Can a nephrotic syndrome child take salt in food? Is it harmful for him? How can nephrotic syndrome be cured?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Hello. A child with nephrotic syndrome should not be given extra salt in diet other than that is added in gould during preparation. That means he should curtail intake of pickles, papad. Once a child has recovered from swelling, normal diet can be resumed. Nephrotic syndrome can be cured by use of steroids under pediatricians guidance.

1. Stop asking her not to do so. Shes not doing by her will 2. Try to find any stressor 3. Get an urine examination done to rule out any infection 4. Ask ur child to urinate before she sleeps and wake her up after 4-5 hrs of sleep for urination 5. Consult a pediatrician

Stop or decrease solid foods, particularly if baby is younger than 6 months. Most solids foods have fewer calories and nutrients than breastmilk, plus they tend to replace (rather than add to) the higher-calorie, more nutritious breastmilk. Sleep close to your baby (this increases prolactin and frequency of nursing). Learn baby massage — this has been proven to improve digestion and weight gain. Carry baby throughout the day in a baby carrier; get as much skin to skin contact as you can. Both of these things have been shown to improve weight gain. Nurse often – at least every 2 hours during the day and at least once at night. Frequent nursing increases baby’s milk intake. Make sure you’re allowing your baby to completely finish one side before you offer the other by waiting upon her cues that she is finished; i.e. Pulling off herself and looking satisfied, going to sleep, changing from an active suck/swallow to more of a pacifier suck, etc. Always OFFER the second side, but don’t worry if she doesn’t seem to need it. It’s much more important that she be allowed to completely finish one side than that she nurse both sides. By doing so she will be assured of reaching enough of the richer, more caloric hindmilk that helps her to go longer between feedings. Use breast massage and breast compression during breastfeeding. If you’re pumping, use hands on pumping techniques. Pump or hand express for a couple of minutes before nursing. This will remove some of the foremilk so that your baby receives more of the richer, higher calorie hindmilk. If supplements are medically indicated, breastmilk is preferred over formula as a supplement (exceptions to this are rare), and the average fat/calorie content of mom’s milk is higher than that of formula. Mom can pump for 5-10 minutes after nursing (don’t interrupt or shorten the nursing session to do this), and offer this higher-fat hindmilk to baby as needed. This is also an option for moms who normally offer expressed milk when they are separated from baby. Stop or decrease solid foods, particularly if baby is younger than 6 months. Most solids foods have fewer calories and nutrients than breastmilk, plus they tend to replace (rather than add to) the higher-calorie, more nutritious breastmilk. Hello Dr. Mere Abhi 10 din hue he operation se ladki hue he to muje kya dhyan rakhna pdega khane me or care krne me.
Hello Mam congratulations for your daughter. Secondly as a Dietician I would recommend you to please take care of yours as well as of the child. Please avoid nibbling coz you may feel like eating something frequently but avoid that. Instead take a proper diet.

Sir, I have twin (Boy & Girl) born on 2.5. 2015. Both of them have raised the habit of putting two hand fingers in their mouth for sleeping. If we make finger of their out, they start crying loudly. How such habit (putting fingers in mouth) stop / change?

It's normal in that age and they are preparing themselves for self feeding. It's called hand to mouth coordination.

How To Detox Kids Consuming Lot Of Junk Food?

BSc - Home Science, Diploma In Health & Nutrition, MSc - Dietitics/Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi

Every time a child consumes junk food, his immune system is weakened. Junk foods disrupt the growth of a child physically and mentally. For e.g. sugar weakens the immunity, brain cells and destroys the gut. It also feeds bad bacteria, which can overcome the good bacteria.

Since kids are young, their bodies are capable of healing itself if the right conditions are provided. They needn’t undergo any rigid detox plans or cleanse. Even simple changes in their eating habits go a long way such as:

1. GET THEM ON TRACK WITH HYDRATION:-

Water is the simplest way to detox. Getting their bodies hydrated ensures proper functioning of eliminatory organs and maintains an alkaline pH. Add a slice of lemon to their water and you further enhance its detoxing power. Junk foods are also dehydrating in a way so consuming water helps.

2. GET THEM TO EAT RAW FOODS:-

Every time your child eats fruits or vegetables, their system gets into detox mode. Encourage more of raw foods in your child’s diet like soaked nuts, seeds, fruits, salads, and veggie juices. Explore recipes that revolve around raw food like cacao almond milkshake with dates or a  colourful fruit platter and let your children help in making these foods.

3. ADD FIBRE TO THEIR DIET

Nothing  clogs up our gut like junk food. This can lead to constipation and a buildup of toxins within the gut, which is the most important detox organ of our body. Design meals and snacks around fibrous foods like hummus with carrot and cucumber sticks, green moong pancakes, grated carrot with honey yogurt dressing, mashed pea patties, mixed bean salad and watermelon chunks with crushed nuts/seeds.

4. ENCOURAGE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Sweating is another way through which the body gets rid of toxins. Keep their video games out of sight and make them play outdoors. It could be running, walking, jumping up and down, playing in the garden, skating, badminton, football, skipping, cycling, etc. Playing also helps in stimulating lymphatic drainage and developing better cognitive function in them, so it’s a win-win situation.
