Is it harmful for the eye after Cataract surgery(I.O.L.implanted) when washed with tap water (treated with chlorine, bleaching powder etc.) regularly in the morning after waking up .

MBBS, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Hyderabad
Hi, Upto 6 weeks after cataract surgery (sutured/sutureless, microincision or otherwise), it is better to avoid tap water. Subsequently the operated eye can be considered as normal.

I have a red eye problem. Little red spot is covered on my face. What should I do now.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
I have a red eye problem. Little red spot is covered on my face. What should I do now.
Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. Regarding your complains, I would want to know whether the redness is localized to one specific area in the eye or is it diffusely spread throughout the eye? also, do you take medications for any disorders like blood pressure? did you have any recent bout of sneezing/ coughing? all these questions are important because they have a role to play in causing redness in the eye. I feel it would be a better idea to see your eyes once and then decide regarding the treatment modality suitable for you. Let me know if you can get in touch via the video facility offered by lybrate. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

This condition is called Eye strain, or asthenopia, in which the eyes get tired from excessive or intense use. It can be annoying, but it tends to disappear with rest. Although it’s not often a serious condition, eye strain could be a symptom of an underlying problem. Eye strain is known to cause fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and headaches----------- Eye strain may lead to other problems, such as:---------- •Headaches--- •Difficulty Concentrating--- •Irritability--- •Burning Sensation--- •Watery Eyes--- •Dry Eyes-- •Photophobia--- •Eyesight weak---. The first thing you can do is change your environment and work habits. By doing this you can relieve the pain without spending money on treatment--------------------- If you studying or reading, taking eye breaks for five minutes every hour can lessen the strain on your eyes. Simply closing your eyes for a few moments can also do wonders. Try standing up, moving around, or taking a short walk to help regain concentration. Regular eye exercises that involve focusing on different distances can help prevent future straining. Blink often. Blinking refreshes and replenishes your eyes naturally. If you are having trouble with blinking due to the dryness of your eyes, try using Homoeopathic ------CINELUBE EYEDROPS (HAPDCO) 3 times daily.-----------Visit an Eye specialist to rule out weak eyesight---------------------

Diabetes and some of its medications) can cause dry eye. Try using some simple artificial tears (lubricants) such as zyaqua or osmodrops or tearmist eye drops. Yous hould also be using spectacles, if not do get a checkup and also get screened for diabetic retinopathy, a condition of retina which usually affects diabetic patients at some stage.

Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your father's eye problem. Diabetes and blood pressure are disorders of the blood vessels. They tend to affect most of the organs in the body including the eyes. In the eye, diabetes/ blood pressure may lead to bursting of blood vessels and subsequent bleeding into the eye. This would in turn reduce the vision of the eye. In some cases, it could be improved by surgery or injection in the eye whereas in other cases, it would be irreversible. Thus, the best guide would be a retina specialist. Take the opinion and follow the advice given by the retina specialist. Feel free to contact me for further assistance. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-

I have problem in my eye. And How can I become healthy so please tell me what should I do.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
I have problem in my eye. And How can I become healthy so please tell me what should I do.
Hello, Kindly elaborate the problem of your eye. Gaining weight is a slow process which requires patience and dedication! The food what and how you eat, makes the difference! For increasing your weight, concentrate on the below points ( if you don’t have any medical condition) which helps in gaining weight in a right way without harming your body. - Consume more healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats are full of nutrients and also high in calories, making them a great option for weight gain. Foods containing plant fats should be your first option - this includes items such as nuts, seeds, peanut butter, avocados and olive oil. Foods containing healthy animals fats include lean meats and full fat dairy products - although if you have high cholesterol, you should probably stick to low-fat options. -Eat more protein. Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish and poultry, in addition to eggs, whole grains, dairy products and legumes. -Drink more calories. Try drinking a large glass of orange juice in the mornings (along with your normal breakfast). Drink a glass or two of full-cream milk throughout the day.Protein shakes will help you to gain muscle mass, particularly if you're working out. -Have 6 small and frequent meals in a day. -Gain muscle mass. It's a good idea to continue to exercise while you attempt to gain weight the healthy way. Strength training includes working with weights and performing exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, bicep curls, crunches, chin-ups and leg curls. Just keep in mind that the more you exercise, the more calories you will need to consume to replace those you lost while working out. This is where protein shakes and bars really come in handy. -Quit smoking. As it suppresses the appetite. -Stay healthy. The most important thing through the entire weight gain process is to stay healthy - eating a balanced diet and continuing to exercise throughout. -Take enough of rest and sleep for rejuvenation of the cells and tissues. -Think Positive which will help you in achieving your target of gaining weight. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos., both thrice daily ½ an hour before meals for 1month.
