Laser skin tightening is a procedure that uses laser to enhance the appearance of the skin and treat minor facial flaws. This procedure is performed with the help of two types of lasers: ablative and nonablative laser. Ablative laser is used to remove thin layers of skin, while a non-ablative laser is one which causes the growth of collagen and tightens the skin underneath.
Non-ablative laser is less invasive and requires less time to recover; although it's less effective than laser resurfacing, which is done with an ablative laser.
A laser tightening skin procedure can decrease fines lines on the face, making you look younger and giving a smooth appearance to your skin. It can also be used to treat uneven skin tone and improve your complexion, besides helping the treatment of sunburns and scars to a certain extent.
This procedure is usually used to treat:
2. Liver or age spots
3. Skin damage caused by sun rays
4. Scars caused due to accidents, chicken pox or severe acne
5. Irregular or uneven skin tone or texture
Before performing the procedure a doctor is likely to check your
1. Medical history - Doctors cross check your current and previous medical history, including medications and medical conditions.
2. Physical examination - A skin test is very common prior to perform such a surgery.
After the procedure is carried out, you may encounter initial minor problems like acne, itching, swelling or redness.
You may be advised to take medications and to avoid direct exposure to sunlight. During the procedure, a highly intense beam of light is directed on the skin. This laser beam destroys the upper layer of skin and also heats the underlying layers of epithelial cells. Resultantly, it causes the collagen fibres to shrink, thereby tightening your skin and giving you a younger appearance. Post the procedure, ice packs can be used to cool down the skin.

A burn scar on your skin does not only spoil your appearance but also hampers your self-confidence. You can undertake plastic surgery in order to eliminate burn scars and burn marks. Burn reconstruction surgery is an effective way to fix any previous or fresh burn scars. Although a burn scar cannot be totally eliminated, this surgery helps in improving basic functions and makes the scar less prominent or noticeable.
About Burn Reconstruction Surgery: There are two types of burn reconstruction surgeries. An acute burn surgery is carried out immediately after a burn injury has been inflicted. It is undertaken in a hospital by a team of surgeons who specialize in acute burn reconstruction surgeries.
A reconstructive burn surgery is usually carried out after the initial burn scar heals. Reconstructive burn surgery aims at improving both the functional appearance and the cosmetic appearance of a burn scar. This form of burn surgery incorporates the modification of the scar tissue. The treatment procedure for scar tissues requires several months to be successful. New scar contractures may appear for a long time after an injury. Facial burn scars, which cause problems with the eyes, lips, nose and cause hair loss can be rectified. Abnormally thick, white and discoloured scars can also be lightened by undergoing a burn reconstruction surgery.
Procedure: The surgical procedure for burn reconstruction surgery primarily involves scar release methods. After a tight scar has been released, the opening or incision made in the skin is repaired. Several techniques are applied for the purpose of closing the wounds. These include skin grafts and skin rearrangement or Z-plasty. Sometimes, more advanced flaps are required. This depends on the location of the scar and the desired results. Minor procedures are performed in the form of outpatient surgery, but in case of larger grafts and flaps, inpatient facility is required.
Tissue expander also plays a vital role in burn reconstruction procdure. This process stretches the skin and tissue, preparing the area for the final reconstructive procedures.
After undergoing the surgery, you must follow your surgeon's care instructions properly for effective healing. This would also enable you to have a long-term effect and improved appearance of burn scars. Follow-up appointments with your surgeon after the surgery are essential.
Before deciding on undergoing a burn reconstruction surgery, you must consult an efficient cosmetic surgeon and discuss the surgical procedure. You should know all the important facts regarding the surgery and also have an idea about the results which would be obtained. Non-surgical therapies can also be undertaken for repairing burn scars, which include scar massage, application of pressure garments and some other topical therapies.
A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical cosmetic procedure that corrects flaws in the skin above the eyes. It flattens the lines and wrinkles on the skin, tightens sagging skin that appears with advancing age and restores youthful skin. More and more people are undergoing treatment every year with a high rate of success.
Features that can be corrected with Brow Lifts
1. Sagging and horizontal eyebrows that create an expression of exhaustion
2. Deep horizontal folds on the skin of the forehead
3. Excess fatty skin that droops over the eyelids
4. Frown lines between the eyebrows
Types of brow lift and the respective procedures
1. Traditional or coronal brow lift
The patient is put under general anesthesia and an incision is made on the forehead, just below the hairline to hide the scar. The excess skin is removed and the necessary skin tissues are lifted and tightened for a smooth appearance. Finally, the incision is stitched up.
2. Endoscopic brow lift
This surgery is also done under general anesthesia but many tiny incisions are made on the scalp. An endoscope is put in through the incisions so that the area of surgery is seen on a computer screen. Other surgical instruments are used to lift the skin tissue of the forehead, reposition the eyebrows and remove all the extra skin and muscle tissue. Then, the incisions are closed with stitches.
3. Temporal incision brow lift
This procedure is done with eyelid surgery. It requires larger incisions than those of endoscopic brow lift and these cuts are made just above the temples. Then the tissues above the eyebrows are repositioned. The extra tissues between the eyebrows are also removed to flatten the frown lines.
Post-surgical care and recovery
1. You have to stop smoking and taking anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication for a few weeks before and after the surgery.
2. Using a cold compress is recommended in case of post-surgical pain. There may also be prescribed ointments that are applied on the cut.
3. Your head needs to be kept elevated when lying down for a few days.
4. You should have gauze and clean towels in case there are minor bleeds.
5. There may also be slight swelling and bruising on the non-operated areas of the face. The pain and itching sensations experienced during recovery are milder in case of traditional brow lift than in case of an endoscopic brow lift.
The surgical procedure to correct the appearance of eyelids is called blepharoplasty. The correction is done by removing extra skin, fat and muscle that makes the eyelids droop.
Eyelids start drooping when the muscles supporting your eyelids weaken as you grow older. Excess fat accumulates below and above your eyelids as a result, which leads to eye bags and droopy eyelids.
Besides making you look older than your age, droopy eyelids can also affect your vision. Blepharoplasty can improve your vision and give your eyes a polished look at the same time. Some other benefits include:
Excess deposits of fat that make eyelids look puffy are removed with the help of blepharoplasty.
Eye bags are reduced.
Drooping eyelids which end up revealing the sclera (the white part in your eyeballs) are fixed.
Fine wrinkles and excess skin around lower eyelids are corrected.
Blepharoplasty is usually combined with procedures such as skin resurfacing, face-lift or brow-lift.
Blepharoplasty, like every other surgical procedure, has certain risks, which include—
Irritated, dry eyes
Trouble closing eyes and other associated problems
Eye muscle injury
Follow-up surgery is needed
Short-term blurry vision, or in unusual cases, loss of vision
General risks associated with surgery such as blood clots, anaesthetic reactions, cardiac and other coronary problems.
Before the surgery can be scheduled, a surgeon and ophthalmologist will be consulted to record your medical history and discuss your expectations about the surgery. Then, before the procedure can begin, the following steps will be followed:
First, you will be examined physically; your doctor will test your tear ducts and take measurements of your eyelids.
Second, your eyes will be examined and your vision will be tested.
Lastly, your doctor will take photographs of your eyes which will facilitate and guide him/her through the course of the surgery.
The effects of blepharoplasty are long-lasting and the corrections are permanent. Durable sun protection of the eyes helps in maintaining the corrections made.
Although, you can get excellent results from one surgery, sometimes you may need multiple procedures to achieve the desired look.
