She may be able to reduce medicine when BP is less than 120, both can be taken when needed, keep checking BP weekly or so.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Have plenty of oral fluids including 8-10 glasses of water per day - have a well balanced diet with mire of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins & healthy fats -add a pinch of salt to every meal before consuming it - do regular exercise like walking jogging, moderate weight lifting which increases blood circulation in the body, have adequate water & salt after wards to compensate for the loss - raise your leg end while sleeping & sitting if possible - record BP if lower than 90/60 mm of Hg then consult a doctor to find the cause & proper management.

My husband is detected with high bp. Initial reading was at 150/90 when he was put under medication of Nexovas 10 mg. He is just 33 years of age and does regular strength and cardio exercise. He wanted to reduce his BP with proper diet and exercise so he stopped taking tablet after 1 week and increased his exercise and switched to low sodium diet. His BP came down to 120. After 7-10 days he got fever and dizziness so went to general physician who mentioned his bp has gone upto 150. He was asked to do lipid profile test and detected with high LDI cholesterol of 140.6. The general physician put him under HH Rosu 10 mg to reduce LDI. Since he has consulted another doctor earlier for BP he went back to him to take his opinion on medication and show him lipid test. He asked to stop HH ROSU and put him under 80 mg Azilsartan Medoxomil 80 mg. We are totally confused what is good for him and what he should continue. We want his bp to control without any side effect of high dose medication. Suggest.

Hi, Our targets for BP should be <140/90 most of the time. You can try life style modification but if your BP remains higher than targets, Then we should use medicines, which should be on regular basis. Initially we can use one medicine if not controlled by one drug, we can add other drug or increase the dose of 1st one. For LDL of 140, we can wait and try to control it with lifestyle modifications without medicines. But If LDL is associated with other disease like Diabetes or Coronary Artery Disease we should use medicines.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user Do take care of your diet and restrict fat intake. Start regular walking and weight reduction. A cholesterol lowering medications can wait until a repeat check after 2 months considering rest of the reports are normal. Do not bother about Hs CRP. It is a test that can be elevated due to various other reasons other than risk to the heart. It is considered a predictor for heart disease if associated other risk factors are also present, but never in isolation.

Hello. Since the past one week, I have been having a recurring breathing difficulty specifically at night. It has happened 2-3 times in a week. I get an alarming feeling of breathlessness and feel uneasiness and pain the the chest area. The pain feels like a muscular one that happens if I move my neck and hand muscles. The loss of breath may last for some seconds or less than a second but the inability to take a deep breaths could last for hours.  Could you please help me in figuring out the causes and treatment? Thank you.

MD, Fellowship in Intergrative Medicine, MBBS
Integrated Medicine Specialist, Kochi
It is difficult to figure out the cause just with the history given. Go to your Dr. and get a cbc blood work, chest x ray and an ECG just for ruling out any structural disease .There is no need to panic. More details needed like stress levels at home / work / college etc. I hope you are sleeping well on a comfortable bed and properly positioned body. Do not watch any scary movies before going to bed. All these symptoms may be part of an anxiety problem also.

Dear, To control & maintan BP normal these are best methods to follow:.• Do physical exercise like jogging, running or brisk walk for atleast 20-30 minutes. • Maintain your cholesterol level to normal & eat least amount of butter, cream or fatty things. • Eat less amount of pickle, salt and fast food as they contain high sodium levels. • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking. • Take less amount of caffine containing coffee, tea or cold drinks because caffine causes increase BP. • Drink 8 to 10 glass of water daily • Take 6 to 8 hrs of sleep daily. Do not take too much stress. • Do long breathing pranayams (Anulom- Vilom, Bhramari) daily for 10 - 15 minutes. It will reduce your stress level in your body. • Eat healthy diet such as green leafy vegetables, fruits. • Take 5 ml of GULAB Jal added in a glass of water daily once a day.
