Dear questioner, please understand that i-pill should not be taken to delay periods. It is to be used as an emergency contraceptive measure and that too only after consulting a doctor. Different tablets are to be taken to delay periods. Please consult with your doctor. Thanks Dr. Anup khosla.

Dear lybrate-user, yes the test does indicate your friend is pregnant. But even though tablets are available which can terminate the pregnancy one must not use them without a doctors advice. Your friend is strongly advised to consult with a gynaecologist who will confirm the pregnancy and also more importantly whether the pregnancy is intra-uterine or very rarely ectopic. This could be done clinically or more accurately by an ultrasound. After that she can be put on a course of specific medication. In about 90% cases the pregnancy may be terminated completely by the tablets alone however in about 10% cases some complications like a failed termination/incomplete abortion with resultant continuous irregular or very heavy bleeding may occur. In that case surgical intervention as a d&e procedure may be required. This process has to completed before 9 weeks of pregnancy so she must visit her doctor asap. Thanks

Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, I appreciate your concern that your wife has not conceived for the last 5 years post your marriage. Generally 5 years is enough time to have a child under normal circumstances. Both your wife and you need to consult a gynaecologist and have a series of tests to find out the reason for the infertility. Bear in mind that in a third of the cases each the fault may lie with either the husband or the wife and the remaining third could come in the unexplained infertility. Your wife would need to be examined and some blood tests and an ultrasound would be asked for. For you primarily a seen examination would be essential. Don't lose hope sometimes it is only a minor problem which could be set right with medication. You may contact me with your reports etc. Best of luck. Dr. Anup khosla.
