I have back pain from 3 days am crying with pain day and night. Please advice me?
Back pain can result from bad posture, a sudden jerky movement, a lumpy mattress or poor lifting techniques. It can also be caused by injury in a work place, by a sports accident or by muscular spasms. There are also many diseases and pathological conditions that can lead to back pain. These include abdominal or pelvic disease, anxiety, arthritis, cervical or lumbar spondylosis, dermatological problems, kidney disease, rheumatic conditions, tumours and scoliosis. Our modern, sedentary lifestyles have a profound effect on the development of back pain; indeed one of the most effective ways of preventing it is simply to stay active. An average adult in the India spends at least two hours a day in front of a computer screen or television set, and back problems can be triggered if they don’t sit properly. In an age of mobile phones and computer games, such troubles are increasingly inflicting children of school age as well. Top tips for back care: For back pain, better to see your Doctor sooner than later. Take regular exercise – your Doctor can say what’s right for you. Hours in one position can cause problems – avoid computer ‘hump’. During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and take frequent breaks. Adjust car seats and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch. Pace yourself with heavy work such as gardening – don’t risk a disc! Avoid strain when lifting, particularly small children and shopping. Your bed could be part of the problem. Seek Doctor advice on choosing a new one. Take a hot bath or shower, soaking in a hot tub, or using a heating pad, hot water bottle, or heat wrap that provides continuous, low-level heat are all ways to bring healing warmth to your lower back.

WHAT IS BACK PAIN?

Most back pain is simple back pain (or backache), pain that is linked to the way in which the bones, ligaments and muscles of the back work together.

This is usually pain that:

  • Occurs as a result of lifting, bending or straining .
  • Comes and goes .
  • Most often affects the lower back .
  • Does not usually signify and permanent damage.
  • Some back pain is linked to NERVE ROOT pain.

This is much less common that simple back pain and accounts for about 5% of back pain cases. Nerve root pain is usually caused by compression  of the start of a nerve as it leaves the spinal cord. Herniated discs ( commonly, but incorrectly, called slipped discs) are one cause of nerve root pain.

SYMPTOMS OF BACK PAIN

Pain itself is a very subjective feeling and its perceived severity is highly influenced by personal opinion and the circumstances under which itoccurs.

The symptoms of back pain can vary hugely from one person to the next.

They include:·

  • Aching·
  • Stiffness·
  • Numbness·
  • Weakness·
  • Tingling (pins and needles).

Coughing or sneezing can often make back pain much worse by causing the muscles of the back to go into painful spasm. The pain may start in your back but may travel elsewhere. It often goes into the buttocks, but may go further down the leg and even into the foot.

If pain gets really bad, or lasts for a long time, you may experience:·

  • Difficulty passing urine.
  • Difficulty sleeping.
  • Sexual problems.
  • Depression.

OSTEOPATHY FOR BACK PAIN

Osteopathy uses the manipulation of the body and the spine to cure disease.Over half of the people who go to an osteopath do so for back pain. Osteopaths use their hands and fingers to feel the patient's body and identify damaged areas.

These areas may have a slightly different temperature or tone, or respond differently to movement than normal healthy areas of the body. Once the injured area has been found, a variety of manual techniques are used to try to correct the problem. Osteopathy usually also involves a special form of massage that helps muscles relax and lets joints move more easily.

I am a 37 yrs male. I am having pins and needles on my inner side of the right foot for the past 4 days. I am feeling like having numbness too. What should I do?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. These sensations are actually called as paresthesias and are symptoms due to nerve involvement. There are many causes, but seeing your age, I will ask you to observe it for some time, rule out diabetes, spinal origin of your symptoms. You can meanwhile initiate with physical therapy - tens for 10-14 days and see whats happening. Sometimes these maybe just due to deficiency of important vitamins like vitamin b12, b6, vitamin d etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hi the best way to correct knock knees in adults is to strengthen the knee by doing a series of exercises. Various types of exercises can be done to strengthen the knees including seated quadriceps contraction, leg strengthening exercises and hamstring curls. If you have tried exercise then you can go for corrective surgery.

But all of them including spine specialist have recommended for operation. Though my medicines are regular the situation is not improving and I am having trouble to walk properly and work. Also, find attached the prescription of few doctors and the x-ray report. Request you to kindly go through them for better understanding. Please suggest some remedy for it.
