I took tobacco since last 20. Years , so my teeth got dark brown. Now what should I do to became natural white teeth.

Dentist, Delhi
Chances of getting your teeth completely white are less. But you will improve the shades of teeth. 1. Quit the habit 2. Get your teeth professionally cleaned 3. Bleaching can be done (depending upon your requirement)

I had injure on inner side of my lip from past 4 days what should I do to reduce it.

Dentist, Bangalore
If it is an injury due to a fall, lip biting, or a sharp object, apply an anesthetic/antiseptic oral gel over the injury, avoid very spicy and hot food. It will slowly heal.

According to your history and site of pain, there are chances that 1) your wisdom tooth is causing pain 2) some decayed tooth is causing pain 3) gum infection may be there 4) if nothing from above than consult ent specialist as soon as possible.

Sir I have white spot on my front teeth. It is so disgusting for me. Will you pls say some tips for removing my white spot. Pls gve me an immediate rply for me.

oral implantology, BDS
Dentist, Jaipur
White spot is mostly caused by dentinal fluorosis. There is no way to remove it ither than doing a filling or fixing a veneer over it. You can think for a crownnif the yooth is little weak.

Hello sir my teeth pain when I drink cold water and eating anything cold so please give me a reason why?

MDS Endodontist
Dentist, Agra
Its because your tooth migth be carious and cavity formation might have occured. Better go to clinician for tooth check up so that the carious lesion do not reach deeper to pulp. With tooth restoration the problem ll be solved.

Avoid excess of cold drinks, choclates, sweets for better healthy teeth.

Dentist, Visakhapatnam
Hello As per your query, I have a few confirmations before i can decide what best can be done for you. 1) Are your other teeth strong? If yes. Never plan to remove them. 2) If you are a diabetic, plan for a fixed replacement therapy such as implants, bridges etc, and not dentures( though fixed replacement is a tad expensive). 3) Trusting a dental clinic is your choice . But have trust in the correct treatment plan and your dentist. . Wish you great health and happiness. Love your teeth. Value them as diamonds. Donot lose them. Have regular checkups to keep them healthy.

I think a couple of my teeth look like they have cavity. A small black spot which is almost negligible though. Is there any way to heal them without going to a dentist clinic

Dentist, Asansol
Hello, As you said , some of your teeth have cavity. Teeth with cavity can be restored easily with suitable filling material. . But for that you need to visit your dentist. But once you leave that cavity as it is, you may have pain and sensitivity in the future. So to avoid all such complications you should immediately get you teeth restored.

My wife (50 yrs) requires implantation of certain teeth. Doctor suggests various methods of implantation and quoting alarming charges. Pl guide me the best and cost effective one. Also tell me any dental insurance scheme available? I am from Madurai (TN) and a retired person.

Master of Clinical Dentistry, Bachelor of Dental Surgery
Dentist, Mumbai
Implants are costly but the best replacement for missing teeth as they closely mimic natural teeth. If not, other alternatives include fixed crowns and bridges, but they may not be possible to place in every patient. Consult your dentist for the same.

I am getting blood in my teeth, sometimes during brush time and during eating. What should i do? Please advise.

Dentist, Jamshedpur
Bleeding is due to gum disease known as gingivitis with plaque deposition. Scaling is the best option for plaque removal. Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash three times a day after each meal. Keep your mouth clean.

All About Wisdom Teeth

All About Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are known to be the final molars to grow out and they complete the set of permanent teeth. They generally start to erupt during the late teens or in the beginning of twenties.

In case of some people, there is a possibility that the wisdom teeth may never erupt, while others may even grow four and more wisdom teeth.

Do all wisdom teeth create dental problems?
No, if a wisdom tooth has completely erupted through the gum and tissue, without actually harming the teeth next to it, it does not require to be extracted. But, this is only if the individual is able to clean and brush it thoroughly. The wisdom teeth should be properly examined and dental care is necessary to prevent any complications.

When do wisdom teeth need extraction?
Proper oral care of the teeth will keep them healthy and clean. But there may arise a situation, in which the removal of the wisdom teeth is quite necessary:

1. In certain cases, the wisdom tooth may erupt at a weird angle, compromising the teeth next to it. This may make it difficult to clean the teeth thoroughly, thus resulting in the onset of bacterial growth and periodontal disease. In this case, the wisdom teeth should be removed as soon as possible.

2. While the wisdom teeth grows out, it may happen that there is not enough space for it to grow properly. As a result the adjacent teeth may face pressure due to crowded teeth, leading to headaches, toothaches and jaw pain. It is best that the wisdom teeth is extracted in this situation.

3. In case a wisdom tooth develops a cavity, it should be extracted.

4. An impacted wisdom tooth, that is, if it has only partially grown out of the tissue, should also be extracted before it can cause serious complications.

You can exercise for healthier gums as well
You can exercise for healthier gums as well. Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continously. This exercise will stimulate the flow of blood and will keep your gums healthy.

Drinking a cup of tea everyday is healthy for the teeth and gums as it contains high amounts of flouride and flavonoids which prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the teeth.

What are the best home remedies for an extreme tooth pain? I really can't control it.

Dentist, Batala
Tooth pain is such a state in which it is very important to visit dentist, because he can tell you the reason behind it and proper treatment also. For home remedies you can do warm saline rinses and if possible clove oil dressing in the cavity can give you temporary relief.

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person.

I am having bad breath for the past two months. Brushing after every meal but not much relief. Please advise remedy.

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
General Physician, Bangalore
Firstly see whether you have a breathing problem with a nasal obstruction. Especially at night. Sleeping with mouth open can be a common cause for bad breath. That apart, sinusitis can also contribute to bad breath. If one snores with the mouth open that is another cause. Tonsillar sepsis can be one more. Dental sepsis can cause the bad breath. Identifying causes will go a long way in treating the problem.
