Is there any cure of brest cancer if reports of sonomammography shows birads 6-known malignant.

Registrar in Surgical Oncology, Fellowship in Gynaecologic Oncology, Masters In Advanced Oncology, Fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery, Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Oncology, Fellowship in CRS and HIPEC, Fellowship in PIPAC
Oncologist, Mumbai
Dear Mr. lybrate-user, Mammogram is just one investigation for breast cancer. If it says malignant, then we need to do a fnac /biopsy of the lump. We also need to do a xray mammogram, a xray chest and a sonography of the abdomen and bone scan to stage the disease. If the disease is localized only to the breast and/or the axilla (armpit), it can be completely removed.

We were informed that for AML type M-4 there is no much advancement for the past 30 years. Is it true? Chemotherapy was given and the patient is stable and healthy now. Can we feel safe for about 5 years with regular check ups. The patient is 55 years old and does not have other problems such as BP, Sugar etc.

MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Hubli-Dharwad
AML M4 is difficult to treat as the treatment related toxicities are too much, if treatement is already over then we can expect good result but recurrence chances are high.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. As I understand, you have been treated for your urinary tract infection (uti) and are feeling better now. For the time being, I would advise that you upkeep your diet and lifestyle, and stay well hydrated. You can take 150 ml of fresh cranberry juice (unsweetened) twice daily for the next 2 weeks. Try including more of fresh turmeric, tomatoes and black cumin seeds in your daily diet. However, make sure to avoid sweets, carbonated drinks, alcohol, high calorie, greasy, fatty, oily and fast foods. The above-mentioned shall help both your uti as well help prevent recurrent infections of the urinary tract too. Again, you need not explicitly take medications for prostate should you not have any problems in that regard. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.

I am a prostrate cancer patient since 2008. I have gone thru Radiation in the same year in TMH Mumbai and given inj Lupride 11.25 for 3 yrs. Later remained Under routine check up every 6 months. My PSA level remained well under control. However the level of PSA started increasing in2015. Urine flow slowed down as scanty amount, painful and frequency was high. I was given RAPILIF 8 mg which is continue till date. However both bone scanning and PSMA WAS done for the reason. Bone scanning was ok but PSMA showed slightly increased area. As a matter of treatment I was given high dose ELIGUARD 43.5 every 6 month from Jan 2015. PSA is well less than 01 after injection. Still I used to take RAPILIF 8 mg. Recently I developed a new problem of leakage of urine in night wetting my pants. For this gone thru Cystoscopy at TMH in Dec 22 2016 where normal report was obtained and no medicine was given except continuing with injection ELIGUARD 43.5 mg. I am to inform you that I also developed Skin cancer in 2014 fungoides mycosis and was given phototherapy PUVA for 1 year. Almost all white patches covered up tho I am in routine check up at TMH. In past 6 months my patches started appearing once again which was duly consulted at TMH. Advised to watch for next 6 months. My CONCERN IS URINE LEAKAGE DURING SLEEP. PLEASE GIVE YOUR VALUABLE ADVICE TO STOP THE PROBLEM.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user It must be difficult to go through all this for so long. You should go and see a good urologist for the incontinence of your urine. The rest of your Radiation and other treatment has been very good. All the best!

5 Ways to Decrease The Chance of Breast Cancer

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG)

5 Ways to Decrease The Chance of Breast Cancer

While you cannot cure breast diseases, family history and maturing, but there are some hazards or risks that you can control. Keeping in mind the fact that there is no certain approach to forestall breast cancer, there are things you can do that may bring down the hazard. Here are five approaches to ensure your breast's well-being:

  1. Watch your weight: Being overweight or hefty expands breast cancer chances. This is particularly true after menopause and for women who have put on weight as grown-ups. After menopause, the vast majority of your estrogen originates from fat tissue. Having more fat tissue can heighten your chances of getting breast cancer by raising the estrogen levels. Additionally, women who are overweight have a tendency to have more elevated amounts of insulin, than other hormones. Higher insulin levels have been associated with a few tumors, including breast cancer.
  2. Exercise routinely: Many reviews have found that exercise is the sign of having a healthy breast. Studies show that one to two hours of energetic walking each week, lessened a woman’s cancer risk by eighteen percent. Walking ten hours seven days decreased the hazard all the more.
  3. Constrain liquor: Women who have two to five mixed beverages every day have a higher danger of breast cancer than women who have just one drink a day or none . As much as three to six glasses of wine seven days have been found to somewhat increase breast cancer chances. It is not clear how or why liquor raises the hazard. In any case, constraining liquor is particularly essential for women who have other hazard variables for breast cancer, like, breast cancer running in their families.
  4. Restrain time spent sitting: Research has shown that sitting time, regardless of how much exercise you get when you are not sitting, increases the probability of growing cancer, particularly for women. Women who sit six hours or more a day outside of work have a ten percent more serious risk for breast cancer compared to the ladies who sit under three hours a day, and an increased hazard for other cancer types as well.
  5. Stay away from or confine hormone substitution treatment: Hormone Replacement Treatment (HRT) was utilized frequently in the past to control night sweats, hot flashes, and other troublesome manifestations of menopause. In any case, specialists now realize that postmenopausal ladies who take a blend of estrogen and progestin might probably create breast tumors or cancer. Breast cancer disease seems to come back within five years in the wake of ceasing the blend of hormones. Therefore, get a breast cancer test even if you feel a small lump. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Prostate Cancer - Causes And Symptoms

Prostate Cancer - Causes And Symptoms

Prostate cancer is a cancerous tumor in a man’s prostate gland, a small gland that is responsible for producing the seminal fluid which transports and nourishes the sperm. It is a very common type of cancer among men. A few cases of prostate cancer tend to develop slowly while others may progress very fast.

Symptoms

In the initial stages, prostate cancer may not show any symptom. However, in the latter stages, there may be symptoms such as:

  1. Pain in the bones.

  2. Erectile dysfunction.

  3. Urination can get troublesome.

  4. Presence of blood in the semen.

  5. Pain and discomfort in the pelvic region.

Causes-

The exact causes of prostate cancer are not known. It starts to develop when certain cells in the prostate gland start to mutate. These mutations cause these cells to multiply at a very fast rate and thus, soon form tumors. Although the causes are not known, certain factors tend to aggravate this condition; them being:

  1. Color: According to certain medical reports, a darker skin may mean increased chances of suffering from prostate cancer.

  2. Age: The risk of developing prostate cancer tends to increase with age.

  3. Genetics and Family History: Faulty genes could be another cause of this condition. Also, having some member in the family who is diagnosed with this type of cancer only increases the risks of you suffering from them.

  4. Obesity: If you are obese, then you are more likely to develop prostate cancer.

Treatments-

The treatments for prostate cancer include:

  1. Radiation Therapy: In this procedure, high energy rays are used to target and destroy cancer cells. Usually X-rays or protons are used to treat the cancer cells.

  2. Hormone Therapy: Hormone therapy is a type of treatment wherein certain medications are administered to prevent your body from producing testosterone.

  3. Surgery: If the other treatment methods do not produce desired results, then a surgery is carried out for the removal of the prostate gland. In addition to the prostate gland, some adjoining lymph nodes and tissues are also removed.

  4. Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is method of destroying cancer cells by injecting chemicals into the body. The medicines are injected into the veins in the arms.

I have a lump in my left breast since 3years but the mammography doesn't show anything and the report also says that everything is normal. What it can be?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology

I have a lump in my left breast since 3years but the mammography doesn't show anything and the report also says that ...
You should get sonography of the breast as well to be more clear about the lump. Mammography may not pick up the lump sometimes. Even if sonography does not pick it up, then it is likely to be fibroadenosis which is mostly related to hormonal changes or edema because of some injury.
