Hi Aticchanda... Sensitivity if teeth does not always require RCT...only if there is caries. Try doing this first... Massage your gums with a mixture of turmeric and salt twice daily Use homoeopathic toothpaste heklalava by wheezal. And you may consult for homoeopathic treatment proper.

Studies show that individuals who regularly eat foods containing lactic acid such as yogurt have a lower instance of gum disease. Dairy products are also a good source of calcium, which has been shown to lower the risk of gum disease also.

Jo daant bahar hote hain unhe giswana nahi chahiye. Uska ilaaj taar ke saath daant andar karna hota hai. Ap apne nazdiki Orthodontist ka pata kar sakte ho. Orthodontist woh doctor hota hai jo taar (wire) ya surgery ki madad se daanton ko ek line mein karta hai.... is ilaaj ko 2-3 saal b lag sakte hain....

Hi from few days I am feeling sensitivity in both the sides of my tooth's specially when I eat sweet I consulted dent...
Hi lybrate-user. Sorry to know your suffering sensitive teeth tooth has a layer on the top called enamel which is a protective layer preventing leakage into the layers beneath this. The next layer below this enamel is called dentine, which is a very sensitive layer. So when you say your tooth is sensitive which means that your enamel is probably missing in few areas or thin in few areas exposing the second layer which is a sensitive layer. There are few toothpastes available in the market which combat sensitive teeth. It works for few individuals. However meet your dentist to actually diagnose the problem and then go ahead with treatment. Your dentist might suggest you simple enamel fillings or any other type of treatment which is appropriate depending on the severity of your sensitivity. Tooth sensitivity can also be due to your gums shrinking and making your tooth look longer. Which would need gum treatment to be done. However get your medical records updated and mention to the dentist if you have any gastric regurgitation, which cud be the cause at times. Minimize the intake of carbonated drinks, citrus fruits, squeezing lemon to food, consumption of wine as these are the very few major culprits to dissolve the top layer of the tooth and exposing the second layer thus making your teeth sensitive. Stay away from tobacco related habits which also makes your teeth sensitive try to use soft tooth brushes to prevent unnesasary wearing of the tooth surface. Your dentist would be the right person to customize the plan which suits you the best as every individual is unique. I hope I clarified your query

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

Hai, I am 34 years old, married, woman. My problem is that my husband has bad breath. Though he never smoke nor drink...
Hello lybrate-user sorry to hear regarding this problem. Im sure it's a put off and you need to motivate your husband. Don't worry here are the reasons for bad breath bad breath or called as" halitosis" there are various reasons for bad breath. First of all update your medical history as the problem could be elsewhere in your body but will be shown as bad breath through your mouth as mouth being the gateway for your complete system. Apart from that there might be local soft or hard deposits on your teeth which can cause bad breath. This might need professional cleaning by the dentist your teeth might be not well aligned, which we call as" crowded" teeth which makes its challenging for you to keep it clean. So consult an orthodontist (specialist for braces) to align your teeth. Your health of the gums might be compromised which also leads to bad breath. Consult a periodontist for gum problems. Your teeth might have cavities where the food can get lodged and might lead to bad breath. Consult your dentist for this. Inspite of regular cleaning and brushing it might be difficult for you to get a fresh breath. As I mentioned above your dentist will tell you exactly the problem areas. Make sure you do your part well. Regular brushing of your teeth twice daily regular flossing of your teeth (which means cleaning between your teeth by means of floss) clean your tongue gently as it can harbour bacteria causing bad breath stay away from tobacco related habits consume a lot of water and stay hydrated. As dry mouth also leads to bad breath. Please do not use mouth washes if not prescribed by your dentist as they have their own side effects which would be a negative to your oral health. Pay a visit to your dentist every 6 months or earlier for routine cleaning as suggested by your dentist.

First Aid For Common Tooth Injuries

First Aid For Common Tooth Injuries

A chipped or knocked out tooth can be a very painful condition. Tooth injuries are most often caused during a sports activity or when you take a nasty fall. And such accidents can hamper your general well-being, your ability to enjoy food, your appearance and your precious smile.

Different types of tooth injuries:

  1. A minor chip: A minor tooth fracture usually involves chipping of the enamel only
  2. A major chip: A deeper fracture can involve chipping of both the enamel and the dentin of a tooth
  3. A serious fracture that exposes the nerve and blood vessels in the centre of the teeth
  4. A fully displaced teeth: Here the tooth is forced upward, downward or to the side
  5. A knocked off teeth: One that lands in your hand or shatters in the ground after impact
  6. Trauma injuries: A more serious accident that involves head, neck and facial trauma
  7. Wear and tear: Cavities or chewing and biting on hard objects like pencils, ice cubes, or hard chocolates can also lead to tooth injury
  8. Fighting the fight: When 'I'll break your teeth' ceases to be an empty threat

How are tooth fractures treated?

Treatment depends on the extent of your fractures. A knocked out teeth can be re-implanted in many cases. A permanent tooth that is re-implanted within 30 minutes has the highest chance of success. Here's what you can do to save your tooth:

  1. Collect your broken tooth: Carefully collect the tooth fragments to not cause any additional damage which may prevent re-implantation. Avoid touching the root part of the tooth. Wash it gently in lukewarm water and keep it in a small bowl of milk. Avoid scrubbing or scraping to remove dirt.
  2. Reinsert your teeth if possible: Once you rinse your teeth, try to reinsert your teeth in the cavity. This may be a painful exercise, so proceed only if you think you can bear through it. You can store it between your cheek and gum to prevent drying or in a bowl of whole milk.
  3. Take care of yourself: If there is bleeding, give your mouth a good rinse to clear off the blood that is blocking the view. Identify the source of bleeding and press in with a sterile gauze or cloth.
  4. Give yourself a treat: This is a great way to get your mind off the pain and works wonders for children. Treat yourself with an ice lolly/ frozen pop to ease out the pain. If there is any cut on your gums or lips, another equally tasty home remedy is to cover it with sugar which will temporarily stop the bleeding and the sweetness will help you to forget the pain for the time being.
  5. Go to a dentist: Even if it is a minor chip, it is always advisable to see a dentist, as the cut may be sharp and can eventually end up hurting your tongue.

Your teeth need to last your lifetime, so take good care of them, especially when faced with an injury.

How to give up chewing tobacco and pan masala. My friend was addicted and the dentist prescribed some chewing gum (not the ones available in any drugstore like nulife). The candy was blue filled in jelly like and each cost around Rs43. Accidentally I forgot the name and lost contact of her as well. She gave up everything after ten days. She was asked to chew just two gums per day. Could you please help me if you could suggest me the name of that particular gum. Thank you.

There is no quick fix or standard method of quitting smoking. However, there are several effective methods and treatments; it is up to each individual to find the one that suits them best. The "no-smoking contract" set a quit date. If it seems easier to you, you can set a quitting 'period' instead. The smoker's diary: many smokers have told us that writing a journal opened their eyes to a habit (smoking) that they thought they knew. Become a forum user and support and encourage each other. Get busy with friend who loves you and does not smoke. NICOTINE CHEWING GUM How to use nicotine gum You can take it throughout the day, or only when you are tormented by the urge to smoke. Because of its flexibility, it is especially indicated for irregular smokers. Take at least 10 pieces per day. If you feel the urge to smoke, use more gum or use either a patch or a nicotine inhaler at the same time. If you smoke fewer than 20 cigarettes per day, you can save money, cut a 4 mg chewing in 2 and use 1/2 piece at a time. Duration of treatment: From 8 weeks to 3 months. Important: For the best results, follow these chewing instructions: Slowly chew the gum: the taste appears After about 10 chews, take a pause by wedging the gum between the cheek and gum Wait until the taste is attenuated Again slowly chew the gum (gum = 30 minutes) Tips from smoking cessation specialist doctors Avoid drinking coffee or fruit juice (acid) before and while using the gum, as these drinks reduce its effectiveness. Chewing the gum too quickly releases too much nicotine, a tangy taste, a decrease in the effectiveness of the gum, hiccups, or stomach ache. Do not stop treatment prematurely as this will decrease your chances of success.

Listening to your symtoms it looks like you are developing a condition called oral submucous fibrosis. The treatment of patients with oral submucous fibrosis depends on the degree of clinical involvement. If the disease is detected at a very early stage, cessation of the habit is sufficient. Most patients with oral submucous fibrosis present with moderate-to-severe disease. Moderate-to-severe oral submucous fibrosis is irreversible. Medical treatment is symptomatic and predominantly aimed at improving mouth movements.
