Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Ankle stretching. Ankle strengthening exercises. Avoid squatting. Quadriceps exercises. Core strenthening exercises. Stretch calves get a custom made insole. Hams stretching. Sports taping. Hot fomentation.

1. Start with Physiotherapy treatment. 2. Learn spinal exercises. 3. Use lumber spine belt. 4. Don't lift heavy things. 5. Don't do forward bending. 6. Wear sports shoes. 7. Correct your posture. 8. Do hot fermentation twice a day. 9. Apply volini cream before sleeping. 10. Take calcium, vitamin D 3 and Methylcobalmine supplement for one month minimum.

My father had an open reduction internal fixation of greater trochanter fracture surgery before 1 yr. Is it necessary to remove the plates and screws from the fracture. My father is now 53 of age.

Hi for your back pain you can use lumber belt while walking, start hamstring streatching, core strengthning exercises, back isometric exercises this will improve your back strength. Do let me know if you feel any problem in this.

I am 33 yrs old male I have partial tear of anterior cruciate ligament, joint effusion noted, mucoid degeneration /tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus. Is there any treatment without surgery.

How does it effect u, partial tear, if it less then grade 2, then it can be left alone, rather the medial meniscus tear which you have is more problematic, if you can near the pain, and your knee doesn't lock while standing from sitting. Medical treatment can be sought, otherwise go for surgery.

take tab. asthalin-2 once a day for asthma. tab. dolo 500 mg sos for pain. syp. brozedax 10 ml twice a day for cough. avoid cold things. take medicines for 5 days. if symptoms persist do tests cbc. chest x-ray. and consult again.

You should avoid painful use of knee until your acl is repaired. You would need arthroscopic knee surgery. It is a very safe procedure in our hands with uniformly good results. We have very good well equipped center in delhi. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Don? t ignore it lest it become beginning of a bigger problem.

Hi, I am a hypo thyroid patient. Struggling to lose weight from quite sometime, not getting results. I can not do heavy workouts or aerobics bcz of knee ligament injury in last year. OSTEOPOROSIS : PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Case 1 : A 65yr old women develops severe pain in the lower back while trying to lift her grandson from the floor. She was then rushed to the hospital and on investigating was found to have osteoporotic collapse of lumbar vetrebrae.

Case 2 : A 72 yr old female sustained a small twisting jerk while walking over the uneven surface and developed sharp pain in the hip region followed by difficulty in walking and when examined was found to have fracture in the hip.

These cases are just to exemplify that Osteoporosis may not cause any apparent symptoms. Patients may not know they have osteoporosis until they break (fracture) a bone.

Osteoporosis is defined as a systemic skeletal disease characterised by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture. Although the diagnosis of the disease relies on the quantitative assessment of bone mineral density, which is a major determinant of bone strength, the clinical significance of osteoporosis lies in the fractures that arise.

Common sites for osteoporotic fracture are the spine, hip, distal forearm and proximal humerus. The remaining lifetime probability in women, at menopause, of a fracture at any one of these sites exceeds that of breast cancer.

Osteoporotic fractures are a major cause of morbidity in the population. Hip fractures cause acute pain and loss of function, and nearly always lead to hospitalisation. Recovery is slow, and rehabilitation is often incomplete, with many patients permanently institutionalised in nursing homes. Vertebral fractures may cause acute pain and loss of function but may also occur without serious symptoms. Vertebral fractures often recur, however, and the consequent disability increases with the number of fractures. Distal radial fractures also lead to acute pain and loss of function, but functional recovery is usually good or excellent.

A dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) scan can be used as a screening test for osteopenia (bone loss that precedes osteoporosis). This test measures bone density in the hip, wrist and spine and is more precise than an X-ray.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends the following groups of people should have Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) scans to screen for osteoporosis:

All women age 65 and older

All postmenopausal women under age 65 who have risk factors for osteoporosis

Postmenopausal women with fractures

Women with a medical condition associated with osteoporosis

How Is Osteoporosis Treated and Prevented?

There is no current cure for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis treatment involves stopping further bone loss, and strengthening bones that show signs of weakness. Prevention of osteoporosis is key.

Prevention and Treatment:

1. Exercise : Exercise is important in helping improve muscle strength and balance. Consult your doctor for the type and duration of exercise that is right for you

It is also important to consider other medical problems that may also be present (heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure) before starting any exercise program.

2. Quit Smoking and Curtail Alcohol

3. Calcium Supplements

4. Calcium-Fortified Foods

5. Vitamin D


Treatment: Medications

There are several types of medications used to treat osteoporosis.

Antiresorptive drugs

Menopausal estrogen hormone therapy.

Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs).

Anabolic drugs: these are the only drugs that actually build bone mass. Teriparatide, a form of parathyroid hormone, is one example of this type of drug

These are generalised symptoms & more likely to be acid peptic disease. However I would suggest you to rule cardiac cause first by undergoing an ecg, echocardiogram.

Hi Lybrate user, it can be muscle spasm as you need strengthening and stretching exercises for shoulder.. consult orthopedic, he suggest muscle relaxant tablets followed by Physiotherapy...do hot water fomentation for 15 minutes per every 2 hours

Hello dear polyarthralgia due to deficiency of vitamin d3 is rare but it's now going to be common due to less sun exposure and less physical workout. As you know about your problem you must take nutritional diet full of vegetables, fruits, milk, fresh fruit juice s and add orange, lemon, amla etc. Start with light painfree all joint exercises with in range. Avoid jerky movements, heavy workout or heavy weight lifting. Walking smooth and slowly. After routein set for exs. Increase ex programme by strengthens the muscles.

Piriformis stretch 1. Lie on your back. 2. Cross your left leg over your right so that your left ankle rests on your right knee. 3. Use your hands to grab hold of your left knee and pull it gently toward the opposite shoulder. 4. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds. 5. Relax, and then repeat with the other leg. 6. Repeat this cycle 2 to 4 times.

Hello lybrate-user, generally shoulder pain is secondary to some muscle spasm or a ligament sprain of associated with history of trauma. I would recommend shoulder range of motion exercises and pendulum exercises along with hot pack fomentation. Thank you.
