I am outlining  food you should avoid or restrict in Hypothyroidism. But you need calorie adjustment to lose weight It's important  you maintain  your body weight exercise regularly. Weight gain increases thyroid hormone requirements. Avoid cruciferous   group of veggies  like cabbage and broccoli. Avoid soya bean in all forms. No soya ,nugget, chunk, tofu or milk. Limit their intake: Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips, and bok choy. Cooking the vegetables can reduce the effect that cruciferous vegetables have on the thyroid gland. Limiting your intake to 5 ounces a day appears to have no adverse effect on thyroid function. Decrease gluten  intake from processed  food. Always try whole grain varieties of cereals which is rich in fibres and help improve  bowels (Take your thyroid replacement  medicine several hours before or several hours after food rich in fibres .Otherwise problem  with absorption  of hormone. 20 to 35 gram of fibres daily from all sources. Avoid excessive fatty (deep fried) and sugary food as hypothyroidism  causes your metabolism  to slow down &weight gain. Avoid highly salted food, chips, pickles, sauces as they contain  large amount of sodium .Hypothyroidism  puts you at risk of high BP and excess sodium in salt aggravates Coffee  in excess. And coffee with thyroid hormone  replacement  can prevent absorption. Alcohol. It is toxic to thyroid gland and prevents  hormone production and absorption. Share thyroid and vitamin D reports. Zumba/ high energy cardio can help you lose weight. Hope this helps

Hi, You can ask your mother to follow few exercises for shaping the fatty arms: -Weight lifting: You can use a 2 liter cold drink bottle or a water bottle for this exercise. If you have a pair of dumbbells at home it works out just fine. The aim is to reach out for something which weighs around one kilo. Hold that item with both your hands and lift it over your head. Your arms should be straight, as this is your starting position. Now lower the weight, by taking it behind your back. You need to reach it as low as you can. Make sure that you don’t hurt yourself. Bring up the weight above your head, again. The slower you move your arms, the more toned your arms will get. It is important to keep your upper arms close to your head and ears. Also try to practice this exercise in front of the mirror if you can, it will help you improve the style. You need to do 3 sets of 20 reps, which means you will move the item 60 items above your head. After every set you can take a rest of one minute. -Scissors: It is one of the best cardio workouts to lose weight. This exercise as mentioned in the name resembles a scissors being opened and closed. You need to begin by standing straight and lifting your arms to shoulder height, in front of you. Stretch your arms to the side and bring them back to your front, the right hand should overlap the left. This resembles an open scissors. You need to stretch them to the side again and bring them back to the front. This time your left arm should overlap your right. This is a complete rep and this exercise needs to be done in 3 sets of 10 reps every day. -Arm circles: You can hold two 600 ml water bottles in two hands while doing the arm circles. Stand with your feet placed shoulder width apart and arms extend straight to your sides, raised at shoulder height. Now, do 50 small circles with your hands by rotating them in the forward direction. Then switch to 50 small backward circles. The backward and forward arm movement tones all the muscles of the arms including the triceps, biceps, shoulders and back muscles as well.

I am losing weight and physically also since last year. I have diabetes since Last five years.
If diabetes is not well controlled, then a person can loose weight. So please take care and control the blood glucose levels. Fasting should be closer to 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. If this not achieved then one gets in to various problems including weight loss. Thanks.

Hello, If the person has T1 diabetes, then the only treatment is taking Insulin injections for lifetime. There are no oral drugs available. The reason being in these persons there is No Insulin production by Beta ells of pancreas. Since Insulin is needed for glucose, protein and fat metabolism constantly, then it has to be supplemented every day from outside. So it is said in Type 1 DM Insulin is needed for treatment and for survival of the patient. Thanks.

Several lifestyle changes may be required. Most back pain gets better with a few weeks of home treatment and careful attention. Over-the-counter pain relievers as prescribed by me may be all that you need to improve your pain. A short period of bed rest is ok, but more than a couple of days actually does more harm than good. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

You can go for urine test as well to detect sugar. Though not as accurate as blood sugar tests. Other than that diabetic sensors are also available in major cities. They are expensive. For further information about them contact me.

Is permanent treatment possible in homeopathy for hypothyroidism that no need to take lifetime medicine?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Is permanent treatment possible in homeopathy for hypothyroidism that no need to take lifetime medicine?
Mr. Lybrate-user, hypothyroidism is a condition arising due to deficiency of the hormone thyroxine produced by thyroid gland. This hormone is constantly required for development and day to day functioning of brain, plus it is essential for vital metabolic activities in the body. So there a constant need for it. Hence, it has to be supplied from outside and that too for life time. There is no other drug that can replace it. Taking thyroxine hormone is the only treatment. Thanks.

Diabetes affects all organs in the body ? Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose ? SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & lifestyle. Give all the details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take.
