First of all congretulations on perusing your study after the baby. It shows both your love for progress and your commitment. I am sure you might be feeling that 24 hours in a day are less for you. And you might be surprised by my recommendation. Once you try it you will know it works. So few things I would like to strongly recommend 1. Engage in some kind of exercise daily for may be 20 minutes to begin with. If you haven't been working out then you could start with something very simple. As simple as walking will also work. And slowly you increase the intensity and time both. Exercise will help you with both blood circulation and oxygen intake. Result would be more energy and positivity in your day. 2. Do some kind of relaxation exercise daily. May be 10 minutes of meditation. Just sit with your eyes close in a comfortable position. And as you breath focus on your breath. Feel it going in and coming out. Thoughts are going to come. Remember thoughts are like a waves. It comes and it goes. Each time you realize that thought has come just simply bring your attention back to your breath. You are not fighting with your thought. There is no judgement also. All meditations are good meditations. Just sitting quietly for 10 minutes daily will spread it's magic in your day. If you do it regularly for 2 weeks you will see its calming effect in your day. 3. I am. Sure your first priority is your baby. And then you are giving priority to your house work. Then whatever little energy you have you are giving it to your study. Try switching priority. Slowly make a shift. Decide to begin with one house hold chor that can wait. And put that time and energy into your study. That way instead of feeling exhausted when you study you have some energy. When you are fresh and positive your focus and concentration is more and that will help you finish more work in relatively less time. I do understand that it is easier said then done. You will have your own struggles. And it is equally true that if there is a will there is a way. So please remember to be kind to yourself. Instead of being harsh on yourself if something doesn't go as you wanted. Be kind and forgive yourself. Laugh instead of getting angry. If you could remember to do this even one or two times in a day to begin with. That will generate positive energy. So please take care of yourself. Once you do that taking care of others is easier. Make a little shift in your priority. When your child sleeps instead of rushing to finish household work. Make a nice cup of tea or coffee for yourself and sit down to study. When you are able to make progress in your study. I am sure you will feel good and happy. Then house hold work will not be a burden. With your baby around you can sing and dance and also do your house work. One step at a time. One day at a time. You could make major life style changes. What is depression and how to deal with it.

We all have times is life when we feel sad and low. Is that a disease and does it require treatment? how to differentiate that sad feeling with depression? this is the question that comes to our mind which leads us to seek treatment from a doctor.

Depression is basically a disorder of mood where there is an reduction of a chemical called serotonin in the brain. Lack of sunlight, stressfull events such as child birth, illness, divorce, work tensions, bereavement, pain, lack of intimate relationships etc can all lead to depression.

To be classified as depression the following symptoms must be present for at least 2 weeks.
Loss of interest or pleasure in anything including what you used to enjoy before.
Sleep disturbances including early wakening, excessive sleeping or inability to sleep.
Ideas of guilt or worthlessness
Decrease or increase in appetite
Inability to concentrate
Slow and sluggish thought process and movements.

As you can notice all these symptoms effect our normal daily functioning and hence requires immediate attention. Suicidal risk in particular is an emergency and needs hospitalization.

The treatment depends on the condition of the patient and there are several options. Nowadays being depressed has become a cool thing and people take antidepressants" happy pills" by themselves. This is not a healthy thing to do. You must consult a doctor and get yourself evaluated before you take any medicines.

If she is gone for good, you have to plan ahead and think with your kids priorities utmost in mind. I can understand your grief, but many times things in life happen to our surprise and dejection. Learn to live with the situation, introspect the reasons why she left. Another life partner might be difficult for your kids to adjust. Think well and plan wisely. All the best

This is the only condition were you are required to literally do the opposite of what you feel like doing. Depression makes you want to withdraw, lie down, sleep, become lethargic, slow down, make you too lazy to even think etc. So when I suggested doing the opposite, you will need to fight this disease. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, and wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch a lot of sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. I hope you can find someone to love and be loved too, if you are not already married. Whatever happens please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. If you are still not relieved from the depression, then go first to a counselor and later to a psychiatrist, if the counselor advises you.

The brain is capable of producing new brain cells at any age, so significant memory loss is not an inevitable result of aging. But just as it is with muscle strength, you have to use it or lose it. Your lifestyle, health habits, and daily activities have a huge impact on the health of your brain. Whatever your age, there are many ways you can improve your cognitive skills, prevent memory loss, and protect your grey matter. The hippocampus, a region of the brain involved in the formation and retrieval of memories, often deteriorates with age. Hormones and proteins that protect and repair brain cells and stimulate neural growth also decline with age. Older people often experience decreased blood flow to the brain, which can impair memory and lead to changes in cognitive skills. Exercise the mind and keep it always occupied with new challenges in the form of reading, learning new languages, doing crosswords, puzzles, anagrams, jigsaws, picture completion, picture comparison, sentence completion, Sudoku, riddles, etc. Exercise is a must, and a good eating habit and diet is very essential. Do not drink and smoke, and if you have any bad habits kindly stop them, immediately. You must learn to be stress free and learn relaxation exercises too. Maintain good relations at home and with society. Play games you are not already familiar with that involve strategy, like chess or bridge, and word games like Scrabble. Read newspapers, magazines, and books that challenge you. Get in the habit of learning new things: games, recipes, driving routes, a musical instrument, a foreign language. New research indicates that walking six to nine miles every week can prevent brain shrinkage and memory loss. According to the American Academy of Neurology, older adults who walked between six and nine miles per week had more gray matter in their brains nine years after the start of the study than people who didn't walk as much. If you are not yet old, you may want to work on prevention rather than the cure. That is a good idea. Plan your day well but do not be too rigid. Follow a meaningful and prayerful lifestyle too. One thing that I have seen in many people who have started to live a life of giving and sharing (either in time, money, service and love) have found such pleasure and satiation that the longevity in life and in memory has received a major boost.
