I am a 21 years old male and I am smoking cigarettes (1 pack a day) from past 4 years and marijuana (3 joints) from 1.5 years. My mental state is perfect till now but I fear ow long will I leave this obsession. Marijuana I know is somewhat beneficial also but when it comes to smoking cigarette habit I fear about my future. Some problems I face are gastric and coughing a lot. Please show me the optimal path from here.

Hello lybrate-user, your problem might be frustrating for you. I would suggest talk more with your mother/ sister/ cousin sister then how much you talk at the moment. Etablish an eye-contact when you do so. Once when you feel you're doing good at having a conversation with your mother/sister/cousin sister and are able to hold it for long, then, you might not find it so hard to speak with other females. You can also try deep breathing before talking with a girl. Take 3 deep breaths before you go to talk to them. I hope this helps you.

I am 65, male suffering from too much of anxiety. The other day when I went to board a train to go to Guruvayur, someone stopped me and started enquiring about my journey, claiming to be policemen. They let me off, when my wife, who was coming far back, came and questioned as to what is going on. The duo said that there were bad elements, out to deceive passengers of their belongings and so they called me to warn me to be careful. After this I am afraid to going to the station to board any train. This kind of fear occurs often and I keep imagining about some bad situation, blow it out of proportion and make not only myself miserable but others around me. Several times I have been confronted by people in railway station, bus stand, etc. Like this and duped of money and valuable and this has left a deep impression leading to awful anxiety. How to overcome this?

Dear, these type of problem and negative thoughts are due to obsessive thoughts. Obsessive thoughts are common for everyone. But for everyone, these thoughts happen for a certain amount of time, say 24 hours. Then, they recover mainly because they get themselves busy in some other areas of their life. That is what you have to do. Get yourself engaged in some other areas of life. Take care.

I am sure you are another one of those who has not combined medication with counseling. Please seek the help fo a counselor and learn some specific coping skills and techniques to support the medical effects. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

When you work time. Better to eat chicklets. Eat small tiffins. Middle of the time take some fruits. Eat small meal to reduce tension. Talk with your collegues. Develop friendly nature of work. Better to develop smiling nature in work. Be relaxed after work time with your wife. Do not smoke regularly. Slowly avoid the number of cigarettes. Drinking red wine is good for health.
