I have been suffering from tonsillitis since 15 days. Accordingly, taken 5 days antibiotic and also homoeopathy. But it is still now. What I can do for it?

MS - ENT

Five days antibiotic course is inadequate to clear the infection. Minimum seven days treatment is required with proper dosage. If not responding to this culture sensitivity tests may be required.

I have cold and cough problem continuously. My nose always remain close. I have to continue my respiration by mouth. When I took some cold tablets I fill better but when stop taking medicine it continue again. I am suffering from this for long time. Now I irritated for this problem. Please give me some suggestion.

Hello lybrate-user By looking at your complaint, it's definite that you are having chronic sinusitis problem. The reason could be allergic, or it can be due to DNS in which condition one or both nostril remains block for most of the times. You are thereby advised to see an ENT to rule out any polyp or DNS (deviated nasal septum) In the mean time, follow these simple measures 1) steam inhalation once a day for 2-3 minutes for a wk at least. 2) instill nasoclear nasal drops (saline solution) in both nostrils before sleep (it will help clearing mucus) 3) you didn't mention if you have any family history of allergic rhinitis or sinusitis in your family. Usually it happens. 4) pls let me know if there is headache also associated with this. Hope this provides solution to your query.

My grandma 75 year old female. She has dry cough in last 7 mnth. What should she do?

Firstly there's no lifelong cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only effective against infections of throat and are of no use against cold viruses. Over-the-counter (otc) cold preparations won't cure a common cold or make it go away any sooner, and most have side effects. A saltwater gargle 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2tsp turmeric dissolved in a glass of warm water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. To help relieve nasal congestion, try saline (pure salt water) nasal drops. If you have a throat infection, or a viral cold then do reply back for medications. Being also a general physician, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary tips taking into account patient preferences.

Hi, I am 32 years old. I have bronchitis chronic. From the past 2 days. I have a wheezing severe all 24 hours include when I try to sleep. I have bad cough also. Last night, I took 2 doses of nebulizer, asthalin with distilled water but it didn't help. Then I took nasal spray and my accuhaler. It too failed. Then 2 cups of herbal tea. Failed again. I was awake all night. Same pattern today. Entire day I was breathlessness n restless. I feel suffocated in the bathroom and kitchen. I start breathing frantically when in bathroom. Today I am going to take Budecort with distilled water. Hope you can help too. I feel I am gonna skip a beta n die. Thank you.

Pulmonologist, Bareilly
Dear Lybrate user, it seems you have been prescribed Nasal Spray, Accuhaler And Nebuliser by different doctors for your Asthma / Allergy problem, over a long period of time. Maybe the doses of your medicine need adjustment or change. It would be better if you could get a CBC Test and Chest Xray and use this platform for consultation with Pulmonologist. Wishing you speedy recovery.

Sir, I had cough since last 15 days and I also taken medicine but no improvement takes place. So please help me to out this problem.

M.B.B.S, MS ENT
ENT Specialist, Guwahati
As you are from delhi do there is very high likely possibility the cough is due to pollution followed by chest infection. You need to change your antibiotics (Cetil 500) and one centrally active cough suppressant like zerotuss 10 ml thrice daily for at least 7-10dys, also take plenty of water.
