Weakness is a result of lack of physical or muscle strength. If you are feeling that extra effort is required to move your arms, legs, or other muscles, it could also be a result of any disease, illness and too much activity at one time and not taking the food to match the amount of physical effort you are doing. Sometimes low levels of minerals (electrolytes), such as potassium or sodium also result in body weakness. Other important reason could be the problems with your thyroid gland. Because your thyroid gland is responsible for regulating the way the body uses energy. A low thyroid level can cause fatigue, weakness, laziness, weight gain etc. And a high thyroid level can cause fatigue, weight loss, muscle weakness etc. Sometime because of stress you may feel disinterest in your routine works. Since the reasons for your weakness are not known, I shall advise the following - 1. Keep yourself hydrated. 2. Get extra rest for some days till you feel more energetic. 3. Avoid watching television for long hours. Indulge in relaxing activities. 4. Avoid stress and too much physical exertion. 5. Take a nutritious diet with more protein items in homemade food like soya, sprouts, dals, paneer, milk, seasonal fruits. 6. Do light physical activity, meditation and yoga. 7. Take one good multivitamin tablet after food for 7 days.

It is never advisable to take medicine right away for feeling low without consulting psychologist or psychiatrist. Many times these feeling low. Is part of life's normal ups and downs and we all have ability to bounce back. So I would suggest you to talk to a professional adviser first. If yoh would like to try something on your own then exercise is the number one mood lifter. Physical activity at least 30 minutes a day will help you change the chemical imbalance and lift your mood. You may also try simple meditation or chanting etc for 5 minutes daily. Engaging yourself in music either playing music or listening to music, reading a good book, gardening, coloring those adult color books etc will also help. Do let me know if I can help you in any way. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

Speaking of phones May cause memory loss? And please tell me the reasons and controls.

DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
There is a term called'digital amnesia' it refers to the reduced use of our memory due to over dependence on digital technology. As everything is available on finger tips today, people don't make efforts to remember numbers, appointments, names, etc. Less use of any function of the body can definitely lead to its weakness. However the damage is not permanent or irreversible. Memory exercises can help a lot. Another thing to acknowledge is that digital media create a lot of distractions in our day to day life. This again interferes with our memory by reducing our attention, making us less efficient. Some time away from phones, tabs and computers is definitely recommend on a daily basis.

Ph. D - Psychology, Professional Certified Coach

Concentration and memory both are closely related. Firstly you need to have a solid goal. And interest in what you are doing. Once you have thst following things will help you increase your concentration and memory. Concentration is a mental skill that you can develop. There are two ways to improve your concentration: first, raise your brain's natural ability to concentrate. In other words, increase your attention. Second, adjust the environment around you to make concentrating easier. To improve your concentration takes a little time and effort, but it can be worth it. In my personal experience with students. This can make noticeable improvement in a relatively short time. Ideas for daily concentration-boosting habits include: mindfulness meditation - many studies confirm that 20 minutes of meditation or more per day improves concentration and attention span. Focusing on your breathing, known as mindfulness meditation, is one of the simplest way of meditation. Start with ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes before bed. Proper sleep -i am sorry to say it. Pulling all nighter will not help with your grade. Unless you are getting sufficient restful sleep, you are not going to be as mentally focused as you could be. Brain game -. The more you use certain skills, the more they are reinforced in the brain. So it makes sense that playing concentration games and games that require you to focus will improve your concentration ability. You need to be consistent in this. Play for about 10 to 20 minutes each day. Have fun, and get the benefits but remember not to spend more than 20 minutes a day. Your goal is to improve your concentration and not the score in the game! eat healthier - your brain needs the proper nutrients to allow you to focus. Eat more vegetables and fruits and avoid consumption of junk food as much as possible. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Exercise is helpful in both reducing stress and increasing focus. At-least 20 minutes a day would go a long way. Optimize your mental state & environment in addition to building the habits described above into your daily routine, also adjust your environment and your current mental state to improve your concentration when studying. Create a study spot. Your brain loves routine. Create a place where all you do is study. An obvious choice is a secluded desk of some kind, but the trick is to make sure you only study in that spot. Studying in bed is a bad habit, for example, because your body is trained to want to sleep once you get into bed. Remove distractions. Turn off the ringer on your phone and take other steps to prevent interruptions. Don't study with the television on or with talk radio playing. Some studies have shown that soft instrumental music (no vocals) can help improve your concentration. Block background noises. If you have to study or work in an environment where it is too loud (classroom or open space) or too quiet (such as at home or at a library) you can get easily distracted by outside influences. With the right amount of background noise you can actually block out distractions and enhance your creative thinking. Use time boxes. Set a time limit when you need to study new material. For example, let's say you want to read one chapter in a book (and remember it). Decide in advance that you can have 45 minutes to read the chapter, and 15 minutes to review it. Set a timer to keep yourself honest, then pace yourself to keep within the allotted time. Stay motivated with rewards. If you see studying as burden, it's hard to concentrate. One way to stay motivated is to set up a reward system. Tell yourself you have to earn that hour of watching your favorite show later in the evening by first completing one hour of intense studying. That way, even if the material is dry, you have the reward to look forward to. Take a break every two hours. You mental energy will begin to decline after a long period of study. So every two hours or so, take a ten minute break. Walk around, eat a light snack, or just stare at the wall to relax your mind. Concentrating is the first step to learning anything new. It only makes sense that if you improve your concentration, your memory will improve also. If you have further question or need personal help feel free to contact me hope this helps wishing you very best,

My son is good with his studies but he is not focused. He cannot concentrate. He was interested in certain curricular activities like skatind, drawing, painting etc. I made him join but he did skating for 6 months and left saying that he could not win the race which the instructor use to organize in the end of the class and his frnd use to win. He is creative and good wild drawing but he got disinterested after sometime as he found it monotonous. Now he wants to join karate. please help as to how do I deal with him. What is it that can be done to increase his focus? He is 6 years old.

Hi there ~ Your 6 years 2 mo son is probably suffering from inattentive type of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). A doctor will need to know if your child does at least six of these things in order to diagnose the condition: Daydreams Shifts from task to task without finishing anything Becomes easily distracted Misses important details Makes careless mistakes in homework and tests Gets bored quickly Has trouble getting organized (for example, losing homework assignments or keeping the bedroom messy and cluttered) Doesn’t seem to listen when spoken to Is slow to understand information Has trouble following instructions There are many ways in which you can try to increase his focus, however I advise you to consult a psychiatrist or a neuropsychiatrist to find the right medication or therapeutic option for your child. Hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!

General Physician,
CONCENTRATION TIPS Here’s some tips to get into a state of deep concentration where work / or studies flow easily so that you can do well in examinations/ and or do your work well. 1) Cut Off the Noise Getting into a state of concentration can take at least fifteen minutes. If you are getting distracted every five, you can’t possibly focus entirely on your work. Request that people don’t interrupt you when working on a big project. If you are required to answer phones and drop-in’s immediately, schedule work when the office is less busy. 2) Structure Your Environment The place you work can have an impact on your ability to focus. Try to locate yourself so you are facing potential distractions such as doors, phones or windows. This way you can take a glance to assess sounds that would otherwise break your focus. 3) Clarify Objectives Know what your goal is clearly before you start. If you aren’t sure what the end result is, the confusion will make it impossible to focus. 4) Divide Blobs. If you have a large project that needs work, clearly identify a path that you will use to get started working on it. If the sequence of actions isn’t obvious, it will be difficult to concentrate. Taking a few minutes to plan not only your end result, but the order you will complete any steps, can save hours in wasted thinking. 5) Know the Rules Get clear on what the guidelines are for the task ahead. What level of quality do you need? What standards do you need to follow? What constraints are there? If the rules aren’t clear from the outset, you will slip out of concentration as you ponder them later. 6) Set a Deadline Deadlines have both advantages and disadvantages when trying to force concentration. A deadline can make it easier to forget the non-essential and speed up your working time. If you give yourself only an hour to design a logo, you will keep it simple and avoid fiddling with extravagant designs. Time limits have disadvantages when they cause you to worry about the time you have left instead of the task itself. 7) Break down Roadblocks Roadblocks occur whenever you hit a tricky problem in your work. This can happen when you run out of ideas or your focus wavers. Break down roadblocks by brainstorming or planning on a piece of paper. Writing out your thought processes can keep you focused even if you might become frustrated. 8) Isolate Yourself Become a hermit and stay away from other people if you want to get work done. Unless your work is based on other people they will only break your focus. Create a private space and refuse to talk to anyone until your work is finished. Put a sign on your door to steer away drop-ins and don’t answer your phone. 9) Healthy Body, Sharper Mind What you put into your body affects the way you concentrate. Nobody would expect peak performance if they showed up drunk to work. But if you allow yourself to get chronic sleep deprivation, overuse stimulants like caffeine or eat dense, fatty foods your concentration will suffer. Try to cut out one of your unhealthy habits for just thirty days to see if there is a difference in your energy levels. I’ve found even small steps can create dramatic changes in my ability to focus. 10) Be Patient Before I write an article, I often sit at my desk for a fifteen or twenty minutes before I put finger on the keyboard. During this time I feel a strong urge to leave or do something else. But I know that if I am patient, I’ll stumble upon an idea to write about and enter a state of flow. Without a little patience, you can’t take advantage of flow when it rushed through you. If you need strong concentration I recommend periods of 90-120 minutes. Any less than that and you will waste too much time getting started before the flow can continue. More than this is possible to sustain focus, but you will probably benefit from a quick break. These are the general guidelines for concentration, studying well or doing your job. Regards.

I suggest that you see a psychiatrist and a psychologist in the nearby hospital. Start the medication and counselling for negative thoughts. Eat a light and well balanced meal but reduce junk and sweets completely from your food. Exercise everyday for 45 min and try to get 7-8 hrs of sleep everyday. Remember that you first need to love yourself before you recognise other people's love for you. Sometimes in life, you might have obody to show you love. At that time, self love and appreciation will help you along in life. Take care.

This question is to a qualified, certified, experienced and competent psychiatrist only. I am 58 years old and Schizophrenic since 1987. I was put on various medications and I responded to them very well and hence there is a lot of relief now. Currently, I am on only one anti-psychotic viz Sizodon Forte 0-0-1 and there is tremendous relief. Of late, my body is showing showing side effects, probably due to the fact that I no longer need powerful anti-psychotics. Now, I don't have hallucinations & delusions. I have two questions here. (a) There are thought disturbances like, always preoccupied with thoughts, and get aggressive thoughts because I am not fully occupied. Is this due to the fact, that I am not working and absence of work is rust to the month Is this a positive symptom of Schizophrenia? (b) I have stammering since childhood and necessary action was taken by a speech therapist and now I speak almost fluently. Because of this, I developed inferiority complex and hence was not socializing, staying aloof from friends and relatives etc. I have this problem even now. My personal hygiene is good. Is this a negative symptom of Schizophrenia? Kindly answer to these two questions, as I can impress on my psychiatrist whom I am visiting next week. Thanks.

Good Morning ~ I appreciate your questions, and also appreciate the fact that you are taking and tolerating your medications with minimal side effects so far. I believe you need appreciation also for having asked questions on this forum. A) Though disturbances like preoccupation with certain types of thoughts and aggressive thoughts are certainly positive symptoms of schizophrenia and may be decreased by non-medication methods like yoga and pranayama or by medication augmentation of your current medications. Like you have said yourself, involving yourself in productive activity may also decrease the symptoms to the point that you may become comfortable without having aggressive thoughts. B) Stammering is a common problem and occurs in 1-2% of the general population. Most likely stammering is anxiety related and gets better over time or with less anxiety. Anxiety can be reduced with either medications or with counseling i.e. Anxiety reducing techniques. Exposing yourself to anxiety provoking situations will reduce your anxiety gradually. Counseling may be helpful in this case. Stammering is separate from schizophrenia. Look forward to hearing from you. If you need help with booking an appointment online with me on this website either text, audio or video appointment
