Hi Doctor, I am 60 years old working person. I am diabetic since 2003. Taking Diabetic medicine - Amaryl - 3 mg, Galvus Met 50/1000 mg, Neurobion Fort including Herbal Medicines - like - Karela - Jamun Juice 30 ml, Aloevera Gel 30 ml and 2 coves of Garlic - empty stomach in the morning. Also no Sugar intakes. Using Zero calorie sweetener. Even then my FBS results are coming High between 150 - 170. Can You please advise something from your side.

This is dawn phenomenon. Or it could be somogi effect. Get blood sugar tests between 2 to 4 am if low it's somogi otherwise it's dawn phenomenon take 2 biscuits marie at midnight and see results after 2 weeks. Do brisk walk early morning on getting up before doing blood sugar fasting test. Consult again.

Hlo sir My dad is suffering from diabetes. His sugar level is around 150 (fasting) and around 240 (pp). His foot nails are very black and are brittle. Last year he was suffering from ganguering. And sometimes his fingers became unstable (sleepy fingers) Please suggest something.

He need to become aware of the importance of getting the sugar under control. Just by following simple health tips he can become better. Tell him to plan his day in advance so that he can implement healthy rules in a study manner. Diet, exercise, sleep and mental relaxation are very important for everyone including diabetes patients. He should eat only healthy food and avoid all junk and processed food. Avoid all bad habits. He can have a small meal every 3 hrs. Drink enough water 8-10 glasses of water. Have lots of salads and vegetables as they contain good nutrients but less calories. Yoga can be very beneficial as it is very safe and can be learnt at any age. From your description you have some infection in your mouth most likely a dental abscess. PLease visit the dentist to find the responsible tooth. It may also be something systemic like in your stomach. Needs clinical evaluation.

do let me know which diet (veg/non veg) you prefer? a therapeutic diet in itself can solve many of your problems. Dietary therapy prescribed by a registered dietitian is needed. Hye. Thankyou for the query. Just adding milk to diet will not help. You need to plan a good nutritious diet with proteins and other nutrients in right amount. Also since you are overweight for your height you can go for skim or toned cows milk. But again just randomly adding milk will not help. You need to work on setting a good diet.

The diet will depend on your weight and sugar levels, both are not mentioned. Any exercise that suits you is fine as long as you do it for more than 1 h every day. Ideally brisk walking 5 - 6 kms a day or light jogging if you can do it. Plus some free hand exercise and stretchings and abdominals are good. If your physical activity is low then your caloric intake has to be 20 kcal/kg/d if moderate exercise - 25 kcal/kg/d, if vigerous 30 kcal/kg/d. One should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, fruits like mango, grapes, banana, chikoos. Take lot of green salads, fruits like apple, guava, pomogranate, pear, orange etc.

You cannot target one body part in isolation. You have to work on overall toning and loss. Eat small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips. I am sure it will at least help you with initial fat loss.

Hi welcome - I advice initially you can start with a high calorie full of carbohydrate enriched with all types of proteins based foods as diet. You can add fresubin/ b-protein with milk or lukewarm water two times 20gm/time. The best way to have good quality foods & 8-9 hours sleep.

To gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.

Hello, A completely balanced weight loss diet will help you. Eat handsome servings of fresh fruits,vegetables through the day. Exercise everyday for atleast 1 hour. Eat small and frequent meals and do not starve or forceffed yourself.

Vaginal problems are very common and a little awareness can enable women to take care of this delicate region of their body. Vaginal infections are the most irritable and hurtful and lack of education on the same makes it difficult to prevent them; from burning and itching to unpleasant odour, most women have faced these infections at some point of their lives.

Here are few points you must know about to stay clear of these infections.

1. Vaginal infections: vagina contains bacteria and yeast which are good and maintain the health of the area. However, things like change in levels of hormones, poor hygiene, pregnancy, sexual contact, antibiotics, disturb the balance of health, thus causing infections. Most common types of vaginal infections are: bacterial infections, yeast infections, trichomonas vaginitis. While there exist over-the-counter cure for these infections, it is best to visit your gynecologist and get the infections diagnosed & treated.

2. Cervix inflammation: infection or inflammation in the cervix is called cervicitis. It is pretty common and is influenced by a number of factors like allergies, infections or irritations - it is important to know the cause of cervicitis because in the long run, it could pose a problem with fertility. Symptoms of cervicitis include foul smelling vaginal discharge, pain during passing urine, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding like bleeding after sexual contact or between periods. Cervicitis is treated with the help of anti-fungal medications, antibiotics and anti-viral medications depending upon the evaluation of the underlying cause.

3. Pelvic and uterine infection: infection in the uterus and pelvis is also a matter which should not be left untreated. It can present with pain lower abdomen, pain during intercourse, frequent and painful urination. The infection can be caused by various organisms which can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease which in turn can spread to the uterus, ovaries and the fallopian tubes.

Hye Thanks for the query. You can do any exercise in order to burn fats. It is important that you enjoy it and are able to manage it at least 45 minutes per session, 3-5 times a week depending on how strenuous your work out is. You can do yoga, strength training, aerobics, swimming,  jogging or even indulge in sports like football or an enjoyable activity like dance. The idea is to stay physically active. Lastly the technique of any exercise be it the seemingly simple brisk walking  is also important. And don't forget stretching and warm up before any exercise in order to avoid injuries. Losing 10 kiss of weight in a month is not ideal. Fat loss never happens so fast. If you do lose 10 kiss in a month be assured it is water and muscle loss, not so much of fat loss.
