I twisted my left knee whine playing football. It's been more than 3 weeks now and I still feel the pain. The x ray reports show no damage to the bones or the joint.

Hi. I think in 3 weeks if it was minor injury then it should have recovered. The fact that you still have pain suggests that you might have some injury in the meniscus which needs evaluation by a sports surgeon. You might need an mri after evaluation.

Hi. Take anti inflammatory medicine (pain killers) for a week or so. Apply ice pack, tennis elbow splint and avoid sports and squeezing activities for 3 weeks. This should relieve your pain.

Hi. I think you have started very fast in jogging in 4 months time. I usually allow my patients to jog or run after 6 months of surgery and supervised rehabilitation. If you are too aggressive then you might tear the reconstructed Ligament. Body needs time to heal.

Hi. Sprinters are known to have shin pain. Please get your tibia xray done as we don't want to miss any stress fracture of Anterior tibia which may happen in late stages. You may have to give rest to your leg for a while to get complete relief.

I had undergone ACL reconstruction surgery and today (21.11.2017) is the 10th day. Presently I face the following problems. (1) Swelling &pain in the knee (mild) and swelling in the foot (mild). (2) Knuckle occurs (with a popping sound and pain) when rising up from the bed (bending the knee from a fully stretched position. The knee is also very stiff when rising up. (3) Whether knee exercises can be done in the swelled position? Kindly suggest the possible solutions.

Hi. 1) Pain will be there for some time and it will reduce gradually. Swelling over the knees and foot will take some time to go as it is the dependent edema. Keep leg elevated over pillow and apply ice pack. 2) Physiotherapy should be done as the Quadriceps are now not firing so do your Quadriceps stretching and static strengthening exercises. 3) Yes definitely you should do exercises or else swelling may remain and your muscles will get wasted.

I have a ligament tear that I am managing for more than a year. However I am putting on weight and am not sure what kind of exercise can I safely do since jogging and aerobics is not an option for me.

Hi. Depends which Ligament tear you have. Till then you can start cycling and swimming which is very good even if you have a Ligament tear. Also, get your Ligament treated too.

I have started walking and jogging recently (3 months now), I have pain in my right knee. Its not severe though. Can you suggest if I need to wear a knee strap or something during jogging as a preventive step? There are many products online but wanted to confirm what would be a good preventive step. Additional information 1. Temporarily stopping jogging is ok, long run I plan to jog regularly 2. I jog only and don't run 3. I jog outside in roads and not in treadmill with good jogging shows 4. I don't have any history of knee problems. 5. I am not looking for any medicine until its absolutely necessary. Please suggest what measures can be taken to prevent knee pain.

To be precise to your question. Pain in your knee may be due to weak Quadriceps muscles which causes weakening of cartilage of your knee cap a/k/a chondromalacia. Please don't wear any Knee cap as it will weaken your Quadriceps more. 1. Yes you can jog and take pauses in between this will help muscles to relax 2. Jogging is fine 3. In Indian roads there are a lot of bumps which might impact your knee ankle. Not a plain ground to run. 4. Don't worry this will be fine once you do Quadriceps strengthening exercises 5. No medication until you hv severe pain 6. Try doing cycling and swimming as this will strengthen your Quadriceps muscles more.

I had undergone ACL reconstruction surgery. Developed light swelling & pain on the knee on the 8th day after surgery and continued on the 9th day. Is any treatment necessary?

Hi. Swelling after ACL surgery may persist for a month or so. No need to worry much as long as you don't have any fever or redness around the wound site. Also once you have started physiotherapy swelling also increases. This should subside with leg elevation, giving rest and ice fomentation. This should help you.

Whenever I go for running, there is an acute pain in my knees. Is it normal? Or amounts to some kind of deficiency?

Hi. Acute pain in knees while running is not normal. There may be a problem in your knee cap or meniscus or any cartilage in knee joint. This has to be clinically evaluated and appropriately treated. I would also advise you to stop running as it might make the matter more worse until you get your problem evaluated.

Sir shoulder neck pain since 20 days I am taking muscle relaxant but no same pain repeats.
Hi. Have you given adequate rest to your back? As if there is a element of spasm which is present which has to be give adequate rest and muscle relaxant both required, you cannot skip either one. Once the spasm has relieved or reduces then we start with specific back strengthening exercises and postural training exercises. This relieves the problem and has less chances to recur. This if ignored may lead to future issues which are difficult to tackle. You may consider consulting on text to specify your exact problem.
