Bloodshot Eyes - Problems It Can Cause!

Bloodshot Eyes - Problems It Can Cause!

Bloodshot eyes indicate the reddening of the eye vessels. They can cause irritation and make the eye swollen. The condition may arise due to allergies, eye infections, allergies, fatigue and other illness of the eye. It does not signify a disease but indicates an eye condition which might have caused the eye to redden. Bloodshot eyes can be encountered in one or both the eyes.

Causes of Bloodshot Eyes:

One of the frequent causes of bloodshot eyes is irritants such as dry air, pollen, pet dander, dust and UV rays of the sun. Shortage of sleep also tends to make the eyes red. Inflammations of the eye can also make them red giving a bloodshot appearance. It can even happen with people who wear contact lens for more than 16 hours without soaking it in the disinfectant. At times excessive dryness can make the eyes red. Some other reasons for the eye to become red include conjunctivitis, blepharitis, glaucoma and corneal ulcer. Another concerning reason of bloodshot eyes is a subconjunctival haemorrhage. While the latter is not dangerous in nature, it can cause significant trouble if proper care is not taken on time.

Symptoms of Red Eyes:

Some of the common signs of bloodshot eyes include watery eyes, foreign sensation, burning feeling, dermatitis, falling of eye lashes, light sensitivity, swollen eyelid, itching of the eye and feeling of irritation of the eye.

The Complications Involved:

In most of the cases, bloodshot eyes do not imply serious complications. In case it happens from conjunctivitis, a person may not be able to go to work, wear cosmetics and come in public places since it is a communicable disease. If bloodshot eyes arise from a serious condition such as glaucoma and trauma, some of the possible complications may involve the following:

  1. Eye scarring

  2. Vision loss due to complete blindness

  3. Spreading of the existing condition to other persons

  4. Eye loss in severe cases

Preventive Measures:

Bloodshot eyes might arise from an array of reasons. While it cannot be totally dodged, some general preventive measures can ensure that such a condition does not arise:

  1. Keeping hands clean by thoroughly washing them with liquid soap

  2. Not sharing personal belongings such as washcloths, linen, and cosmetics

  3. Get immediate medical attention in case of any eye injuries

  4. Stay away from an environment that is full of allergens

  5. Staying away from people who are suffering from infectious eye diseases such as conjunctivitis

  6. Taking a shower immediately after getting in touch with an infected person suffering from conjunctivitis

  7. Wearing eye glasses in a dusty environment

My eye power is increasing day by day after using glass regularly.
Let me know what to do.
There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Astigmatism: 6 Signs You Might Be Suffering From It!

MBBS, MNAMS - Ophthalmology, DNB - Ophthalmology

Astigmatism: 6 Signs You Might Be Suffering From It!

Astigmatism is a typical vision problem that occurs when the shape of the cornea is distorted due to injuries or other causes. With astigmatism, the lenses of the eye or the cornea curves. This irregular curve can change the way light refracts or passes through your retina. This causes hazy, fluffy, or twisted vision. Farsightedness and partial blindness are two different sorts of issues with the way light goes to your retina. Farsightedness is called hyperopia. Partial blindness is called astigmatism.

Types: There are two types of Astigmatisms. These are:

  1. Corneal astigmatism: It happens when your cornea itself is distorted.
  2. Lenticular astigmatism: Lenticular astigmatism happens when your lens is distorted.

Risks: Astigmatism can happen in youngsters and grown-ups. Your danger of creating astigmatism might be higher if you have any of the following:

  1. A family history of astigmatism or other eye issues like dislocation of the cornea.
  2. Scarring or diminishing of your cornea
  3. Excessive partial blindness, which makes foggy vision at a separation
  4. Excessive farsightedness, which makes hazy close-up vision
  5. A past of eye surgeries, for example, cataract surgery (surgical expulsion of a blurred focal point)

Symptoms: The side effects of astigmatism include:

  1. Hazy, Bended, Or Fluffy Vision At All Separations (Close-Up And Far Away)
  2. Trouble seeing during evening
  3. Lazy eye
  4. Squinting
  5. Irritation in the eye
  6. Cerebral Pains

Diagnosis:

  • Visual Acuity Assessment Test: Patients are required to read letters from a graph at a particular distance to decide how well they can see the letters.
  • Refraction Test: A refraction test uses a machine called an optical refractor. The machine has various remedial glass lenses that are used to read an outline while looking through lenses on the optical refractor.

Treatment:

  • Keratometry: Keratometry is a route for your specialist to measure the bend of your cornea. They will do this by taking a look at your eye through a keratometer.
  • Corrective Lenses: Remedial eyeglasses and contact lenses prescribed by a specialist are the most well-known and least obtrusive solution for astigmatism.
  • Orthokeratology: Orthokeratology is a treatment that uses contact lenses to correct the deformation and flow of your cornea. You will wear inflexible contact lenses for certain time-periods. It is easier to wear them while you are sleeping and remove them during the day.

SurgeryYour specialist may suggest refractive surgery if your case is a serious one. This kind of surgery includes use of lasers or little blades to reshape your cornea. This will correct astigmatism permanently. The three basic surgeries for astigmatism are:

  1. Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)
  2. Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)
  3. Spiral keratotomy (RK).

All these surgeries might carry some risks depending upon the symptoms of your problem. As innovation advances, it is very important for the patient to explore more options before choosing which refractive surgery is a good fit for him or her. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.

Hello. As your case is very chronic, there are very remote chances of improvement. But still would suggest you to take homoeopathic medicines which tell you as there are no side effects of these medicines! At least you can try. Take Arnica 1M and Causticum 1M - both once daily for 1 month.
