How To Stop Food Craving During Weight Loss

Know the difference between real hunger and a craving: 

When you want to solve a problem you attack its roots. As mentioned earlier, hunger is your physical need, while craving is your emotional need and will die off in 10 – 15 minutes, you should never suppress hunger. But its best to suppress your craving if you are watching your weight. It is just a matter of 10 – 15 mins, then the cravings will wash off automatically.

Know the triggers: cravings are usually triggered responses. You need to know what makes you crave for a certain thing. Knowing the triggers and avoiding them can help you achieve the health goal. Ex – if you crave for sweets post lunch / dinner meals, chew on some fennel seeds / roasted sounf or chew on a sugar free gum immediately after the meals. Strong flavors of these foods will divert your mind and you will not crave.

Distract yourself: cravings are all in the mind, and hence the key to controlling them also depends on how well you distract your mind. We know that cravings don’t last long, hence when you crave for something, engage yourself in some work or call a friend or go for a walk. Don’t get into watching television. A lot of people tend to crave for food all the more while watching television.

Brush your teeth – I suggest this to a lot of my clients. And they benefit from it. If you crave for something while you are at home, it is best to brush your teeth with a minty paste. The strong taste of the paste will help you overcome all your cravings.

Don’t starve yourself: hunger can also trigger cravings. So if you are wondering about how to stop food cravings, the key is in your hand. All you need to do is eat! studies have confirmed that people who eat small frequent meals crave less for sugary foods than those who are stuck with 3 meal pattern.

Don’t skip breakfast: it is advisable that you do not skip breakfast. Consuming high fibre food with lots of liquid for breakfast will assure an energetic day ahead with no food cravings.

Get enough sleep: in a university of chicago study, researchers found that people who slept only four hours a night for two nights had an 18 percent decrease in leptin, a hormone that tells the brain there is no need for more food, and a 28 percent increase in ghrelin, a hormone that triggers hunger. This causes an increase in appetite and a preference for calorie-dense, high carbohydrate foods like potato chips, cookies, etc. So make sure you sleep well for a minimum of 6 hours at a single strech to have a healthy functioning mind and tongue.

Eat healthy food if you have craving: if you still are struggling with craving, try to go for healthy food rather than junk food. You can grab a carrot instead of french fries, eat an apple instead of a burger and have popcorn instead of potato chips.

Laser-assisted liposuction. This technique uses low-energy waves to liquefy the fat, which is removed through a small cannula.

Liposuction is usually done as an outpatient  procedure in a properly equipped doctor's office, ambulatory surgery center, or hospital. In general, it does not require an overnight hospital stay unless a large volume of fat is being removed. Local anesthesia is used in some cases. And you may or may not be given a sedative to help you relax. If a large area or volume of fat is being treated, general anesthesia or deep sedation with a local anesthetic may be used.

HI lybrate-user, When we are lean, the ratio of muscle percentage remains higher then fat percentage. And muscle needs more energy to maintain themself. If you are doing gym, you should increase your food intake. Specially, prior 1/2 hr to gym take fresh juice or fruit or any carbohydrate source and after 1/2 hour consume protein source like milk shakes, soaked seeds, dry fruits, sprouts, paneer, egg chicken etc.

There are no food items that can specifically bring about changes in your arms. Do not expect such things as there is nothing scientific about it. Invest time in healthy habits (eating healthy and balanced diet and exercising every day. Join a gym if needed ). A proper keto cycle works for 4 weeks. Lets see the diet week by week

Week 1 –

You can alternate between or choose from the below mentioned options for entire week

Breakfast

  • Cheese pakora (fried in peanut oil / coconut oil)
  • Cheesy egg omlette with lots of cheese (cooked in olive oil and butter)
  • Cheesy scrambled egg with lots of capsicum (cooked in olive oil and butter)

Lunch

  • Simple salad (spinach, capsicum, mushrooms, stir fried in olive oil and butter, sometimes with chicken, sometimes with eggs and sometimes only veggies topped with lots of cheese)
  • Cream of palak soup with stir fried mushrooms / broccoli
  • Solkadhi and baked french beans (whole) with cheese
  • Cauliflower curry in coconut milk and coconut oil
     

Dinner 

  • Baked spinach with cheese and cream
  • Lemon chicken stew
  • Fried paneer pakora
  • Stir fried mutton with spices of choice
  • Cabbage salad / cabbage thoran with coconut (kerala style veggie)

 
Week 2

In this week we introduce a special mix of coconut oil, cream and butter. All you need to do is beat these 3 ingredients together and gulp it down. I know it is hard, but you will do it if you want to lose weight. If this sounds like a torture to you, mix it up with your tea or coffee decoction. Add whatever spice it takes for your tongue to accept this. Please dont add ay sugar, you can use artificial sweeteners like stevia and sugarfree natura. This mix will help a great deal in enhancing your fat loss. Lets call this coffee mix as bullet coffee.

Breakfast 

Bullet coffee (coffee / tea mixed with coconut oil, cream and butter mix)
 

Lunch 

  • Simple salad (spinach, capsicum, mushrooms, stir fried in olive oil and butter, sometimes with chicken, sometimes with eggs and sometimes only veggies topped with lots of cheese)
  • Spiced, fried paneer pakora
  • Red channa salad
  • Lemon chicken
  • Soya nugget curry
  • Stir fried lady finger with peanuts (maharashtrian style)
     

Dinner 

  • Stir fried french beans with cheese topping / cheese fondue
  • Cauliflower cooked in coconut milk and coconut oil
  • Cream of mushroom
  • Chicken stew
  • Cheese pakora
     

Week 3 

As the weeks progresses, keto diet is going to get tougher by each passing day. Week 3 calls for a fasting stage. So we are going to eat early breakfast, no lunch and after a 12 hour fasting, we will have a fat full dinner. This is called intermittent fasting. (read more about intermittent fasting)

Breakfast 

Bullet coffee

Lunch 

Fasting, just keep on sipping water and sugar less green tea / lemon water with pepper

Dinner 

  • 6-8 soaked almonds everyday for this week
  • Chicken in pesto sauce with paneer and spinach leaves stir fried in olive oil
  • Paneer chilly
  • Chicken barbecue with spinach and cheese salad
  • Spinach egg omlette with lots of cheese
     

Week 4

It really really getting very tough now. This week you are required to eat only dinners. While fasting for the entire day. Yes you can have green teas, lemon water (with salt and pepper), green teas (without sugar), and yes lots and lots of water. If fasting this strictly seems difficult to you, you can go back to week 2 and start following from there on again.


Breakfast

  • Black tea / lemon tea / peach tea (without sugar)
  • Black coffee
  • Lunch 
  • Green tea (without sugar)
  • Lemon water (without sugar)
  • Lots and lots of water

Dinner 

  • Stir fried green beans with coconut and peanut
  • Shezuan chicken
  • Spinach cooked in milk, cream and cheese
  • Stir fried veggies with spicies and cream dressing
  • Chicken stew
  • Thai chicken
  • Lemon chicken
  • Stir fried paneer with spinach and bell pepper
  • Almond flour pancakes

Well its summer now and I think we all have put on enough weight by gorging on hot, spicy and oily food during the winter. Well it is said that winter makes people hungry, I do not know about you but it surely made me hungry and it also made me put on a few kilos. Now the main problem is to how to lose the winter fat as summer is here and of course, you want to flaunt your perfect swimsuit body on the beach, don’t you? However, the major problem is the few pounds of flesh on the love handles, which is making all the women worry to death.

Well but don’t worry because I am going to give you a few workout and diet tips, which will make your body slim and trim again.

Therefore, the first summer diet tip is cut down the food you eat and go organic. Organic in the sense means eat more of salads, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid oil, butter, ghee, paneer, cheese, and other fattening dairy products. Switch to green tea, mint tea or lemon tea, any tea is fine as long as you do not add milk to it.

The best green tea can be prepared at home and the directions are given below:

  • Boil water in a vessel
  • Add Tealeaves, Lemon Grass, Tulsi / Basil Leaves, Lemon Juice, Elaichi / Cardamon   Lavang / Clove to it.
  • Boil the tea for 10- 15 minutes
  • Strain the tea in a cup, and add Jaggery / Gur or Honey as per your wish and mix well.

This is the recipe of healthy, tasty, aromatic, homemade green tea.

Work out regularly and make sure that you hit the gym daily. Unless you work out you will not be able to lose weight.

Every morning on an empty stomach, drink a glass of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of lemon juice and honey.

This is one of the easiest ways to reduce weight.

Control your diet - Remember weight loss plan is made up of 80 % diet plan and 20 % workout plan. Therefore, you ought to control your diet. Eat a light dinner in fact you should only eat salad and soup at night. Make sure that you eat your dinner at least 2 hours before you go to sleep.

Get good sleep, if you sleep well, then the metabolism of your body will be good which will in turn help you to burn your extra calories faster.

Hence, these are some of the tips you ought to follow to reduce weight this summer.

Mix 1 tablespoon of fenugreek powder with a little water to make a thick paste. Apply the paste on your cheeks and massage gently. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with water. Follow this remedy once daily. Another option is to massage your cheeks with fenugreek oil 1 or 2 times daily.

Ask her to eat a diet which is rich in proteins like eggs, non-vegetarian food twice weekly and if she is a vegetarian, lots of pulses like black gram and rajma, fruits, paneer, tofu, dry fruits etc. She should take 6-8 dates everyday and ghur i.e jaggery after every food. One glass of lime water is also good for her. A good iron tablet or syrup alongwith multi-vitamin tab is advised for at least a month. She should improve with good diet and iron and multivitamin tablets. If she doesnot feel better after 10 days of this treatment, she should consult a physician for the same.

GAd65 antibody test is Useful For Assessing susceptibility to autoimmune (type 1, insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus and related endocrine disorders (eg, thyroiditis and pernicious anemia). Titers generally < or =0.02 nmol/L. A second islet cell antibody (IA-2) is more predictive for development of type 1 diabetes, but less frequent than glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65) antibody amongst diabetic patients. Insulin autoantibodies also serve as a marker of susceptibility to type 1 diabetes.

Dear lybrate-user, It is really sad to see your mom dementing. It is difficult for your dad or you to care for her. If you call for dementia care NGOs, like Nightingale trust, they will help you of a nursing aid, either day or night or 24 hours. There are about 5 day care and one 24 hours care home in Bangalore exclusively for people living with dementia. There are self help groups like Alzheimer disease society who meet at regular intervals, as support group for care givers like your dad and you. Please get all the information about contacting them from the internet.

To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy.  1. Start with changing your lifestyle. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. 2. Eat Healthy – Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food, pepsi, sugary stuff etc. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day.  Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of –  a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. b. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. c. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. d. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. e. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. f. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day.  g.
