Hi lybrate-user to gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

I understand your concern. It is your your hormones which have made you fat and keeping you fat around your tummy area. Unless we make correct diagnosis and and create a diet and lifestyle plan to correct that hormonal abnormalities you will not be able to lose weight for long term. Avoid all junk food and all sweet food. Low fat diet does not work for majority of people. Eat wholesome nutritious food full of fibers, good quality fat like ghee and coconut etc. Don't focus on calories but on nutritional density and diversity. Simultaneously working on exercise and diet will surely help. Best rate to lose weight is 1/2 kg per week. If that happens, it is least likely to go high again in future. Trying to lose weight in very short time will need some form of crash diet. Even if you lose weight doing this kind of crash diet, you will get it all back within no time and all the gain will be mainly fat. Not good for your health. Be gentle and patient with yourself. Demonstrate commitment in your persistent efforts. Make comprehensive change in diet, exercise, sleep and stress in your routine. This is called lifestyle medicine. If you can not do it on your own, find some lifestyle medicine expert who can help you in this over extended period of time. We even do this long distance over phone. Best wishes.

Hi doc I am 26 yes married trying to conceive from 1.5 years I have a 28 - 30 days cycle now I missed my period now it is 13 days post my cycle I took a pregnancy test before 3 days (that is post 10 days of my period) but it was negative when can I take next test can I be pregnant or wat else to do please help.

Hello, as pregnancy test is negative after 10 days now post missed periods then you are not pregnant during this cycle. You may try again during your fertile period in the next cycle. Till then wait for menses to return for atleast next 5 days.

I am having a dry lips situation which doesn't seem reduce. I apply lip balm every day but that's just a temporary solution. After few hours my lips dry again and the lip skin starts peeling off similar to as in the case of dry lips. This happen all seasons irrespective of humidity in the climate. Am I having some deficiency and how can I take care of it if yes?

Hello, Lips can become chapped or dry when they are exposed to the sun, wind, and cold or dry air. Licking lips, dehydration, nutritional deficiency and few medication can be other reasons for making the lips dry. Consider these tips: Protect your lips. Before going out in cold, dry weather, apply a lubricating lip cream or balm that contains sunscreen — and then cover your lips with a scarf. Reapply often while outdoors. Avoid licking your lips. Saliva evaporates quickly, leaving lips drier than before you licked them. If you tend to lick your lips, avoid flavored lip balm — which may tempt you to lick your lips even more. Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, and moisten the air in your home with a humidifier. Avoid allergens. Avoid contact with irritants or allergens, such as fragrances or dyes, in cosmetics or skin care products. Breathe through your nose. Breathing through your mouth can cause your lips to dry out. If chapping is severe and doesn't respond to treatment at home, consult your doctor. Rarely, persistent chapped lips may indicate an underlying problem. A lip balm containing petroleum or beeswax will provide a barrier and help seal in moisture. Use Bakson’s Lip Balm.

1.Drink Enough Water Water is the best medicine to maintain a clear, healthy and glowing skin. Drinking plenty of water will make the skin supple. You must drink atleast 8 glasses of water per day. Water should never be an option, since it is  the key to hydration. Water helps to moisturize your skin, and  flushes the toxins to clean your body from inside 2.You must have enough sleep, as the skin cells rejuvenates and heal themselves. Sleeping properly lowers your stress levels and avoid your skin from dry, dullness. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep with your back facing the bed, because when you sleep on your side ways or facing your pillow then the bacteria on that pillow might spread to your face. Also remove your make up before going to bed and wash your face with a mild soap. 3.One tablespoon cucumber juice • One teaspoon lime juice • One teaspoon turmeric • One teaspoon glycerine (for dry skin) Preparation: Mix all the ingredients and apply on your face can be applied under and around eyes also. Apply with the help of cotton balls. Leave it for 15 minutes. Wash with cold water .For best results use this face mask daily for a week. Best for oily skin. For dry skin add some glycerine take care.

Few diet tips - not to eat fried food items and can eat all green vegetables, moong, chana, dal, rice etc and to apply ghee over chappati and don't apply oil over chappati and to drink milk mixed with turmeric powder twice a day and if possible eat eggs on alternate days and if possible in breakfast eat atleast one bajra ka rotla and eat seasonal fruit.
