25 years old female from Chennai asked
I am 25 years old and suffering from rheumatoid arthritis from past 3 years. I am felling pain and swelling in knee joints, elbow joints and others too. So is there ways to reverse joint damage causes by arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis is very much controllable disease. With the advancement of drugs for Rgeumatoid people live like other normal people with proper use of DMARDS (disease modifiying anti rheumatic drugs. Drugs will help you preventing further progression of disease and joint damage but once the joints get damaged totally drugs have little role in preventing further progression. So my advice will consult any Rheumatologist of your area who can guide you properly. Hope this will help you.
40 years old female from Bhopal asked
Hello Dr. my wife age 41 year was diagnosed with scleroderma on the firearms. Punch biopsy sample was sent to Dr. uday khopkar in sept 2015. What treatment should we take to avoid further complications. Presently she has some problem in her finger which get swollen and red when get in touch with moisture or cold water.
Dear Mr. lybrate-user Scleroderma is a systemic disease so do not be in a misconception of Scleroderma of forearm. According to your description it seems to be a limited scleroderma. Presence of Pulmonary hypertension and ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease) muat be evaluated. Discolouration and gangreen of digits are the most common cause for which pt initially seek attention but that is the tip of the iceberg only. Avoidence of cold is utmost important and some vasodilatory medication will require specially during winter. Please consult your local Rheumatologist for furtjer giudance.
