I had a PFT and result is small airway obstruction disease. What is it? Is it curable? Is it asthma?
Hi Lybrate-user Small airway obstruction may be early sign of asthma. It indicates that your lung airways are slightly narrow. As a consequence of it you may have cough and breathing difficulty. It is not serious and can easily be controlled by treatment.

I am 23 years old. I have allergy from dust and oil smoke. Please tell me what should I do ?

MS - ENT,MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Kolkata
Dust allergy is partly genetic and partly environmental. Thus it never goes away. With better ,less dusty environment  the extent if the problem gets reduced. Medicines help to downregulate the immune response of your body to these environmental allergens. Long term lifestyle  changes with gradually tapering medication  helps to tackle chronic sinus problems.  Start taking Steam inhalation twice a day. *For chronic allergic rhinosinusitis you will need to take a long term course of antibiotics  together  with Nasal sprays . *You will need to avoid dusty environment  and dust mites, animal dander etc. Regular cleaning of AC air filters. Wearing mask while driving 2 wheelers/working in dusty  areas Medical  management  is done for 3 months and then patients  condition is reviewed.  Intermittent treatment is not beneficial  in the long run. Around 30 %of people with allergic rhinitis  will develop Asthma if not treated .But majority of patients with asthma are allergic to dust .Active treatment  of nasal allergy reduces Asthma attacks and medicine requirements. This improve  quality of life .allergens.

Sir, I am smoking daily. But last 8 days I didn't smoke. Because of dog bite. I put 0th, 3rd and 7th day rabies injection. So I didn't take cigarette last 8 days. Now can I take cigarette? Please advise,

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear lybrate-user I rather shall encourage you to quit smoking. Dog bite or any bite. Smoking has no impact on getting infected by rabies virus. But you must watch for the offending dog. If it is alive after 10 days it had bitten you. For all practicality the dog doesn't have rabies.

First find out yourself what foods cause allergy to you. You are the best judge. Then rule out these from your menu. Some herbs which strengthen the immunity and do blood purification and detoxification, help to control allergy when taken for few weeks as per directions.

Hi take ginger tea mixed with 2-3 crushed garlic cloves. Massaging the chest with warm sesame oil mixed with salt helps to loosen the phlegm deposited in the chest, especially, when followed with steam inhalation. Take shwas kuthar ras twice a day. Pranacharya asthamin capsule 1-1 twice a day. And pranacharya shwas vikarasav 2-2 tsf twice a day. 1-1 drop of cow ghee in both nostrils at night time before sleep. Take hot water steam.

My father has an asthma. What is the effect the effect of using an asthma preventer for long term?

Doctor of Medicine
General Physician, Surat
If this is the clinical condition of severe illness of asthma then it has to be managed with medicine then no question arises for side effect because disease effects would be much more danger than the side effects of medicines and it is not the criteria for anything

I have allergy from dust so what should I do and give some advice for preventing this allergy.

MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Aurangabad
Household dust is a mixture of many materials. Dust may contain tiny fibers shed from different fabrics as well as tiny particles of food, plant and insect parts, mold and fungus spores, dander from pet dogs or cats, or feathers from birds. Dust also contains many microscopic mites and their waste products. The waste products of dust mites — not the mites themselves — are what cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Throughout its short life span, a single dust mite may produce as much as 200 times its body weight in waste products. Dust mite waste contains a protein that is an allergen. An allergen is a substance that provokes an allergic reaction. Homoeopathy can cure such allergy.
