Cataract - How to Reduce Your Risk?

Cataract - How to Reduce Your Risk?

We all have only a pair of eyes, so it is imperative that one understands the importance of vision. When the normally clear lens of one’s eye becomes clouded, the condition is known as cataract. A person suffering from cataract finds his vision to be hazy, discoloured and blurred somewhat like looking outside a frosted window. It causes difficulty in reading, driving a vehicle or seeing the familiar expression on a loved one’s face.
It is a silent killer of vision and initially magnification and lighting in addition to vision aids are helpful, but eventually a surgery becomes imminent.

The exact reason for cataract are debatable, but one can take measures to protect oneself, boost one’s eyes’ defence mechanisms, and protect them from harmful elements. Ultra violet (UV) light has been correlated with incidents of cataract and has a damaging effect on one’s eyes. This requires one to wear sunglasses that block ultraviolet B (UVB) rays when one is outdoors. Smoking also increases the risk of cataract thus giving one another reason to stay away from active as well as passive smoking.

One must include antioxidants as zeaxanthin, vitamin C, lutein and vitamin A in daily diet to counteract with the daily damage. The addition of a variety of fruits and vegetables to one’s diet ensures that one is getting many vitamins and nutrients. The health of the eyes can be maintained with fruits and vegetables as they have many antioxidants. One must go for eye examination to ophthalmologists in a time bound and regular manner so to detect the onset of cataract at the earliest.

One must maintain a healthy weight by reducing the calorie intake. Excessive consumption of alcohol also increases the risk of cataract. If one is suffering with other health conditions like hypertension and diabetes, it becomes all the more important that one must follow the treatment plan diligently. The exposure to ionizing radiation like X-rays and cancer treatment via chemotherapy increase the risk of cataract.

Cataract develops when aging or injury changes the tissue that makes up one’s eye's lens while some cataract are due to inherited genetic disorders causing other health problems. In some cases eye conditions, medical conditions such as diabetes, long term usage of steroids, trauma or past eye surgery also leads to cataracts.

As one ages, the eye lenses become less flexible, less transparent and thicker. Ageing causes break down and clumping together of tissues within the eye lens leading to clouding small areas within the lens. As the cataract continues to develop, the clouding becomes denser and involves a greater part of the lens. Thus, although one cannot prevent cataract, but if one takes the above mentioned steps, then he can reduce the risks of getting it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.

My cousin has a squint right eye .she is 26 years old. Is there any exercise to correct her eye ball.

My cousin has a squint right eye .she is 26 years old. Is there any exercise to correct her eye ball.
The extent or degree of squint is important. Also, if it is recent or is there from childhood. It can be corrected by surgery, if appearance is a concern. Generally, no exercise can correct it.

How to proceed my body eye each and every part liver etc wii be strong and Help to process.
Eat healthy and exercise daily - join a gym. Your diet must include a glass of juice (any juice), fresh fruits and a full serving of salads at every meal: cucumber, tomato, carrot, beetroot, radish, onion slices or spring onion, raw cauliflower, cabbage leaf, sprouted seeds etc. Add other greens I hv not mentioned. All this is essential to give you a balanced nutrient boost. Cut out any junk food and aerated drinks totally. Generally foods that come out of a packet, or tin can, or bottle shud be avoided. Exercise to increase circulation:- 2 mins of hard exercise then 1 min rest - do this four times a day. You can either do it all in one go or split it into sessions through the day. In total it is only 12 mins a day so should not be a big issue. A very useful exercise is to jump in one place simulating skipping. Build up your time to 2 mins. Of jumping. The benefits of this is ungaugeable, and cannot be explained medically as yet, it effects the entire body. In conclusion, live and eat healthy and you will develop energy, a glowing skin and a healthy'go' in life -regardless of age. In todays urban atmosphere, exercise indoors unless you live in rural areas or in the hills. Otherwise buy electrical air purifiers, put it on full and exercise in front of it.

Yellow Eyes since 1 year indicates many problems and some of the important ones are 1. Liver diseases such as jaundice, hepatitis and cirrhosis 2.Pterygium is a growth on the cornea (the clear front window of the eye) and the conjunctiva , the thin, filmy membrane that covers the white part of your eye (sclera). This growth is noncancerous and is fairly common. It is a triangular-shaped growth of fleshy tissue on the white of the eye that eventually extends over the cornea. This growth may remain small or grow large enough to interfere with vision. A pterygium can often develop from a pinguecula. Some pterygia may become red and swollen on occasion, and some may become large or thick, making you feel like you have something in your eye. If a pterygium is large enough, it can actually affect the shape of the cornea’s surface, leading to astigmatism. 3.Pinguecula is also a growth on the cornea (the clear front window of the eye) and the conjunctiva , the thin, filmy membrane that covers the white part of your eye (sclera). This is Non-Cancerous. It is a yellowish patch or bump on the conjunctiva, near the cornea. It most often appears on the side of the eye closest to the nose. It is a change in the normal tissue that results in a deposit of protein, fat and/or calcium. It is similar to a callus on the skin It is not entirely clear what causes pterygia and pinguecula to develop. Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun is believed to be a factor in the development of these growths. Other factors believed to cause pterygia and pingueculae are dry eye and environmental elements such as wind and dust. My suggestion for you is to 1.Go for Blood tests empty stomach for CBC,THYROID PROFILE,LIPID PROFILE,LFT 2.Consult an Eye Specialist for a physical examination to rule out Pterygium and Pinguecula

I sit in front of pc 10 hrs in a day. Can I get a assistance from you that how can I be look after my eyes and shoulder?
The solution for this problem is its reduced usage and while using computor use in proper light. There is nothing more effective than controlling usage to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the computor screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of computor usage or take frequent breaks and do neck stretching exercises for 2-3 minutes. Homoeopathic medicine CINELUBE EYE DROPS ( HAPDCO) Pour 2 drops 3 times daily.

Hello 1. I am paediatric ophthalmologist and deals with lazy eye patients 2. As this is an open question so your reporst ahve not reached me. You have to ask private question to send me reports 3. There is no surgery for lazy eye 4. Patching is only solution. We can replace it with atropine if patching does not suit the child 5. Treatment is of long duration.

Apple is a miracle fruit for the skin. The alpha hydroxy acids or AHA’s present in apples improves skin color and elasticity of the skin.Soak peeled apple slices in milk for 20 minutes and then blend to form a creamy paste.Place in the freezer for 10 minutes, and then mix a tsp of lemon juice, apply all over your face and neck.Rinse off after 15 minutes with cool water and massage an ice cube. The skin looks baby soft, smooth with a rosy white glow.Follow this for a week to get fair skin naturally. or All the natural ingredients (Tretinoin, Hydroquinone and Cortisone) inlcuded in Melamet have only one goal: to improve your skin tone. Tretinoin helps prevent and treat acne and wrinkles by peeling off dead skin cells. Hydroquinone is the skin lightener agent in this equation that improves the overall tone of your skin. Cortisone is an anti-allergy ingredient that reduces inflammation and/or itching.' How to Use: Use the Melamet Cream just before bedtime. Meibomianitis - 8 Things That Can Trigger It!

Ophthalmologist
Ophthalmologist, Thane
Meibomianitis - 8 Things That Can Trigger It!

In order to see clearly, the eyes need to be constantly lubricated. This function is performed by small glands located in the eyelids known as meibomian glands. These glands secrete oil onto the surface of the cornea through tiny openings on them. Malfunctioning of this gland can create an excessive amount of oil.

When oil accumulates on the eyelids, it encourages the bacteria present in the eye and the skin around it to multiply leading to inflammation. This condition is known as meibomianitis. Adults are at a higher risk of suffering from this condition as compared to children.

Some of the factors that could trigger meibomianitis are:

  1. Allergic reactions
  2. Fluctuation of hormones associated with puberty and adolescence
  3. Acne and other skin conditions
  4. Lice or mites on the eyelashes
  5. Unsanitary contact lens solution
  6. Contaminated eye makeup
  7. Certain medications such as isotretinoin for acne that increases bacteria on the eyelids
  8. However, in some cases, a clear trigger factor may not be identifiable.

Some of the characteristic symptoms of this disease are:

  1. Dry eyes
  2. Constant watering from the eyes
  3. Inflammation and reddening of the eyelids
  4. Burning sensation in the eyes
  5. Itchiness
  6. Flaking of skin around the infected eye
  7. Heightened sensitivity to light
  8. Excessive blinking
  9. Crusting of eyelashes
  10. Blurred vision
  11. Frequent formation of sties
  12. Loss of eyelashes or abnormal growth of eyelashes

Regular cleaning of the eyes with warm water and abstaining from the use of contact lenses and eye makeup can help reduce irritation and manage the inflammation. Additionally, the doctor may also prescribe antibiotics or steroids in the form of pills, eye creams or drops. Artificial tears may also be recommended to patients exhibiting dry eye symptoms. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.
