Dear lybrate-user. In the give scenario, taking beer or wine is ok. As beer contains 4% alcohol, you should restrict it to one bottle. Wine is one glass. Take care.

You should attend english speaking classes, elocution classes, and public speaking courses to improve your pronunciation. There is good video material in the british council that are useful too. This is not a big deal and you can do it in a short time.

He drinks 5 beer for a month is it okay for maintaining a good health if not what all problems will he get in future and what are the solutions to reduce his drinking habit.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
Drinking alcohol regularly and heavily is associated with a number of health problems like jaundice, liver failure, vomiting blood, passing blood in stools, vitamin deficiency and seizures (fits). Other problems like accidents due to drunk driving, impaired personal relations, problems at work, etc also occur. The consumption appears to be less, however any of these above problems can occur. The best thing is to stop drinking. If you are unable to stop on your own, consult a psychiatrist with experience in deaddiciton. Medication can be prescribed to reduce craving for alcohol. You may consult me for further management if required.

Hi I am sleeping too much, more than 10 hrs. It affecting very badly on my carrier.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear, people sleep extra mainly because they have nothing serious to do. Usually an adult should sleep for 6 hours daily. Those who work less sleep less and those work more sleep more. Those who are lazy and has nothing do do productively, also sleep more. This is due to habit. Changing habit takes time and effort. Put some effort. If you are unable to do it, let me know and I shall help you. Take care.

Dear lybrate user. Lung function test may not be detecting smoking habit. But blood test may. Nicotine content in blood can be detected. You should stop smoking at least a week before blood test so that nicotine content is not detected. Take care.

I lost my dad last month. Have a 9 months old baby. I am only daughter so mother is staying with me now for sometime. I feel extremely angry most of the time and have started to react even for small small things whether it is my mother, husband or baby. Sometimes I have even hit my baby by losing patience and later realized I did wrong. My mother has schizophrenia since I was 3. Dad had bibipolar disorder when I was 20. What to do please help?

BHMS
Homeopath, Delhi
Hi you seems to be unable to cope up with the acute grief situation due to death of dad and the resulting circumstances. As the family history shows both your parents are having established psychiatric problems; which means you should be extra careful for yourself in this regard. I am suggesting you to take one dose of a homoeopathic medicine ignatia amara 1000. After 3 days you report. This medicine will help you to get better and it will not affect your baby adversely if you are breast feeding him.

One of my family member is addicted with smoking and is unable to relax. How can he quit smoking?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Whoever it is, this much is clear, whoever has the smoking habit has to want to stop the habit himself, first. Anybody else that wants to stop someone else’s habit, even if you use force, cannot succeed in the long run until the person himself wants to stop it. Now the person will want to stop the habit as soon as he has ‘Hit Rock Bottom’ when he is really ready to give it up and wants help and support. You can keep encouraging and warning him about the damage he is causing to himself and that the effects may be visible much later. Initially he needs to meet with a counselor who will encourage him to give up the habit by pointing out the imminence of ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’, and some responsive candidates respond with a serious motivation. Once that has been achieved he can be taken for detoxification either to a hospital or to a rehabilitation center and he can then follow their schedule for complete cessation. If it is not too serious, he can cope with counseling itself to sufficiently give it up.

I am 30 years old. My son is 8 years old. He behaves very aggressively even with the elders of house. I am worried because of his disrespectful nature, disobedience and foul language. Even when he is happy he finds a reason to be sad. Also does not want to study, always starts crying. His father completes his all demands but he has no value of it. I am afraid to take him along to somebody's place because he might behave rudely. please help me understand the cause for his behaviour. His grandparents also live with us. When he is in aggression he is not aware of what he is speaking.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

He definitely needs some professional help from a child psychologist. This extent of loss of control and poor behavior needs some attention. You may also know some reasons for this behavior because of any problems you encountered when you were pregnant for him or during his developmental years. You will need to check the family history to see if here are any genetic concerns to take into account too.

My brother is an alcoholic. I want to know how to go about finding the best course of action for finding a solution to this problem. Thank you.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I am very concerned that your brother has not reached what we call, ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’ as yet. To me, his Rock Bottom seems to be death if he is a heavy drinker and is completely sloshed everyday i.e. Only death can stop his addiction! Anyway do not despair as yet and you may attempt the following and see how it works: you may have tried a de-addiction center but he should not have been released if he was not ready. So in this attempt, he may be taken to another de-addiction center that is stricter and will also have follow up treatment and AA meetings for him to compulsorily attend. Ideally, your brother should want to give up alcohol himself to begin with. If not, it is going to be an uphill task and to the most part impossible. However, you should not be in want of trying. If he is unwilling to seek help, he needs to be admitted to a rehabilitation center for at least 6 months by force. If not, there are centers who will come and pick him up when he is drunk, when his resistance will be ineffective. This will require his wife's permission and written consent. After your brother returns from therapy, there will be a lot of follow-ups, both in the house and in his daily activities that must be meticulously adhered to. There is a medicine called Disulfiram, which only the doctor can prescribe, and it is very powerful that even if he attempts to drink a small quantity, he can have serious reactions that may sometimes entail hospitalization. You have to monitor his intake of the medicine and keep a close watch on him. He also has to go for regular counseling for at least three years! Apart from his health, he will also affect the family and all his children will carry genetic factors for alcoholism. If he is into business or working, he will soon not be able to continue and he will go into financial ruin. He will lose all his friends and become ostracized by his society. He will lose his dignity, self-esteem, self-confidence, and become a misfit. He will also lose his sexual capacity, liver function, heart function, kidney etc. These are all elements of the Rock Bottom concept. T will be difficult since he has become addicted to alcohol for some time and has a lot to do. The consumption of Antabuse has to be carefully monitored to see that he not only consumes the medication but is also avoiding alcohol. Ultimately, it is his will power and the support that he receives from the medical fraternity and his close and dear ones. He must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course take a look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide him on several measures and precautions he will need to take to stay with his resolve. Even after the rehabilitation he must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. The family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. He cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to his drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. The children, and whoever else is there, will also have to attend meetings to work out their issues because of the father’s habit. In fact, they are all suffering from the Adult Children Of Alcoholics Syndrome (ACOAs), which in effect means that people are genetically predisposed to alcoholism or can have cross addiction problems and that you will have similar traits of the abusing alcoholic but in a milder form. There are special support groups for them all over the world. Should they touch or indulge in alcohol or any addictive substances or behaviors, they could also become full-fledged addicts themselves. Now you should not give up on him but neither should you harass him. Be continuously after him and in the end, you will succeed. His medical condition warrants a very strict course of action. He needs to identify why you needs to drink, and go back into his childhood to find out other influences on his personality that makes him prone to addiction. Meet with an addiction counselor and work with them to sort out this drive. The simplest thing to do is to do some other interesting activity during the evening times. Meet his oral needs with some other non-intoxicating drink like soups, juices, and sodas with lime, etc. If you think that he will find it very difficult, then admit yourself to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit yourself into a de-addiction center and stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional.

Please tell me how to improve my memory power. I am in a big trouble only because of this. It seems as if one hour for me is equal to three hours. Please help me out. Thanks!

M.Sc - Psychotherapy

Memory power can be increased by repetition and recollection. Remove all tensions and worries and keep your mind calm when you study. Focus on what you study and understand. Then close your book and recollect what you studied. Write down several times. By this way you can increase your memory.

Hi, Take homoeopathic medicine for increasing memory - Anacardium 200/ once daily. Management: -Meditate for at least 15 to 30 minutes each day physically changes your brain, making you less anxious, and more rational and empathetic. -Besides increasing your physical strength and flexibility, yoga changes your brain. Research suggests that in addition to reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, yoga protects the brain from shrinking with age. -Exercise daily as it would can help offset the cognitive decline brought on by aging and increasingly sedentary lifestyles. -Get enough sleep. On average, adults need between 7.5 and 9 hours of sleep each night. When you aren’t getting enough sleep, it affects your brain’s ability to do this, and your memory suffers. -Spend time with people whose company you enjoy, and who make you feel like the best version of you. -laughter can improve short-term memory in older adults. -Cutting down on your use of technology (i. E. Sitting in front of your computer, phone, or tablet) for even 30 minutes can improve your brain health and help you think more deeply.

Make Sure You Will Be Available At All Times For Your Wife

Make Sure You Will Be Available At All Times For Your Wife

From a husband's point of view 'A Happy Wife Means a Happy Life'. To keep most women happy is giving them unconditional love and support. If a husband wants to love his wife unconditionally, he should always be sure that her emotional tank is full. One of the best ways to do that is to affirm her constantly, let her know by words and actions that you value her, respect her and lover her.

For ages a husband's role has been that of a provider and protector. Men earn money to support the family and women would take care of home and children.

In the present scenario, most husband and wife are equally qualified but still women are and will always be mothers too, so they can never be free from the responsibilities of taking care of home and above all taking care of their children. While carry out all these responsibilities, her own goals and dreams take a back seat.

Give her the confidence: When a wife is handling various roles, her husband's support is very important for her to succeed. A husband supporting his wife through all phases also gives a very positive message to their children it indirectly evokes extreme confidence in them throughout their life.

Support her: A husband needs to give his wife confidence that you can do it and I will help you do it. Be it in taking care of children, progressing in career, adjusting with the in-laws and small or big things men should encourage and support their wives achieve happiness.

Treat her as an equal: Husband and wife in marriage are meant to be equal partners. Both need to work as a team in order to have a successful family. Though husbands and wives have different skills and characteristics, each of them contributes to the success of a happy home.

Make her feel special: Helping her in her responsibilities or small actions to make her feel special are enough. These give her the reassurance that you are around.

Be there when times are difficult: The best is when you there to sort out her problems and to make things easier for her. Be there to support her in times of stress. It could be work, family or a personal issue, handle it together.

I am suffering from chronic depression from my child hood. Is there any cure for this? Medicines having side affects ...
Medicines are having side effects. In compulsory situation only we go for medicine. Up to that you are not go medicine it is good. There is a curability with psychotherapy, psychological counselling, cognitive behaviour modification therapy, relaxation therapy. Better to consult a good psychologist in hyderabad. Or please come to vijayawada I will help to you. Psychological counselling there is no side effects. It helps to modify your personality. It improves your life style management. It is always good to you. But the expert in psychology is needed very much. Do not be alone. Better to share your feelings and problems to your close friends and family members. Be sociable all the time. Be positive. Do not think too much about the depression. Today everyone is under depression. In this case no need of any medicine. So better to take the help of the good psychologist. Ok all the best.

I am not memorising well and I am only thinking negative things. Can you suggest me what to do?

I suspect that the adolescent issues with regard to hormones may be affecting your ability to concentrate and remember. When the hormones play up, it lasts for a period of close to two years and during that time you could be influenced by three signs directly impacted by the chemical: you will tend to become aggressive and rebellious, you will become sexually active, and you will have acne and pimple problems. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. I suggest online counseling and" effective learning" techniques. Take care.
