Heavy periods, also called menorrhagia, is when a woman loses an excessive amount of blood during consecutive periods. In most cases, no underlying cause of heavy periods is identified. However, some conditions and treatments have been linked to menorrhagia, including: ? uterine fibroids ? intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUDs) ? anticoagulant medication ? polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) ? he cause of the problem may sometimes need to be investigated further. This will usually involve having a pelvic examination. A blood test may also sometimes be recommended to check for anaemia (iron deficiency). ? If a cause is still not found, then you may have an ultrasound scan Treating heavy periods In some cases, heavy periods do not need to be treated, as they can be a natural variation and may not disrupt your lifestyle. If treatment is necessary, medication is most commonly used first. However, it may take a while to find the medication most suitable for you, as their effectiveness is different for everyone and some also act as contraceptives.

Hi lybrate-user, taking abortion pill without doctor's supervision is very dangerous as it may rupture uterus. It would be better if you visit local gynaecologist for examination and further treatment.

It is because of hormonal imbalance. Take Pituitarinum 30 one dose now, 2nd dose tomorrow morning and 3rd dose tomorrow night. This will start getting reduced. Continue this for 3 weeks. If you do not get desired results please let me know. I will guide you further. Take care. :) And start eating some oily and fatty food such as ghee, butter, etc.

See if your partner is healthy and sound with out any infection then there is not fear of getting infection but you must be infection free too. If you want to pregnant you wife then talk openly with her and move to have checks up tests for any std and hiv so you could make sexual relation freely with out any fear. Wish you good health.

Yes. She is at a risk of getting pregnant on the 18 day of her cycle. Even precum can contain enough sperms to cause pregnancy.

6 Advantages of Radiology

DNB (Radio Diagnosis), MBBS
Radiologist, Hyderabad
6 Advantages of Radiology

Radiology is a specialized branch of science concerned with the treatment and diagnosis of diseases through high energy radiation or X-rays. Interventional radiology also known as vascular radiology is a subspecialty of radiology. Interventional radiology involves the use of a variety of techniques for diagnosing or treating a particular disease. Some of these techniques are Ultrasound, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and X-ray among the others.

Radiology has several advantages. Six prime advantages of Radiology are mentioned below:

  1. Radiology and Interventional radiology are sometimes completely non-invasive or less invasive methods of diagnosis and treatment. These diagnostic and treatment procedures involve the use of digital imaging or photographic images and needle insertion.
  2. Radiology is a less expensive method of treatment as compared to other surgical or medicinal treatment procedures.
  3. Blood vessel diseases like narrowing of arteries, which obstructs smooth flow of the blood, hemorrhage, blood clots and vein blockage can be easily treated with the help of radiology.
  4. Radiology can effectively treat benign or malignant tumors. It destroys the tumor in situ (original position of growth) and also counters tumors that has spread to other parts of the body due to metastasis( the process through which cancer cells spread from its original position to the other organs of the body).
  5. The procedure of radiology can also be used for inserting feeding tube into a patient's body or for the purpose of draining out fluids from the abdominal region or chest.
  6. Radiology is considered to be a popular treatment for treating different stone diseases such as kidney stones or gallstones.

All radiological procedures are conducted by or under the supervision of experienced specialists known as Radiologists.

General Physician,
In Vitro Fertilization is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) commonly referred to as IVF. IVF is the process of fertilization by extracting eggs, retrieving a sperm sample, and then manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. The embryo (s) is then transferred to the uterus. When a sufficient number of the woman's follicles are mature, a transvaginal ultrasound-guided egg retrieval (egg aspiration) procedure is performed to remove the eggs from the follicles. At our IVF clinic, the average duration of the egg retrieval procedure is under 10 minutes, with a range of about 2-15 minutes.

Hi my age is 25 and my height is 5'4" and weight 80kgs before the time of periods my body was swelling is there any problem?

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
No, it is called water retention, take less salt and more potassium rich fruits like oranges, lemon water to increase the urine output, retention will not be felt, avoid fats also as fats too require lots of water to get digested and some water is retained by the body. Reduce weight by good diet + exercise, it will indirectly help you to remain healthy with no water retention and no swellings.

Hello- 10 home remedies to beat pain during your periods Suffering from cramps during those days of the month? Ditch those painkiller, try something natural instead. Why do periods hurt so much? Menstrual cramps are caused due to the shedding of the inner lining of the uterine wall. This shedding is assisted by a host of hormones, the master being ‘prostaglandins’. Where there is pain there are prostaglandins! This hormone is also prominent during delivery. It is responsible for pushing the lining of the uterus out. Apart from all the hormonal action, the poor uterus is devoid of blood, therefore the muscle spasms. In severe cases this condition is called Dysmenorrhea. Now that we know why we suffer from menstrual cramps, here are some tips to help relieve the discomfort: Keep up the exercise: It is important that you continue with gentle exercise during your periods. It helps by releasing beta-endorphins, which are internal Opioids — your own ‘human morphine’. It is natural to feel bloated before your periods, if you reduce your salt intake a few days before your periods it will help your kidneys flush out excess water. You can also try these 4 yoga poses to beat pain during periods. Remedy #1: A great pain reliever is the wild yam (Ratalu), its antispasmodic qualities help make the pain that much more bearable. Remedy #2: Raspberry leaf or jasmine flavored green tea work wonders in calming the body and mind. Remedy #3: Include a glass of milk in your breakfast. Calcium is a good cure for cramps. If you are not such a ‘milk’ person or are lactose intolerant about 600mg (2-4 tablets) of calcium chewables should do the trick. Remedy #4: Have generous helpings of papaya during and before your periods. Papaya contains ‘papain’ an enzyme that helps to regulate and helps to ease the flow during menstruation. Remedy #5: Carrots are not only good for your eyes; they also assist in regulating menstruation. A tall glass of carrot juice can go a long way in making you feel much better. Remedy #6: Aloe vera juice with honey is also well known to ease the flow and reducing the pain. Remedy#7: Avoid red meat and caffeine. They have properties that exacerbate the pain. Remedy #8: Have a hot shower. Concentrate the flow of water on your back and abdomen. A hot water bag also helps to relieve discomfort. Remedy #9: Applying lavender oil around your stomach is known to help relieving cramps in just 10 to 15 mins. Remedy #10: Just remember to be kind to yourself – relax, read a book, listen to some soft music or chat up with friends. If you feel happy and rejuvenated, your mind will help you fight physical pain.

I don't have a stable mind. I cannot decide between 2 things and I feel sad almost all time. There's no satisfaction in anything I do. And I am very much addicted to my phone. please advice.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
It is good that you have realized at young age that you do not have a stable mind, it is your problem and you are going to solve it minus medicines or doctors. May be you are surrounded by too many relatives and friends, try to be a loner for few days, go for long walks all alone, you will be able to take a decision better, but make sure about difficult decisions taken after giving maximum trials are not to be reverted back, come what may, some kind of emotional abuse / lure of money to walk on easier path. The person who gives a chance to others/ self to reform but fails has got only one option - to reform self by taking 1 decision at a time and work hard to make it a success to reassure self. Good luck, do write back.

If you have not hurt your abdomen and the baby is still moving and you don't have any discharge from vagina then it is unlikely that your baby will have any problem. Still it is best to meet your doc asap.
