Hye, Thanks for the query.  There is a chance that there could be some lifestyle habit that is affecting your hormonal balance. Firstly understand that maintaining a hormonal vibrancy is more so a matter of a healthy lifestyle. No amount of supplementation will work if your lifestyle,  including your diet, exercise and stress is managed well. The following are some tips you can follow. Get enough sleep.  Maintain a healthy weight.  Stay active and exercise regularly.  Avoid unwanted stress. Avoid simple sugars like excess of white sugar, maida and cornflour. Include foods like sweet potato, eggs, potato, sorghum, yoghurt, nuts like macadamia or Brazil or almonds, olive oil, coconut oil, clarified butter, oysters, raisins, mushrooms, avocado, custard apple,  pomagranates,  onions, parsley, garlic and ginger in your diet. Avoid alcohol and smoking.

Dear Lybrate user,*If the cause lies on the scalp such as dry skin, then just hair oil application or local treatment will be sufficient to cure dandruff. If the cause lies in underlying skin disease such as psoriasis, treatment for the causative disease will be required. *Ayurvedic treatments such as shirodhara, shirobasti helps not only to relieve dandruff and improve hair quality. They also help you to relieve stress and lack of sleep (which are also cause for dandruff). *Wholesome diet and habits for Dandruff: Mango,Pomegranate, Lemon, Narikela (Coconut), Ghee, Shiro abhyanga(Application of oil to the scalp) etc *Food rich in Vitamin E and Omega 3 fatty acids help to keep the scalp in good health. Food rich in Vitamin E – Sunflower seed, almond, pine nuts, peanuts, spinach, taro root, flaxseed oil, soyabean, pistachio. Broccoli, carrots, chard, mustard and turnip greens, mangoes, nuts, papaya, pumpkin, red peppers.

Hi. It's normal to lose up to 100 hair per day, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history, use of bore water, or nutritional deficiencies. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regularly massage head and hair with coconut oil, almond oil (depending upon your scalp type) 1 to 3 times a week. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! medication: take homoeopathic medicines - schwabe's badiaga 200, wiesbaden 200 & alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Use schwabe's anti-dandruff shampoo and anti-dandruff oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use bakson's arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Beside this, you can take one tablet of multivitamin folli hair once daily for 1 month.

For a good and glowing skin, take a proper sleep, plenty of water. Do not step out in the sun, without wearing a sunscreen. Nutritious diet rich in antioxidants (green vegetables and fresh fruits) and avoidance of stress will help. A Guide To Hormone Therapy Post Hystectomy

MS- Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
A Guide To Hormone Therapy Post Hystectomy

A hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and is often accompanied by the removal of the ovaries. In such cases, women are said to experience surgical menopause. This is because the ovaries are the main producers of estrogen. Surgical menopause is usually more severe than natural menopause as there is a sudden drop in estrogen levels. Estrogen is responsible for a number of functions that affect the brain, bones, skin, heart and blood vessels.

Hormone therapy is often advised to counteract this loss of estrogen.

There are two main types of Hormonetherapy:

  1. Hormone therapy with estrogen and progestin
  2. Hormone therapy with only estrogen

The former is advisable for women suffering from surgical menopause. Like any other form of treatment, it has its pros and cons.

Pros

  1. It protects young women from diseases associated with menopause: A hysterectomy is usually performed on women under the age of 50. In such cases, Hormone replacement therapy can protect the women from heart diseases. Removing ovaries before menopause can also increase the risk of Parkinson's disease and dementia.Hormone replacement therapy can help negate these risks.
  2. Reverse menopausal symptoms: Menopause is associated with a number of symptoms such as vaginal dryness, hot flashes and insomnia. Hormone replacement therapy can help treat these symptoms and give you a better quality of life.
  3. Other health benefits: Hormone replacement therapy can also help fight osteoporosis and strengthen bones. It is also known to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

Cons

  1. Side effects: Hormone replacement therapy interferes with the natural Hormone production. Thus, it can cause a number of problems such as premenstrual syndrome, swollen breasts, headaches and nausea.
  2. Increased risk of health issues: Though the odds are low, Hormone replacement therapy can increase your risk of having a stroke or heart attack. It has also been suggestively linked to breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Thus, the choice of whether to have or not to have Hormone replacement therapy after surgical menopause is not easy to make. You must consider factors such as your age, lifestyle, family medical history and habits while making this decision. Do not rush into a decision and take your time. Talk to your doctor about the amount of medication needed and the delivery method most suited to you. Hormone replacement therapy can be taken in the form of pills, a patch, gel, vaginal cream or a slow releasing suppository. This should  also be accompanied by a healthy lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and plenty of exercise.

MY wife is a depression patient. For the last 27 years I have been suffering because she is always quarelling with me even for silly matters and cursing my brothers & sister even though they are not coming to my house. However she is very beligerent during the visit of her sisters & brothers. Of late she is highly in agitated mood and because of this I am unable to concentrate my job and often thinks why should I live in this world. She has been taking psychiatric drugs for the last 27 years. And I am at regular intervals taking her to a psychiatric doctor for treatment. Please advise me what I have to do in this respect

Hypnotherapist, DCS, BSIC, Advanced Trainee of Transactional Analysis, Advanced Skills in Counselling
Psychologist,
Drugs only reduce or remove the symptoms but the underlying cause remains. Counselling will help her to get her to manage her anger and talking more sense fully. Yet I also see that you do indulge in quarrelling with her. Both of you need to see a marriage counsellor who will help you both to put forward what you actually expect from each other and who you really are and what you can realistically do in the marriage and what you cannot/ don' t want to do in the marriage. Often married couples have expectations of each other which the other person is not even aware of. In marriage 2 people bring together their individual personalities which has evolved over the years through personal experiences, values, attitudes, culture. Beliefs and judgements which can be often very different from each others. A happy marriage stands on the pillars of mutual respect, trust and open communication. It also needs a lot of self awareness and" other" awareness to work too. Compromise, adjustments, sacrifices are some other aspects that a marriage needs for it to succeed.

I found myself depressed after not studying enough in a day? is it normal.? Or I should take some medicine.
Dear, You are not depressed, but you are stressed. Stress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our physical or mental equilibrium. In other words, it's an omnipresent part of life. A stressful event can trigger the ?fight-or-flight? response, causing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to surge through the body. A little bit of stress, known as ?acute stress,? can be exciting?it keeps us active and alert. But long-term, or ?chronic stress,? can have detrimental effects on health. You may not be able to control the stressors in your world, but you can alter your reaction to them. Please let me know the details. Take care.

4 Best Ayurvedic Remedies To Treat Gastritis!

Gastritis is a very common health issue and is faced by all all age groups. There are many factors that lead to gastritis or compound the already existing situation. Basically, gastritis is swelling of stomach lining. Spicy food, medicines, tobacco, alcohol etc. can cause or increase the gastric acid production and disturb, weaken or damage the normal stomach lining.

Gastritis is of two types:

  1. Acute gastritis, which occurs suddenly
  2. Chronic gastritis, which develops over a period of time

In India, gastritis is a very common disorder which occurs at any age but is more widespread in the adolescent age group (12-17 years).

Gastritis occurs when there is an imbalance between the acid production and damage to the stomach lining, resulting in swelling of the stomach lining. However, sometimes gastritis can cause pain in the upper part of the abdomen and may lead to stomach ulcers.

Symptoms of gastritis vary among individuals, and in many people there are even no symptoms. It also depends on the duration of disease, whether it is acute (happening suddenly) or chronic (causing symptoms over a long period of time).

The most common symptoms of acute gastritis include:

  1. Water brashes (sour fluid or tasteless saliva into the mouth)
  2. Belching (expelling air from the stomach through the mouth)
  3. Abdominal bloating or stomach fullness
  4. Upper abdominal pain or discomfort
  5. Nausea/feeling of vomiting
  6. Irregular bowel movement
  7. Recurrent indigestion

Simple natural ways to treat gastritis:

  1. Taking half a gram of long pepper powder with honey is an effective way to curb gastritis. It is advisable to take this mixture twice a day.
  2. Triphla powder is a very good Ayurvedic remedy to treat gastritis. Boil one tablespoon of Triphla powder in one glass of water, reduce it to half its content and then filter it. Consume it hot after dinner.Fennel seeds also very efficiently deals with the condition of gastritis. It is advisable to chew half a teaspoon of fennel seeds after food to keep gastritis at bay.
  3. Readily available lemon also helps relieve feeling of nausea and bloating. Having lemon juice subsides vomiting sensation and bloating.
  4. Triphla powder is a very good Ayurvedic remedy to treat gastritis. Boil one tablespoon of Triphla powder in one glass of water, reduce it to half its content and then filter it. Consume it hot 20 minutes after dinner. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.
