It could be due to cervical spondylosis this is quite a common condition rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days do neck & back (spine) exercises use of cervical collar will give you relief. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take you will need other supportive medicines also. Do reply back for private consultation and detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. Dear , I am Dr. Saseendar, specialist orthopaedic surgeon from chennai. Is the pain deep in your hip joint region? or is it in your buttocks? have you ever had pain in multiple joints earlier? if the pain is in your hip joint, then it can be due to age related wear and tear of your hip joint, otherwise called osteoarthritis. Kindly get an x ray of your hips and post here.

I actually a titanium plate in my left thigh, the operation was in nov 2006. I do not have any problem though, and at the time of operation too the doctors said there is no need to take out the plate. Should I care about it?

Fellowship in Shoulder and Knee Surgeries, DNB (Orthopedics), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS

It's better to remove plate in young people after fracture heals. It's not possible many times to remove implants after 10 years. So forget about it now. Most of the times, there are no problems.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your knee pain could be due to certain reasons but common ones are chondromalacia, pain due to knee instability, inflammation etc. If there is no history of any injury, and no s/s of inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness or local warmth on touch, then I will like to advise you for conservative management initially in form of: - intensive physical therapy with focus on strengthening of quadriceps and stretching of other group of muscles - gentle anti inflammatory medications like tab etoshine or tab paracetamol can be taken in small doses for 5-7 days - adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation as per requirement - ice packs at home for 3-4 times in a day and see how it goes for around 2 weeks time. If your condition does not improve, then we will have to get certain investigations done. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Hello lybrate-user, please try to reduce your mother's weight. Knee joint is a weight bearing joint, so more weight cause more strain over it. As your mother is of 60 yrs, degenerative changes might have set in. Please try to take calcium supplement and if swelling is there, it should come down first. If no swelling and pain is tolerable try doing knee exercise. And drink lot of water.
