What you are going through is greaving. Loosing loved one is not easy to deal with emotionally. I am sorry for your loss. When you are greaving, your mind is continuously engaged in sad and disturbing thoughts and feeling of loss and perhaps guilt. When sadness over powers you it is difficult to feel any other feelings. Even feeling happy makes you feel guilty and uneasy. Slow but effective way to over cone sadness is to engage yourself in some neutral activities such as cleaning. Walking or readjng a light book. Once you try that for few days you may be ready for following things. There are few things I would like you to try. 1. When you feel sad. Feel the feeling of sadness fully. You may close your eyes and let that sadness flow through your mind and body. If tears flow let them flow. Cry it out. Feeling what you feel fully and totally is healing. Once you feel your sadness fully. You might feel the lightness in your heart. Feel that too and say out loud. How wonderful! and engage your mind remembering some good qualities and good times you spent with the person you are missing. 2. Regular simple breath awareness meditation also help manage your loss. 3. You may also l write daily 3 to 5 things you are grateful to every morning. These things could be as simple as having a bed to sleep and food to eat. Affirm what you write and add new thing in your list for 7 to10 days. If you are not feeling any change over next 2 weeks or if you lack motivation to initiate and maintain above activities feel free contact me and we could work together for few weeks to months to reverse your cycle and help you appreciate what you have. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

I'm so depressed because of a love failure. I'm not able to forget him, even though he have done so many brutal things to me. Something is pulling me back to forget him. I lost my studies for a year because of mental depression. And I'm always thinking of ending up my life. I can't even think of a new life. I have been spending my 6 six years in my home itself. Nowhere to go. And nothing to move on. In getting mad of thinking about my love in my home. And sometimes I'm too aggressive. What should I do? Please tell me a way to forget him.

No body is worth dying for, period. Your life is too precious and if that guy had not appreciated it, you dump him. If you had broken up and you are still thinking about him, it only means that you loved this boy very much. I hope you were not the one to break up with him. If it was, then you have played a game and now you have regrets. The clock cannot be turned back again, I suppose. The trouble is that you want to attempted suicide over this love affair. This means that you might have entered into a symbiosis and him leaving has become life-threatening. That itself might be the reason for the breakup. Boys want a relationship where independence is respected and there is no clingy behavior. You have got to look into this aspect of your personality. Are you becoming too dependent on the boy and therefore demanding? This is not a welcome feature for a boy to want to maintain this relationship. You must develop yourself to become independent and responsible. Maintain respectful distance. There are three important developments in an individual that creates an autonomous personality: intimacy, awareness, and spontaneity. Of these, awareness is of great importance: it will help you know yourself internally and to also make you conscious of other people around you. This person is able to meet her needs and that of the other in a balanced manner. You must learn to do this soon. If you resolve the symbiosis, you will do really well. Meet with a counselor and describe your longings, needs and wants, openly. Take your parents along and let them describe your entire life till now and the counselor will get an understanding of your plight. Remove everything that is a reminder of this boy in the meantime and start working on your development. Life is too precious and no one is worth dying for. Demonstrate how you will look after yourself and work on doing that. Learn independence skills and do a personality development course too. By sitting at home you will brood and think of this boy more. So get out and socialize and that is how you are going to meet other boys, and make a new relationships: this time do not hurry and learn lessons from the past.

I am very absent minded, during study time peculiar types of irrelevant thoughts come around. Suggest me how to be concentrated?

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. If the task is boring, it is natural that that person will sleep or feel sleepy. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Please search internet for" effective learning" techniques or you may consult a psychologist. Take care.

Dear Lybrate user, Welcome to Lybrate. Nervousness means stress and related anxiety. Anxiety is fear about unknown happening or fear about future. Anxiety about things which we do not know or anxiety about things we are not experienced are common. Stress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our physical or mental equilibrium. In other words, it's an omnipresent part of life. A stressful event can trigger the “fight-or-flight” response, causing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to surge through the body. Your lazyness and memory deficiency could be due to anxiety disorder. Please provide me more information. I need to assess your mental health condition. Take care.

Hi there ~ not being able to sleep at night may be due to many reasons and as you list out it may be due to excessive anxiety or stress and your poor energy may also related to the anxiety disorder. I hope you consult a psychiatrist to get a right medication for sleep prescribed. There are ways in which you can control or cope with anxiety and thus get your sleep to become normal. Please however consult a psychologist for counseling and a neuropsychiatrist for medications.

Hi, Previously I was addicted of smoking but now I smoke One cigarette in a week. So Will it be still harmful?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Yes even one will be harmful and stop it. Best age to stop smoking is before 40, In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

Simple answer no! homeopathy or for that matter any other form of treatment (ayurveda, unani) does not have 100% cure for depression. Your dose of cipralex is too low! with proper medicine doses & certain lifestyle modifications, you can get better for sure! good luck.

I want to ask about weed. On internet I have seen many health benefits of weed and even doctors also prescript weed as smoke. Is weed better than tobacco?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Weed is addictive and is as bad as nicotine. Weed addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

My son is a 17 years slim boy but he behaving like a girl. But he is physically fit. He has no other problems.
Nothing to worry sir. Whether it is male or female, we generally call them a child. It has a practical implication. Your son is just transforming from his childhood-boyhood-adoloscent-adult. In some children the transformation may be slow because of lack of role models of their same-role parent or significant others or spending more time with members of opposite sex. Hormonal influences may play a little role here. By the time he becomes a college student, there may sex-appropriate behaviours develop. You can deliberatetly induce him to make changes in his mannerisms without hurting him.

That might be frustrating for you. You might not be able to live a life of your choice and not accomplished what you wanted to. However, allopathic treatment can only offer symptomatic relief with some side effects of the medicines but no long term resolution. Alternative treatment like homeopathy and ayurveda offer gentle and holistic treatment which is safer and remove the problem from its roots. Counselling is another such intervention which has helped many individuals suffering from anxiety and sleep issues by teaching them practical tips and techniques to sleep naturally and also learn how to manage stress and tension better without losing your equilibrium. You will be able to modify the unhealthy and irrational thoughts due to which you feel anxious and replace them with healthy and rational thoughts and behaviours which will make you feel confident and liberated from within to take on tasks which caused anxiety before. Exercise every day and do deep breathing and pranaymas for calming down and feel functional.
