Which milk to give to a 11 months old baby and how many times? Which powder to be added.

Which milk to give to a 11 months old baby and how many times? Which powder to be added.
It's best time to develop taste for food. Offer him everything you eat at home ( rice/ chapati/ veggies/ dal/ egg) with some modifications according to his nutritional needs. Like, simply you can add milk in all sweet preparations instead of water and can add little ghee / paneer in all salty preparations . Offer him milk, 3-4 times in a day. Give him undiluted whole milk . You can opt for Cow's milk too. In Formula milk , Enfamil A+ , is a good preparation .

He has completed 9 months but his weight is not increasing from 5th month. His weight is still 8 kg as he was in 5th month. I am giving him diet of meshed cereals, cerelac, and some vegetables (5 meals a day ). Also to mention that he does not like mother's milk, every time he refuses that within a minute or two. Please suggest.

He has completed 9 months but his weight is not increasing from 5th month. His weight is still 8 kg as he was in 5th ...
Don't compare his wt with 5 month's wt. Now his expected wt should be about 9 kg. 8 kg is slightly at lower side. As the child grows, his wt doesn't increase with the same pace as at younger age. I am not seeing any place of milk or its product in his 5 meals. Give him ideally 2 meals but not more than 3 meals in a day consisting of varieties like ghee added haluwa, rice/ sujee kheer, khichadi, dal-roti very small pieces, vegetables well cooked in ghee/ oil, fruits etc of his taste and to develop taste. 3-4 times sweetened milk and rest breast milk 3-4 times. Probably he may be refusing mother's milk because she may be trying to feed her own milk most of time. If it is so I hope with above regime he shall like mother's feed and start gaining wt.

hello, lybrate user, usually baby should be breast fed for 6 months followed by some solid food but mother and her baby should countinue breastfeed for as long as they wish to breastfed. As solids are introduced, usually around the middle of the first year, your baby will shift his primary source of nutrition from your milk to other foods. you may introduce water free from contaminants. to care.

Improtance of Vaccination

MBBS, Diploma in Public Health ( Preventive and Social Medicine)
General Physician, Navi Mumbai

Hello, I am Dr Mangesh Chandewar. I have done post graduation diploma course in community medicines.

Today's topic is the importance of vaccination.

Vaccination is a biological molecule which is injected either through the injections, orally or through sprays. This helps us to create immunity against most of the infections.

Why vaccine is so important?

Even though we try to maintain good hygiene, cleanliness, sanitation, but still we can not prevent infection and the diseases caused by such infections. Right from the birth when delivery occurs, the baby comes in contact with the environment which is highly infected. This is like TB, Tuberculosis, which is more prevelent in India and we want to save our baby. Then right from the birth, the vaccines like BCG which is helpful in developing immunity against tuberculosis.

As per the National Immunization schedule and as per the WHO, we shoul give basic immunization, also called vaccination to the baby in order to develop immunity against the diseases.

What are the reasons to vaccinate the child?

If we do not give vaccination, it is not like the baby is going to infect but we can prevent most of the infections. If we do not give vaccination, the disease or infections can cause serious consequences rather than the vaccines. Vaccines are safer because they are being evaluated through the various phases during the clinical tria;. And also when it comes in the market.

Since they are very safe, they hardly have any side effect or consequences. and if any of the serious consequence occurs due to vaccination, that happens once in millions, so that they can immediately be taken care of. And teh action is taken according to the condition. My aim to get every baby vaccinated by birth, till the age of 5 years, all the vaccines should be appropriately given according to the proper age group. And the vaccines which are given after 5 years as and when required, once should get vaccinated.

In adults, when there is endemic or epidemic for any infections, say in 2010 swine flu was there, one should get treated as early as possible and should get vaccinated so that the disease should not be reoccured. The maximum number of people get vaccinated against infections. The community get the hard immunity. Accordingly we can prevent the disease throughout the community not only the individuals. This will help our country to fight against the diseases ans the infections.

This is all the basic immunisation and the vaccinations, I talked about. There are otther infection also, such as dog bite and other infections as well which can be vaccinated.

There are so many vaccines in the trials for so many life threatning diseases. As and when you get the chance, you can discuss it with the famly physician or any other doctor.

In order to know about the different vaccines. the appropriate age groups for the vaccines, or the side effects or any other vaccine related querry.you can contact me through Lybrate.

Hi mam my son is 1 years 6 months old. But he is not eating food well. please suggest me some recipes that baby could...
1. Try to introduce variety of foods. 2. Try to give natural foods. 3. Give food/ snack every 2 hours 4. Keep experimenting with different foods 5. Never force any food. 6. Make meal time as happy time with stories etc. 7. Create different animal bird shapes for roti / bread. 8. For example Milk can be given in any of its different forms. Like - milk, lassi, raita, milk shake, fruit shake, cheese, kheer, paneer. But some parents only like to force a child a simple cup of milk each and everyday. 9. Kids get bored of some/same foods easily. 10. Download new recipes from internet and try them out.
