Early Ejaculation In Men - Is It Common?

MBBS
Sexologist, Jammu
Early Ejaculation In Men - Is It Common?

Premature ejaculation is often defined as the ejaculation which is uncontrolled and takes place either prior to or just after a sexual penetration. This happens much before a person desires for an ejaculation. It can also take place with minimum stimulation and is quite unsatisfactory for both the partners. This often leads to anxiety and other problems and can affect any man at any point of his life. This is known to be the most common form of male sexual dysfunction.

Causes of Premature Ejaculation-

The particular cause of premature ejaculation is not known but it is believed to happen due to the psychological factors such as depression, guilt and anxiety. In some cases it might be related with medical cause such as side-effect of medications, injury and hormonal imbalance or problems. It is believed that with age and experience men have the capability to delay orgasm.

Symptoms of Premature Ejaculation-

One of the main and most concerned symptoms is that there is uncontrolled ejaculation prior to or shortly after the intercourse. This often takes place with minimum sexual pleasure and before a person desires.

Diagnoses of Premature Ejaculation-

The doctor usually discusses medical history along with sexual history. A thorough physical examination might be done. Doctor might want to meet or talk to the partner as well. Some lab tests might be ordered by the doctor to rule out the cause of premature ejaculation, as it can have any cause.

Treatment of Premature Ejaculation-

Many times the premature ejaculation can get better over a period of time and treatment might not be needed. Often distraction methods or relaxation techniques are helpful in delaying an ejaculation. Abstinence or lowering the use of tobacco, alcohol and some drugs might help in controlling ejaculation in some men.

Doctor might recommend you and your partner some techniques which help in delaying an ejaculation. Different positions can be tried or communicate with partner to stop or slow down the stimulation. Also, one can start identifying the sensations which build up an ejaculation. If this does not work then Behavioral therapy and counseling might help.

Aswagandha - the effective medicinal Indian herb is one of the most natural medicines perfect for treating the sexual problems in men. You can consult a doctor and have this herbal medicine as directed by the physician. This herb can increase the strength of the organs and increases the stamina and control in men. This can reduce the problem of premature ejaculation. The aphrodisiac qualities in the roots of Asparagus can help in decreasing the problem of premature ejaculation in men. You can take 1\2 to 2 teaspoons of asparagus powder or root by mixing it with a glass of milk.

Also, there are gels, creams and sprays which can be used to reduce the sensations and in turn delay the ejaculation. However, the flipside of these is that it might affect the sex partner as well by reducing their sensation as well. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Blood In Semen - What Should You Do?

MBBS
Sexologist, Jammu
Blood In Semen - What Should You Do?

Blood in semen occurs due to a variety of factors. It is also called 'hematospermia.' It mainly affects men after 30 years of age. After 50 years of age, blood in semen is caused due to prostate enlargement. Blood in semen is caused due to injuries, inflammation and blockage near the male reproductive system. Blood in semen can be linked to other diseases which might not be known by the affected person.

What can cause blood in semen?

  1. Blood in semen can be caused due to infections, tumors and stones.
  2. Abnormal body structure generally due to an autism spectrum disorder can also cause blood in semen.
  3. Prostate biopsy (removal of tissues from the prostate region which produces semen) also leads to blood in sperm sometimes. Though this is temporary and heals within three to four weeks.
  4. Vasectomy is a procedure done on men, which involves making small holes or slits in the scrotum so that the sperm doesn't flow during ejaculation. This is mainly done to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Sometimes, vasectomy causes blood in semen.
  5. It is also caused by infections such as Herpes, Chlamydia and Trichomoniasis.
  6. Sometimes, there are kidney stones found in the prostate called calculi, this is the most common reason for blood in semen.
  7. Blood in semen can also be caused due to parasitic infection, tuberculosis or chronic liver diseases.

Symptoms of blood in semen:

  1. Immense pain during ejaculation.
  2. Pain during urination.
  3. Acute lower back pain.
  4. Low to mild fever.
  5. Swelling in the scrotum and testes.
  6. Tenderness in the scrotum, testes and groin area.

Diagnosing blood in semen:

  1. While diagnosing blood in semen physical examinations are performed. The doctor checks for inflammation, swelling, tenderness and signs of injuries.
  2. Sometimes sexually transmitted diseases also cause blood in semen. So, the doctor takes a blood test to see whether you have STD's or not.
  3. Urine testing is also performed to see if any bacteria or abnormalities are found in the urine.
  4. MRIs, ultrasounds and CT scans can also locate any obstructions in the pelvic area which might be a cause of blood in semen.

Lack Of Lubrication In Women - How To Handle It?

Lack Of Lubrication In Women - How To Handle It?

Vaginal dryness can be caused due to a range of factors, including hormonal alterations, medicine side effects, psychological factors like stress and anxiety and much more. Female lubrication begins as your hormones signal your brain that you are being aroused sexually.

There is swelling in the inner and outer vaginal lips and your vulvovaginal glands start secreting fluids to help the process of penetration. But some women find it really difficult to feel wet and ready for the intercourse and experience painful intercourse before they finally lose interest in the whole act of lovemaking. Before you give up hope, ask yourself these few important questions and make the necessary changes to help yourself lubricate enough while enjoying intimate acts.

Are you too stressed out?
This is one of the most important reasons behind the lack of sexual drive in both men and women. It also occurs when you are ageing and approaching menopause. Lack of proper lubrication also takes place as your hormones rise and then fall, and you can consider meditating or performing a few yoga exercises in the morning to help your sex health.

Are you on a medication?
There are certain antibiotics and other medicines that lead to vaginal dryness as a form of a side effect and your sex health would come back to its normal state after seven days of finishing the course.

Are you hurrying too much?
It can so happen that your regular sexual activity is demanding for a longer course of foreplay, such as kissing, touching and cuddling, so that you get the time to become fully aroused. There are some erogenous spots in your body that crave for attention, and you can try a new position or a new sex toy or probably go with playful stroking and kissing all over the body to get stimulated.

Is everything about your diet alright?
Your diet mirrors how your body is going to respond to various situations. It is good to include loads of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables in your diet and curb down those sweet meats, cream coffees, fries and junk foods and drink more water. You can also consider incorporating zinc and vitamin supplements as they help in lubrication.

Thankfully, these ways of handling lubrication issues are much easier than estrogen inserts. If you are experiencing symptoms like hot flashes owing to vaginal dryness, you can go for an oral medication as prescribed by a health expert.

HIV / AIDS - Understanding The Risks!

HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a type of immune disorder which attacks the immune system of the body and slowly destroys it overtime. The HIV virus targets the immune system and makes the body susceptible to other diseases. HIV infection can progress to AIDS although it may take up to 10 or 12 years to fully go into the last stage.

Risks and Causes
HIV is a communicable disease which spreads through only the following methods

  1. It can spread from one person to another by means of unprotected sexual intercourse due to the exchange of bodily fluids.
  2. The virus spreads if you share drug needles with someone who is already contaminated with HIV virus. It can also occur due to improperly trained medical staff that may reuse syringes although this is very uncommon.
  3. The HIV virus transmits from the mother to the child during pregnancy through the placenta.
  4. Any exchange of blood in significant amounts such as blood transfusion from a contaminated patient will result in infection as well although this is very rare.

Any other form of contracting the disease such as through kissing or food is a untrue and only propagates due to ignorance.

Symptoms

  1. Severe headache along with intense pain in the muscles and the joints of the body.
  2. Frequent appearances of rashes
  3. Inflation of the lymph nodes
  4. Itchy skin
  5. Disorders which stay for sustained periods such as an upset stomach or a cold.

The early symptoms disappear within 2 to 3 weeks without any treatment. The later symptoms might appear after few years (sometimes up to or more than a decade), which will stay. This is usually the time HIV is diagnosed. The symptoms now may also include

  1. Severe muscle fatigue
  2. Severe loss in body weight,
  3. High fever and recurrent instances of sweating at the night time.

HIV is suspected if the later symptoms tend to last for a long time without any other diagnosable cause.

Treatment
HIV can be treated by means of antiretroviral therapy which reduces the rate at which the virus multiplies. However, there is no cure for HIV as of yet.

Prevention
In order to prevent yourself from getting HIV, you should adopt the following precautionary measures:

  1. You should use protection every time when engaging in sexual intercourse and if you are unsure of your partner’s HIV status.

Dyspareunia - 9 Common Reasons Behind It!

Pain during or after sexual intercourse is known as dyspareunia. Although this problem can affect men, it is more common in women. Women with dyspareunia may have pain in the vagina, clitoris or labia. There are numerous causes of dyspareunia, many of which are treatable.

Common causes include the following:

  1. Vaginal dryness
  2. Atrophic vaginitis, a common condition causing thinning of the vaginal lining in postmenopausal women
  3. Side effects of drugs such as antihistamines and tamoxifen (Nolvadex and other brands)
  4. An allergic reaction to clothing, spermicides or douches
  5. Endometriosis, an often painful condition in which tissue from the uterine lining migrates and grows abnormally inside the pelvis
  6. Inflammation of the area surrounding the vaginal opening, called vulvar vestibulitis
  7. Skin diseases, such as lichen planus and lichen sclerosus, affecting the vaginal area
  8. Urinary tract infections, vaginal yeast infections, or sexually transmitted diseases
  9. Psychological trauma, often stemming from a past history of sexual abuse or trauma.

Symptoms of Dyspareunia:
Women with dyspareunia may feel superficial pain at the entrance of the vagina or deeper pain during penetration or thrusting of the penis. Some women also may experience severe tightening of the vaginal muscles during penetration, a condition called vaginismus.

Diagnosis:
Your health practitioner will check for the following things

  1. If there was ever a time you had painless intercourse or if you have always had dyspareunia
  2. If you have enough natural lubrication and if your symptoms improve when you use commercially available lubricants
  3. About your sexual history (to help assess your risk for sexually transmitted infections)
  4. If you have ever been sexually abused or had a traumatic injury involving your genitals.

Treatment:

  1. Lubrication with an over-the-counter lubricant such as K-Y jelly.
  2. Antifungal medication(if you have any kind of fungal infection)
  3. Sitz baths for removing the inflammation
  4. For skin diseases affecting the vaginal area, lichen sclerosus and lichen planus often improve with steroid creams.
  5. Therapies include topical estrogen cream, low-dose pain medications, and physical therapy with biofeedback to lower the muscle tension in the pelvic floor
  6. Surgeries can also be prescribed for abnormal growths

For dyspareunia that has no apparent physical cause or has lasted for months or years, you may need psychological counseling to address stress or anxiety regarding sexual intercourse.
