I have crak on my teeth and my age is just 19 years old then what you say I need to change it or just stay with it.

MDS, BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
Crack in the tooth is not normal. So get a xray done and make sure that you get it treated so that it shouldn't get worst. I think dentist will advice for root canal therapy and a cap for that tooth. So get it done and avoid bone loss in that tooth region.

Hard, and sticky food should be avoided, and try to take juices and very soft food that you do not need to chew, and swallow it readily, but that also should be nutritious.

I have a severe wisdom tooth pain. What should I do so that I can feel better. Any home remedies?

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
You can use. Clove oil to relieve pain as home remedy. But it usually doesn't help for long. Kind advise would be to get yourself checked and take medications for the same. If it still persists. Then get an xray done check for angulation of tooth.

I am 69yr old male. My tooth (3-6) was removed due to vertical crack. Now should I go for Implant or Bridge? Compare benefits. Also tell me the cost of both the procedures.

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer

here is the comparison To replace lost teeth, you can either get a dental bridge or you can rely on dental implants. Do you know the benefits and disadvantages of each option? One of the biggest benefits of dental implants is that they protect the other teeth. In the case of a dental bridge, the natural teeth have to perform the function of support. The implant is not putting any strain on other teeth. Another great advantage of implants is that they can be used to replace more than one missing natural tooth. In the case of a bridge, a dentist will need healthy adjacent teeth for support. Various combinations are possible in the case of implants. The dentist can replace a single missing tooth or a denture. Implants require little maintenance. This is one of the biggest differences between this option and dental bridges. High quality implants can last a lifetime. Dental crowns and bridges will have to be replaced every 10 to 15 years. If you are considering implants, you should take in consideration another important advantage – implants are easier to maintain. The cleaning process is very simple and flossing between implants is possible. In addition, implants look more natural and facilitate chewing, since the dental bridge may slip. Dental bridges, on the other hand, come with a number of advantages, as well. To get a bridge, you will have to undergo a simple dental procedure that involves no surgery. In order to be placed in the mouth, dental implants require surgical intervention. It is easier and quicker to get dental bridges. The entire procedure will visit in approximately two to three visits to your dentists. A dental bridge is recommended in the case of jaw bone loss or significant damage. The process will be simpler, less painful and less expensive in such instances. It is important to know that the positioning of dental implants demands healthy bone. Once fixed, the bridge is very stable. It will provide for effortless chewing of food and it will feel comfortable, once you get familiar with it. Dental bridges are also a less expensive option than other dental methods for the replacement of missing teeth. Knowing these factors will help you make an informed decision about dental implants and bridges. Each option has its advantages that need to be compared for an informed decision to be made.

I am 66, male having acute pain in teeth. Can I remove all teeth and is it possible to implant entire denture? I am diabetic.

MDS

Dear Sir, Extraction is the last solution!! Our First Aim is to preserve the natural tooth if it is structurally sound. Diabetic person needs some special precautions and practices to maintain the ORAL Health. In a diabetic person extraction can be done under proper supervision.

Cleaning Your Tongue - How & Why

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Cleaning Your Tongue - How & Why

While the mouth has the maximum amount of bacteria in the body, the highest concentration of bacteria in the mouth is on the tongue. It is therefore important to keep a clean tongue to avoid dental issues, starting from plaque formation to severe dental and oral infections.

Why clean the tongue: Before talking about how to go about keeping the tongue clean, let us look at why it should be done.

  1. Tongue cleaning is one of the main steps to maintaining a good oral hygiene.
  2. The bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease reside on the tongue, and cleaning it can remove the bacteria and therefore reduce tooth decay and gum disease.
  3. The bad odour produced by decay and gum disease can be avoided.
  4. Detoxifies the body - it is believed that toxin accumulation happens on the tongue, so daily cleaning helps detoxify the body.
  5. A cleaner tongue exposes the taste buds, thereby improving the perception of taste.
  6. Stimulate various other organs -The tongue has like pressure points that connect to various other body parts, and cleaning it helps stimulate these. The tip of the tongue activates the heart; the sides are connected to the spleen, liver, and gallbladder; so on and so forth.
  7. Cleaner looking tongue - Various food habits tend to give a color to the tongue. Caffeine, for instance, produces a yellow coating, which can be removed by regular brushing.

Choosing a tongue cleaner: Decide on the material and the type of the instrument. Either a plastic or metal or silicone cleaner will do the job equally well. In ancient times, gold or copper scrapers were used as it was believed to be good for health. Pick one of the three -tongue scrapers, tongue cleaners, or tongue brushes. All three are equally effective in cleaning the tongue of the bacteria. If required, motorized tongue cleaners are also available.

Technique:

  • Timing: Good to do it first thing in the morning. Overnight, there is a thick coating of bacteria on the tongue, and therefore cleaning the tongue in the morning is a good habit.
  • Swish warm water: Begin with swishing your mouth with warm water, which loosens up the microbial film and thereby making it easier to remove.
  • Scraping/Cleaning: Extend your tongue and start from the back of the tongue, as far back as possible without gagging. Toothpaste can be used on the scraper or cleaner if required. With slow, sweeping strokes, clean all the way to the front and then sideways.
  • Duration: It is good practice to brush the tongue for about 90 seconds per day.

Tongue cleaning is a simple and effective way to maintain oral and general health. If you wish to discuss about any specific dental problem, you can consult a specialized dentist and ask a free question.

You need to go see a dentist. If your problem can be treated by scaling itself there will be no need for extraction or bridges/implants. Your problem can be treated by a simple procedure called splinting.

Mouthwashes

MDS, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), BDS

Mouthwashes
There is a general opinion that mouthwashes can be used regularly just like tooth-brushing. Its advisable to use mouthwashes only when suggested by your dentist rather than using routinely. Kindly consult your dentist for more details regarding the same.

I have problem of gum bleeding. My one teeth in jaw is already become loose because of this problem. Food particles accumulates around the cheavable area.

BDS

Get yourself checked by dentist. If your tooth can be saved then you need to go for gum series and splinting. If it cannot be saved then get it extracted and replaced. Also get your teeth professionally cleaned to improve your gum health.
