Dear lybrate-user-you say you are a patient of depression- who has made the diagnosis? please see a qualified and trained psychologist at the earliest. Psychologist is an expert in diagnosis by psychological testing and counselling/psychotherapy i. E. Treatment without medicines. Psychiatrist gives medicines only. Treatment started earlier will control the problem very fast. Get proper diagnosis first followed by right treatment. Please get diagnosis confirmed first then take medicines as advised. It is possible that problem is psychological-then it will not be cured by medicines. You will need psychotherapy.

I'm exposed to substances at work that worsen my asthma what can I do to prevent this and also I want to quit my smoking habit.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You should talk to your employers about this situation and they are compelled to provide a safe work environment for you. If it is a private organization, you should be careful because not many of them care and your job may be at risk. Even so it is possible to provide an atmosphere of clear and clean air for your work environment, if you requested. But worse than all that is your smoking habit and your employers may become indignant if you continue to sabotage your health with this bad habit while demanding clean environs from the organization! This is a dangerous combination. Smoking directly attacks the respiratory apparatus and your asthma is a respiratory illness. You can ill-afford to continue smoking unless you want to kill yourself early and in a most miserable way! You must seriously take a call and quit smoking now. Here?s how you can go about it: The habit can be very difficult to halt because of the many conditions attached to smoking. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. Tobacco tar smears the lung surface and causes big patches over time to become dysfunctional. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. All the damage you incurred earlier because of the smoking can be reverted back to normal in quick time.

The slipperiness of the term stress is both an advantage and a disadvantage. It is advantageous because it is all-embracing and allows a synthesis of many aspects of life's experiences; it is disadvantageous because its referents are diverse. Stress refers both to a subject and a predicate, an event and the consequences of that event how to manage stress relaxation training relaxation skills can be very helpful in managing stress. Time management time-management methods are designed to help individuals restore a sense of balance to their lives. Problem solving problem solving is a skill that is introduced in the later stages of stress-management training. Cognitive restructuring a hallmark of cognitive-behavioral therapy is its insistence that cognition plays a central role in the stress and coping process. If you want to learn stress management. Dear, You must understand the difference between alcohol addiction and abuse. You can definitely quit alcohol in one go. Just stop it and swear not to drink again. Engage yourself in games and other engaging activities during evenings or when you feel the urge. Just a week, your habit should change. There are many other methods, which you can see through internet. The best method is what I suggested. Please try it without fail. Take care.

Dear Anurag, Welcome to lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

Very happy to know that despite your past troubles, you are studying for ias. That is great news! you no longer have to think you are very ordinary as you are preparing to make yourself extra-ordinary! not all of us become ias. All you need is good guidance. If you can afford, see a psychologist. Or, you practice all that is taught daily on astha channel 5.00 to 7.30 am. Very very effective- esp anulom-vilom and bramri and udgit. You will get miraculous results for free and without adverse effects of allopathic medicines and will gain good physical and mental health, increase in your stamina, good concentration, improved memory, etc. Not necessary, you have to be present in front of your tv at 5 am. Begin by switching on your tv just whatever time you get up and start practicing as being taught. Gradually when you regulate your sleeping time, you will be able to get up next morning at 5 and will be able to do complete workout. Best of luck for good health and happiness, and ias.

Sir, want to increase my memory.

PhD (Psychology), MSc Psychology, MS
Psychologist,
Dear, memory and mind power consists of understanding, storing and recollection of information you learn. Understanding depends on concentration. The more creative you are on doing tasks or reading, the more you understand. Storage and recollection depends on your understanding and how well you review what you have learned. Repetition and review of material learned and other tasks provides easy recollection. You can improve your concentration and total brain power with the help of green leafy vegetables, exercise, creative activities, number puzzles like sudoku etc. Hard work is the key to learning and recollection. Post a private question to me and I shall provide you more tips. Take care.

Actually this is a problem of majority of the youth in your age who are in darkness regarding their future. This doesnot mean that everything iss over,.It is the start of a new journey and most of us face such problems in the start of their carrier and the difference is that some come out early from this ssituation and many like you finds it difficult to come out.But the basic principle is to keep on trying and always think about one thing whenever you face a failure that God has planned something better for you and better luck next time.Once you are out of this situation or if I say ,the moment you have a placement in a job,all your worries will be gone.Means in nuthell that by experiencing such moments in your life you always learn something and thiss lays a foundation stone for your bright future. So keep on trying until you succeed and never loose heart because there is no space for Disheartened or laggard people in thiss harsh world.

If you also have depression, you, can relate to the gnawing, stubborn and heavy weight of guilt. Depression dampens a person’s reasoning and problem-solving functions. “This is why a person can feel unrealistically negative about himself, feel guilty or responsible for things that he might not truly believe if the depression wasn’t active.” 5 Tips to Help Chip Away at Your Guilt Of course, guilt isn’t something that simply dissolves with several quick fixes. But you can slowly chip away at your guilt. The below tips may help. 1. Move your body. Getting physical will lower cortisol, increase endorphin flow and awaken your senses.” It also helps people with depression think more clearly and feel better overall. 2. Shift your thoughts. “Feelings of guilt can set a depressed individual into a cycle of negative thinking; each thought worsening into a deeper, more hopeless frame of thinking. That’s why working on your thoughts is key. It is suggested to revise negative thoughts into positive thoughts or using positive imagery. 3. Remember guilty thoughts are not facts. It is helpful to remind yourself that your guilt is just a voice. “Once you say, ‘Oh, there’s the guilt,’ you can put some distance between yourself and the guilt.” 4. Try humor. Humor can lighten the heaviness. For many people with depression, guilt is a real and stubborn symptom. It manipulates the facts and exacerbates your mood. But while guilt can be persistent and overwhelming, it also can be managed and minimized. If you have any further queries feel free to contact. Regards, Sukanya Biswas.

Of course, psychoses may have the chances of genetic transmission. If your wife's other physical conditions are normal, the chances for her to carry and give birth to a child is also equal to that of normal women. But, if you are willing to dedicate and involve yourself in giving her the emotional, financial and physical support, and help her get proper psychiatric and other treatments periodically your chances of getting a normal baby is brighter. You can also use the help a" genetic counsellor" who can predict any disorders of the baby in the womb to some extent.

Hello doctor, I am engineering student. I am having some problems like I am behaving against myself. I am 20 years ol...
Well you are not much older than a teenager right now and these feelings are okay for your age. The only problem is that you, cannot or rather should not, act on them. You have to learn to moderate these impulses and the more you worry about them the more difficult it will be for you to control your libido. However you cannot walk around with a high libido and a somewhat lost control. Indulging in it is what can cause bother. You must go out and socialize and meet more people and mix around with both sexes. In time you will be able to understand and respect girls and not see them as mere sex objects. You will also respect your sexual feeling and know that it has to be used responsibly. Right now vigorous games and sports will channelize a lot of this energy and reduce the urge. Your focus must be on your studies but not at the neglect of other aspects of our personality. If you like you could attend sex education classes and get a more refined idea of relationships with the opposite sex and relish a wholesome contact with them. Your view right now seems too telescopically directed towards their bodies due to the hormonal influences. There is so much more to do with your life at this current moment that this will distract you no end: time and opportunity can be permanently lost. You can have great times later on after achieving good development in your all round personality. Stay focused on the right priorities. You may feel like you have no control but that is all in your head and a primed body.
