Dear Lybrate user There is no SIMPLE way to cure stress and depression. First of all, Depression is a medical illness which requires thorough investigation and understanding so that underlying cause can be treated. For stress, ideally stress management is the trick. This entails, understanding the source of your stress, identifying it, accepting it and working on methods to cope with it. I would recommend a stress management direction for you. You can begin by modifying your lifestyle (kicking any bad habits) and adopting healthy ones. This is a slow and life long process. And will not CURE stress. Instead just help cope with it.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Addiction to "cough syrup" is definitely bad. But which cough syrup are you taking is not mentioned. As there are different ingredients in different products. Most often Codeine addiction is observed (Corex cough syrup). Since sough syrups also contain a good deal of sugar, taking those is bound to give additional sugar increasing blood glucose. So please tell me which is the product. To get out of the addiction, it is better to get in touch with a psychiatrist locally and also if there is a deaddiction center near by. Because this condition can not be treated by just advising on line. Thanks.

  4. Antidepressants: In case, psychotherapy or light therapy fails to cure your SAD and the accompanied depression, you should take prescribed antidepressants. These medicines might help in overcoming your seasonal depression. Try to avoid medicines which make you feel sleepy. If you have SAD, you should take antidepressants every winter and not just during the winters when you feel the blues.

Try Nulife 2 mg (gutka flavour) or Nicotex 2 mg chewing gum first. Use parking method while using else it won't be effective. If not controlled by it then consult a psychiatrist who has experience in drug deaddiction field.

What is Depression?

Depression can strike a child at any age. A mood disorder, depression is characterized by a persistent sad or empty feeling, irritability, and a loss of interest in everyday activities. Unlike normal sadness or grieving, most bouts of depression last for weeks, months, or even years. A smaller number of children and adolescent suffer from biploar disorder-bouts of depression interspersed with periods of elevated (manic) mood (bipolar disorder).

Although depression is usually not considered life-threatening, it can lead to thoughts of and attempts at suicide.

Symptoms

  • Persistent feelings of sadness, apathy, or hopelessness lasting more than two weeks.

  • Diminished interest in most daily activities, particularly pleasurable ones.

  • Decreased appetite and subsequent weight loss; increased appetite and weight gain.

  • Lack of sleep (insomnia), frequent awakening throughout the night, or conversely, an increased need for sleep.

  • Anxiety; diminished ability to think or concentrate.

Diagnosis

Because there are no reliable laboratory tests to diagnose depression, physical examination and psychological evaluation are essential.

  • Expression of either of the first two symptoms of depression (see Symptoms box), in conjunction with other symptoms, for a period of two or more consecutive weeks.

  • A positive family history of depression or a prior depressive episode helps establish the diagnosis.

Treatment

I have fast heartbeat from past 2 days and even have a buzzing sound in my head and kind of tired also I have had cholesterol, thyroid,uric acid on level in past. Can you please suggest what might be the reason.

Hello, Thanks for the query. It is difficult to give any opinion as to why suddenly you have increased heart rate or may be palpitations. I need to know if you are having hyperthyroidism (which thyroid problem), high BP and any other cardiac condition. Unless some of the other details are known, no opinion can be given.
