In pcos its the common problem that the follicle does not grow. That is called as anovulation. By the way pcos is not a disease and a change in the body. So there is no question in saying that it is cured. U are unmarried and do not need any treatment at present. You can take treatment once you get married. All that has happened is because of you loosing weight.

U r most probably suffering from pcod. Perods will come like this in pcod. If you take medicines, it will come regular for same period and then again same story. There is no need to take medicines to get ir regular as it will be same story again next month once you stop medicines. Mainstay of treatment of pcod is weight reduction and everything will fall in place. Primary objective of your treatment is weight reduction and maintain normal bmi of 18-25. This will regularize the monthly cycles and also help you get pregnant in future. You can take metformin to reduce weight. Also diet and jogging or brisk walk for 4-5 km daily will help. Diet should comprise of more protein (chicken, fish, pulses) low carbohydrate (rice) and low fat or oil and more vegetables.

I am 22 year old female and I have a periods problem from last 3 months. What should I do?

I am 22 year old female and I have a periods problem from last 3 months. What should I do?
A number of factors can cause this problem, such as eating disorders, significant weight loss or gain, anemia, menopause, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalance, liver disease, tuberculosis, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, recent birth or miscarriage, polycystic ovarian syndrome, uterine abnormalities, and other health conditions. Lifestyle triggers like increased exercise, smoking, alcohol abuse, caffeine, travel, stress, and certain medications and birth control pills can also contribute to this problem sesame seeds and jaggery sesame seeds are useful in regulating menstrual cycles as they help balance your hormones. They are loaded with lignans that help bind excess hormones. Plus, they contain essential fatty acids that promote optimal hormone production. Jaggery, too, helps regulate menstrual cycles due to its warming effects. 1. Dry roast a handful of sesame seeds. 2. Grind them along with one teaspoon of jaggery into a fine powder. 3. Take one teaspoon of this powder daily on an empty stomach in the luteal phase, or second half of your menstrual cycle (two weeks before your period starts), for a few months. Simply eating a piece of jaggery, also known as gur, will also help regulate menstruation. Note: do not use this remedy during your periods.

Intrauterine Device(IUD) - Are They Suitable for You?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Chandigarh
Intrauterine Device(IUD) - Are They Suitable for You?

If you are thinking of adopting one of the effective birth control measures, you can try an intrauterine device (IUD). An IUD is a small plastic device which is placed in the uterus and it helps in preventing the pregnancy. A plastic string is attached to one end for ensuring proper placement and for removal. An IUD can be removed easily and is a reversible birth control method. There are several advantages and disadvantages of using IUDs.

There are two types of IUDs which are commonly used. They are as follows:

  1. Hormonal IUDs: In case of hormonal IUDs, a small amount of progestin is released into the lining of the uterus. This hormone is similar to the progesterone hormone. This hormone helps in thickening the cervical mucus, thereby, making it difficult for the entry of sperm into the cervix. The growth of the uterine lining is slowed down, which makes fertilised eggs inhospitable.
  2. Copper IUDs: In this form of IUD, a tiny amount of copper gets released into the uterus. Sperm is prevented from entering the egg as they get immobilised on the way to the fallopian tubes.

Advantages

  1. Most women who have used this contraceptive device are satisfied with them, according to surveys.
  2. A woman using an IUD is protected from pregnancy totally and no other preventive measures such as taking a pill every day is required.
  3. These devices start working as soon as they are fitted and can easily be removed.
  4. They can be implanted in the uterus four weeks after giving birth to a baby or after an abortion.
  5. Breastfeeding is safe for women using copper IUDs.
  6. Using IUDs enables a woman to smoke cigarettes and high blood pressure is prevented.
  7. Women who use hormonal IUDs experience less blood loss during menstruation and less pain.
  8. IUDs can be used for several years.

Disadvantages

  1. IUDs are quite expensive.
  2. IUDs can only be removed by a health professional.
  3. These devices do not provide protection from any sexually transmitted disease or HIV.
  4. The insertion of IUDs can cause a genital infection in the uterus and lead to pelvic inflammatory diseases.
  5. There are chances of an IUD getting misplaced in the uterus, which may lead to pregnancy and injuries as well. The wall of the uterus may get punctured upon insertion of this device, leading to cramping, backache and excessive uterine bleeding accompanied by pain.

It is important that you must consult a doctor before thinking of getting an IUD fitted. Several screenings and tests need to be carried out before deciding upon the IUD that would work best for you.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I am 50 years old lady with weight around 79 kg. Having irregular periods with heavy flow and severe stomach pain for past 4-5 years. 2015 and past ultrasound revealed a normal size uterus having one small fibroid. Undergone dnc and biopsy (which was negative) in 2013. Doctor advised to take trapic mf 3 times a day. Another private doctor advised me to undergo hysterectomy while government doctor advised me to go through this phase considering my age it may be sign of menopause. 1. Should I take medicine or go for operation? 2. If operation, will it be laparoscopy or major operation? I had 2 caesarean operations in 1987 and 1991. I was told that due to caesarean operations it may be not be possible to do laparoscopy as some organs may be joined with uterus over the years due to the internal stitches. Any clinical test that can reveal the above fact. 3. For how many days trapic mf can be taken. My last periods lasted for 20 to 25 days and therefore had to take it for all these days. Any side effect of taking trapic mf for long? 4. Also taking homeopathic medicine for the past 4-5 years was helping me to some extent. Recently medicine was changed which finally stopped the bleeding after 20 to 25 days but the side effect is that I am feeling very sleepy and lethargy.

MBBS, MD Obs & Gynae, FNB Reproductive Medicine
Gynaecologist, Jalandhar
if pain is occurring for long time it is better to do surgery. One can try with laparoscopy and if impossible to separate bladder from uterus one can proceed with open surgery. trapic mf should not be taken for so long. homeopathic medicine is of doubtful role in relieving these kind of conditions.

Treatment For Syphilis

MBBS
Sexologist, Delhi
Treatment For Syphilis

Certain diseases are fatal, thus, proper measures must be taken to ensure that once the symptoms have been confirmed, treatment must start immediately. Syphilis is one of the most communicable sexually transmitted diseases. If left untreated, Syphilis can be fatal.

It can lead to heart disease, brain damage and blindness. A woman infected with Syphilis can also pass it on unknowingly to her baby, if she suffers from the disease during her pregnancy. Syphilis can be easily treated, but if left too late, the antibiotics that treat it cannot reverse the damage caused by Syphilis.

Syphilis can be tested by:

  • A blood test: In most cases, a simple blood test can confirm the presence of Syphilis by showing signs of the antibodies used to fight it.
  • Testing the fluid from the sores: This is usually done in the case of primary or secondary Syphilis when sores are present on the patient's skin. Looking at a scraping of the sore under a microscope can be used to diagnose Syphilis if it shows the presence of the Syphilis bacteria.
  • Testing cerebrospinal fluid: This is performed only in extreme cases of Syphilis where the disease may have caused complications with your nervous system. The earlier Syphilis is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat.

Syphilis is usually treated with antibiotics amongst which penicillin is the most preferred. If you've had Syphilis for less than a year, a single injected dose of penicillin can stop the disease from progressing. You may need additional doses if you have been suffering from Syphilis for more than a year. Penicillin is also the only antibiotic that can cure Syphilis and suits pregnant women as well. If you have been diagnosed with Syphilis during pregnancy, your baby should also be treated for it.

When undergoing treatment for Syphilis, here are a few other points to keep in mind:

  • Abstain from oral, vaginal and anal sex until the sores have healed
  • Get blood tests at regular intervals for at least a year after treatment
  • Get tested for an HIV infection
  • Fevers, nausea, headaches and chills are normal side effects associated with Syphilis treatment
  • If you are allergic to penicillin, let your doctor know so that you can be given an alternative antibiotic
  • If you have a lesion around your mouth, Syphilis can even spread through kissing another person

The good news is that once you've been cured of Syphilis, it does not recur. However, it is recommended to always use protection while having intercourse and abstain from sexual activities if your partner suffers from Syphilis.
