Aerophagia is cause of his problem. To prevent this breast feed him in upright position & burp him well after every feed. Laying baby with belly down will also help. Ensure clear airways in nostril every time you feed.

My daughter is 11 years old and is bed-wetting still now. Suggest me some ways to get rid of this.

General Physician,
You can stop giving any fluids 2 hours before sleep time and wake her in between to go to toilet. Some children are late in getting toilet control. There are medicines but have side effects.

Hii, my son is 6 years old. Bt he is very weak .not speak properly. N height wise short above others. Let me know your advice for him. Thnq.

BHMS
Homeopath, Secunderabad
Try to give him wholesome food and avoid all types of junk food (fast food, cold drinks etc). Let him play outdoor as that will stimulate hunger and natural growth. As far as the speech is concerned sometimes it may be normal and he may pick up later. Keep talking to him and let him interact with all the children in a playful and positive environment. Take an opinion of your pediatrician so that we may not miss out anything substantial. You can try Homeopathy later if needed. Homeopathy can be helpful if a proper case history is taken (based on his mind and body nature.)

Please suggest a substitute for mother's milk. My wife unable to produce sufficient milk for my son

Please suggest a substitute for mother's milk. My wife unable to produce sufficient milk for my son
Breast milk is best for the baby. Please consider if the milk is not enough or if it is just perceived to be not enough. A baby getting enough milk will sleep from 2-4 hours between feeds, generally passes 5-6 motions if under 2 months and 5-6 times urine per day. You can also get baby weighed to see if growth is adequate. If milk is not truly enough, you can use any of the popular brands of formula like nan pro, similac, enfamil etc.

Hi my son is 4 years old from last few days he is excessively crying, I think that he has problem with his digestive system whenever he takes milk he started crying after sometime please help me he is also diagnosed with canavan diseases.

MD - Homeopathy
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Intake of milk might be making him cry because he must not be liking milk. Crying usually at this age is attention seeking behaviour. Ignore at times when you think that he is crying without any reason.

Tips To Ensure Regular Sleep For Your Baby

Tips To Ensure Regular Sleep For Your Baby

When it comes to babies and their sleeping habits, you have to understand that every baby is different and has different needs. Thus, certain things that may work for one set of parents may not necessarily work for the other. Thus, here are a few tips that will ensure that your child gets ample of undisturbed sleep and stays healthy and fit:

1. Learn to distinguish when your baby starts feeling tired: Once your child starts feeling tired, he/she will definitely show specific signs that he/she requires some sleep. Some common signs  are:
a) The constant eye rubbing
b) Yawning
c)  Getting a bit fussy and cranky

Put your baby to sleep as soon as possible when he/she starts showing such signs. If your baby gets overtired, it will be all the more difficult for him to fall asleep.

2. Set a proper sleep cycle: Ensure that you set a suitable sleep cycle for your baby. Train your child to sleep during the night and play during the day. Ensure that you keep your kid busy during the day, ensuring that he/she stays awake even after a feed, so that he is tired by night time and sleeps properly all throughout the night. At night, when your child gets up for a feed, ensure that you do not turn on the lights. Instead, make sure to keep the room in semi-darkness so he/she goes back to sleep effectively.

3. Ensure that your baby is full: If your baby is hungry and has not had his fill, it will tend to disrupt his sleep. Thus, ensure that your baby is well fed before you put him to sleep. For example, if during the day you feed the child after every three hours, as evening approaches feed him every two hours. This will ensure that he is well fed before he goes to sleep.

4. Let go the burping occasionally: Babies do not avidly breastfeed at night. Thus, it is not essential that you wait for him to burp every time he feeds.

5. Give a Massage: Another way to ensure that your baby sleeps properly is to give him a good massage. A massage will help the child to relax and thus sleep better.

I am looking for the cost of recommended vaccination after the age of 5 years of a child. I am looking for injection cost for MMR2, Varicella 2 etc.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
It is difficult to mention the cost of these vaccinations. It also depends who is the vaccine supplier in your town, and which pediatrician is procuring the vaccine from whom. At 5 years, you just have to give DPT booster which is also available at every government Hospital. So also MMR2. Varicella is available at the MRP approx 1600. (Varilix)

Usually the medicine prescribed works well. But in our kind of situation with breathing difficulty and if feeding is also less, baby is drowsy or irritable, you revisit Pediatrician. The things are dynamic, the findings Pediatrician must have seen and prescribed you medicines can change many times within day or two and you might have to change medicines. Visit your Pediatrician if any of above mentioned symptoms have started.

MBBS, DNB (Pediatrics)

7.8kg at 1 year is quite low for her age. It could be plain regurgitation or something more sinister. Before coming to conclusion more information will be needed. Consult a pediatrician or u can send private questions.

My daughter is 3 and a half months. She was born on Dec 1st,14. Her weight is 5.4. As of her health she is a healthy baby. Her growth is good. She is 60 cm. But she didn't become fat at all. Ppl tell she looks like a 45 days old baby. I see other babies are very fat and healthy by this stage. I only breast feed her. No supliments. What to do to make her fat?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
You should be happy and congratulate yourself for exclusively breast feeding the child.Breast fed children gain appropriate weight. Fatty babies are usually overfed and form a launching pad for obesity in childhood and adult life. Your baby's weight 5.4 kg & length 60 cms at 3.5 month is within normal range.(Refer to IAP Growth charts for girls) Please don't make her fat you will regret in future.Instead of worrying play, talk and laugh in plenty with her. She will be confident secure adult emotionally.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Your Newborn's Skin and Rashes

A newborn's skin is prone to rashes of all sorts. Fortunately, most of these rashes are harmless and go away on their own.

Common Rashes in Newborns

Pink pimples ('neonatal acne') are sometimes thought to be caused by exposure in the womb to maternal hormones. No treatment is needed, just time. They can last for weeks or even months on a baby's skin.
Erythema toxicum is another common newborn rash. It looks like red blotches with ill-defined borders that are slightly raised, and may have a small white or yellow dot in the center. Its cause is unknown, and it resolves without treatment after a few days or weeks.
Dry, peeling skin can be seen in almost all normal babies, but is especially noticeable in babies born a little late. The underlying skin is perfectly normal, soft, and moist.
Little white bumps on the nose and face (milia) are caused by blocked oil glands. When a baby's oil glands enlarge and open up in a few days or weeks, the white bumps disappear.
Salmon patches (called a 'stork bite' at the back of the neck or an 'angel's kiss' between the eyes) are simple nests of blood vessels (probably caused by maternal hormones) that fade on their own after a few weeks or months. Occasionally, stork bites never go away.
Jaundice is a yellow coloration on baby's skin and eyes. It is caused by an excess of bilirubin (a breakdown product of red blood cells). If the bilirubin level becomes sufficiently high, blue or white lights may be focused on the baby's skin to lower the level, because excess bilirubin can sometimes pose a health hazard.
Mongolian spots are very common in any part of the body of dark-skinned babies. They are flat, gray-blue in color (almost looking like a bruise), and can be small or large. They are caused by some pigment that didn't make it to the top layer when baby's skin was being formed. They are harmless and usually fade away by school age.
