the head can also cause this so it is better to discuss with your doctor and you can opt for second opinion also.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, DAA (Allergy)
Pulmonologist, Mangalore
Hi dear Lybrate-user Since a year back you had rapid heart rate and now you have dizziness with chest pain. You can meet a cardiologist and get Holter monitoring. It will check your heart rate over 24 hours to see if you have any heart rate problem which comes and goes at specific time in a day. If everything is normal it may just be gastric symptoms. Do not worry.

My father is a TIA and sinus bradycardia patient, today his bp was 155/77 and pulse 58. Is his BP a cause of concern.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, DM - Cardiology, Fellowship in EP
Cardiologist, Delhi
Not much concern. Measure BP only once every month on fixed date after resting for ten minutes. Avoid measuring BP on impulse, it fluctuates with every discomfort.

I am becoming fat day by day and suffering from asthma tell me the precautions to be taken please?
Hi, suggestions to reduce weight: 1.Reduce Salt Intake: More salt in body means more sodium which gives a puffy look to your body. So, it’s advised to eat less salt and more potassium as it will reduce the amount of water in the body resulting in reduced weight. 2. Never Skip Exercise: Exercise daily because this is one sure-shot way of reducing weight because it burns direct fat. Especially cardio exercises can help in reducing weight but you have to be regular in that. 3. Manage Your Diet Well: Diet management is the first and foremost thing that can help you deal with the problem of obesity. It is not easy and everyone’s cup of tea to have a control on diet but half the battle is won, if you can deal with this dietary change. Your diet should be low in calories, with less carbohydrates and less fats. 4. Have Mint Leaves: Taking mint leaves in warm water half an hour after taking meals will prove to be beneficial in losing weight as it helps in proper digestion and boosting metabolism. 5. Drink Green Tea: Green tea, an antioxidant by nature can go a long way in helping you reduce weight. So, prefer taking green tea, if not more once or twice a day. 6. Switch To Lukewarm Water: Drinking lukewarm water every time you are thirsty will reduce fat deposits in your body, so you must go for it. 7. Make Homemade Food: Prefer eating homemade food and avoid fatty and fast food. A)daily 30 min walk twice in a day B)eat right, no fast food, no oily food, no spicy food C)no rice, no potatoes D)add more vegetables and salad E)no alcohol, no smoking F)weekly monitoring of weight and bp G)blood investigations like lipid profile

My mom is suffering from tb from past 5 years. Even though they complete one year treatment of t. B, its not cured. Now its getting increasing. Any other treatment to cure this completely? please suggest.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Pune
Hello , first of all it is very important to rule out drug resistant tb by doing sputum bactec afb culture and sensitivity test. Once confirmed, we can start her on definitive anti tubercular treatment based on reports. So do the test as early as possible and consult your doctor for further treatment. Thank you.
