I have holes (cavities) in my teeth and are very sensitive. I find difficulty in eating food. What is the remedy ? And what are its serious outcomes ?

BDS, Certification in Full Mouth Rehabilitation, Certified Implantologist
Dentist, Surat
You need to see a dentist urgently. Simple cavities can be treated with simple fillings. And if you wait for long you may have severe pain and need to under go root canal treatment or even extraction.

There are no paste or creams that can make the teeth yellow until the cause is not removed... The causes can be Chronic bleeding from the gums. Or Too much tea Smoking etc... First identify the cause and then you can have whiter teeth...

Brushing removes plaque and bits of food from the inner, outer and biting surfaces of your teeth. Here is one way to remove plaque – discuss with your dental team which is the best for you: Place the head of your toothbrush against your teeth, then tilt the bristle tips to a 45-degree angle against your gumline. Move the brush in small circular movements, several times, on all the surfaces of every tooth. Brush the outer surface of each tooth, upper and lower, keeping the bristles angled against your gumline. Do this again, but on the inside surfaces of all your teeth. To clean the inside surfaces of your front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several small, circular strokes with the front part of the brush. Brush the biting surfaces of your teeth. Brush your tongue to help freshen your breath and clean your mouth by removing bacteria. Your dental team will be able to recommend a toothbrush suitable for you. However, adults should choose a small- to medium-sized brush head. This should have soft to medium, multi-tufted, round-ended nylon bristles or 'filaments'. The head should be small enough to reach into all parts of the mouth: especially the back of the mouth where it can be difficult to reach. Children need to use smaller brushes but with the same type of filaments. You can now buy more specialised toothbrushes. For instance, people with sensitive teeth can now use softer-bristled brushes. There are also smaller-headed toothbrushes for people with crooked or irregular teeth. Some people find it difficult to hold a toothbrush, for example because they have Parkinson's disease or a physical disability. There are now toothbrushes which have large handles and angled heads to make them easier to use.

I suffer from receding gums after my first child birth. Within a span of four years after my pregnancy I have gone through one root canal and five fillings inspite of taking the best care for my teeth. Before my pregnancy, the first 26 years of my life I did not have a single cavity but now my teeth seem to spoil rapidly. Am worried.

Hello lybrate-user, Do not worry. Hormonal variation during pregnancy would have lead to some changes in your gums and mouth. Do oil pulling using pure coconut oil regularly this will help you a lot. Follow a proper brushing technique. While brushing clean your tongue, area inside your cheeks. Don't forget to massage your gums.

Dear sir, This is harsha, I have a tooth cavity which is formed to the side not in middle. That cavity formed teeth is in front of wisdom teeth. Now I consulted one doctor. She suggested me to have X Ray. I done it, from the X-ray it is evident that wisdom teeth grown horizontally inside the gum. Now she s saying need to remove wisdom teeth. And suggested root canal. My query is root canal and removing wisdom teeth necessary? Cavity filling is not sufficient?

You need to go for removal of wisdom teeth and followed by the treatment to adjacent teeth (root canal, if it pains or evidentual involvement of pulp or changes surrounding the root on x ray ). For the chances of recurrence of pain or discomfort in future, its upto you only to decide whether to go for the treatment of both the teeth or only one teeth i.e either filling or rct, thank you.

To avoid infection and reduce pain in a first-degree burn on the tongue: rinse the area well with cool water for a few minutes. Remove any dirt or particles that may be on the burn. Wet a clean cloth with cool water and hold it on top of the burn. Suck on ice chips or a popsicle to soothe the pain. Gargle with cool water or salt water. Avoid warm or hot liquids, which could irritate the burn. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Sprinkle a few grains of sugar on the tongue to relieve pain.

Diagnosis is needed first to find out the proper cause of the situation. Then after analysis of your age and other medical conditions-- proper treatment can be suggested. There is too many ways to solve the malaligned teeth. So kindly consult with a cosmetic dentist first.

I have bad breath problem. I have observed that soon after drinking milk the problem of bad breath starts. This happens even after brushing teeth and cleaning tongue. I got the regular check up and scaling done at more than 1 Dentist. Dentists don't have a clue why I have this bad breath problem.

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Noida
Bad breath has many causes, most common cause is any respiratory infection with post nasal sinusitis, second most common cause is due to Gastrointestinal issues( stomach issues),3rd one are teeth and there are many more. It looks like your bad breath is not related to your dentition. Most likely cause( with the kind of history you have written ) seems to be acidity or any other stomach problem.

Kindly consult an oral & maxillofacial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray, tmj open & closed mouth) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. Until then have soft diet. Replace posterior teeth if they are missing. Advise mouth opening exercise & side to side movement for the jaw muscles or the use of anti-inflammatory medicines and painkillers. For people who grind their teeth or clench their jaw, a bite-appliance may be made which corrects the way in which the jaw works and reduces the stresses and loads on it. This can be disposed of when normal function is restored. As oral & maxillo-facial surgeon, may be required to perform surgery on the tmj.

I am 34 yrs old male. I have Adenoid disorders from last 3 months. Please help me.

PG Hom, London, BHMS
Homeopath, Mumbai
Hi the best solution for adenoids is to surgically remove them. However if you want to avoid undergoing the knife, the best kind of treatment for you will be homeopathic. Homeopathic medicines will not only decrease the size of adenoids but also prevent the recurrence.
